  1. P. S. I'm having the same problem you are. I think my body is conspiring against me. I'm eating 1/10th what I used to eat in terms of the volume of food and the type of foods I'm eating now are less sugar, less fats. SOMETHINGS GOTTA GIVE SOONER OR LATER. I keep telling myself that there's these little fat people inside me holding onto all that fat for their dear lives. I am almost 6 weeks out and managed to lose 18lbs. I am 220 was 238 so very discouraging. I didn't expect to have to go on the Atkins diet which seems to be the concensus here. I know can lose weight on Atkins but I cant keep that kind of eating style up for life. It's too restrictive. I thought eating so much less would mean I am taking in 1/10th the calories I used to and so I would HAVE to lose weight. Not happening to this chubby cherub. Oh well, I am not hungry and food doesn't have the appeal it used to for me so it's a start. I take Prevacid daily but still feel hungry so not sure why that is either. Reading all these posts is helpful though. Just wanted you to know you are not alone in this. I decided I won't let those little fat people inside me get me down. Good Luck and Skinny On! Don't get sad, don't get mad :blushing:, get glad you lost more than you could have without the surgery :crying:!
  2. hi, i was sleeved on 1/29. i know they said you'll feel tired but for how long does this tiredness last? i havent been exercising since just getting through the day is a challenge now so im not losing as much as i could. then, when i finally go to bed it is difficult to sleep soundly. i take my Vitamins daily, antacid daily. ive lost about 10 lbs so far. any help or support you can offer would be most appreciated. tired in connecticut
  3. well i can't wait to get my energy back. i'm a single mom and life has to go on. hopefully by late spring ill get my "spring" back.
  4. Thanks for the replies. I was feeling guilty about being tired but now I don't. I just thought something was wrong when I get so tired from just my daily activities. I went to mall today to return some items. I wanted to look around some more but just couldn't do it. Even the saleslady asked me if I was okay. That told me it was time to go. I am grateful being tired is my only problem considering what could go wrong. Wishing you both all the best, maggie
  5. Looking for a VSG surgeon. Trying to find out who others recommend based on their own personal experiences with them. I am self pay and want to get value for my dollar without compromising my safety. thanks and happy new year to all
  6. If you've had VSG with Dr. Joya, can you share your personal experiences with me? I am considering going with him for VSG and wondered how he is. Happy New Year!
  7. Hi and thanks for the reply. someone told me about dr pleatman earlier perhaps it was you but not sure. i've committed to having dr aceves do the VSG in mexicali almater hospital. he seems more than qualified and comes with good recommendations from numerous people on this and OH sites. i'm nervous about going there by myself but his price was very reasonable -- 8750 -- if i had it done in January so i jumped on it. the air fair wasn't much and everything else was included. he performs it in hospital and you stay in the hospital 3 days afterward for vsg. so between his credentials, his reviews and the price i went for it. pls wish me luck. nervous wreck that i am.
  8. Thanks everyone for making me feel so at ease. My only fear now is I won't want to come back to this frigid weather in the northeast once in Mexicali.
  9. :crying: :crying: Having VSG with Aceves on 1/29 and headed there by myself :svengo:. I see others going every other week in January but this one. Any holdouts please speak up????
  10. amy and dreamer, were either of you planning on going there alone by any chance?
  11. ok well i wish you luck getting your tax check and hope to see you there. let me know if your plans change.
  12. thanks so much. this forum is a life saver for me. i dont really share this journey outside of this forum. i feel like people judge to damn much in this world but on here i feel they understand. :crying:
  13. thank you all for all the replies. i made the choice i made not just based on the cost. surgeon credentials and experience also factored in. i do believe non us surgeons can do as good a job if not better than us surgeons. just not sure about travelling to Mexico alone but thats life... health and happiness, maggie
  14. i went with aceves in mexico and surgery scheduled for 1/29 to take advantage of special pricing. wasnt really looking to go so soon but self pay do what we have to... congrats on your surgery!!
  15. One more thought... I would think for Medicare to pay you need to go through some kind of authorization process similar to most other insurances. Can you try to get authorization for the surgery to see what they say?
  16. Is it possible to try billing the preop and surgery to Medicare to see what they pay or if they pay? If they don't then you are self pay???? Just a thought...
  17. So is your surgery on 1/27? i will b there on 1/28 for preop and mayb can look you up while there???? :crying:

    Mexico surgery planning

i have sprint and just checked today. they added international calling to my plan for no charge BUT... Texting doesnt work internationally on sprint yet and voice costs 1.69/min  so i won't be doing much talking on my cell once i get there. Data was $2/mb  so won't b surfing the net on my cell much while there either. at least i can use it in an emergency which is all i really need to feel safe. Of course, ill have to test it out once i get there. didnt seem to be an option to "buy down" the price perhaps because of the plan i already have. Not sure what the price diff would be using one of them thar phoney cards you mentioned. I'll have to check.
  19. HI and happy new year! I am wondering if you could share your experience with dr. joya as I am considering VSG with dr. joya. thanks and hope you are doing well
  20. Thank you Marci so much. I emailed them for now. Do they accomodate out of state patients for the preop work do you know? Its a really good price. Up in NE where I am I'm being quoted 20,000 for the sleeve surgery -- twice the price!!!
  21. Thank you. I will look him up and Happy New Year!
