Really worried...
Robbiehage replied to TiffanyIsMajor's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it helps, I will be 4 weeks out on Wednesday and I will admit to having a little remorse the first few days after surgery. I hated that I just couldn't control myself and had to chop a perfectly good stomach! I was sitting in a hotel room only able to take the TINIEST sips of water thinking "What in the heck have I done?" By the beginning of my second week I was WAY better. Week 4 and I am thrilled, I have absolutely no problems with my sleeve, even with 85% missing my stomach is still ready to roll! I eat all of my protein already, I can eat almost an entire chicken breast with no problems at all and my surgeon does not have you blenderize anything, he just says to chew thoroughly. I can take pretty normal sized drinks of water too. It is amazing how quickly your body can repair itself! So while I am sorry that I had to have the surgery I am also thrilled that I did. All my best to all of you, good luck! -
You are absolutely right!

I get the huge hiccups definitely not the dainty ones. With the burping you know how the sleeve is kind of shaped like a bananna? When I eat it feels like there is a bunch of air way down at the bottom of the sleeve and like the food piles up on that air and then the air has to sift all the way up to the top. No pain, just a weird feeling. I also sometimes feel like someone is going to hear some of the wild rumbling my stomach makes now! 85% of it is gone and now it is crazy noisy!

Are you afraid that you are trying to sabotage yourself? Before I was sleeved when I would get stressed and just start pounding the food I kept wondering why I was doing that to myself. You are almost a year out and what a year that has been for your body. Is it possible that your mind is just kind of trying to play catch up? Or maybe I am just way off track! I wish you the best of luck and will be praying for you, I did not realize you were planning a pregnancy, how exciting!!

50 lbs? How fun!

I agree about the one week posts, that first week can be tough and these posts are really full of promise especially for someone who may be feeling down. Congratulations Kelly and I will be praying for you Stcyt!

Like about everyone else, I cruised the boards like crazy! I think being obsessed with gaining information was definitely a good thing! Sometimes I was nervous sometimes excited and sometimes kind of shocked that it was really happening. I will say that once I got to Kansas 3 days before surgery I was strangely calm. I always pictured myself being a nervous wreck and shaking the day of surgery, but I didn't AT ALL. I had done the research so I was confident. Hope you enjoy as fantastic of an experience as I did. Congratulations.

Heartwrenching story Stoongal, so sorry to hear it. I will pray for your sister and that other members accept and respect your candor. -
I will be praying for you. My husband was definitely not thrilled about this surgery but he changed, he has been amazing, I am sure yours will come around too!

I will be 3 weeks out this Wednesday and am DIEING for some coffee! My nutritionist said no more caffeine because it could set me up for ulcers in my staple line. I am allowed 2 cups per day of decaf tea or coffee after the 4th week. Anyone else supposed to stay away from caffeine due to ulcers? Thanks!

5 months post-op and my thoughts
Robbiehage replied to InternetAngel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the reminder that the sleeve is just a tool, at not quite 3 weeks out I do slip in to the "miracle" way of thinking! I realize that you are looking for tips to get back at it and unfortunately I do not have any for you. However, I do want to tell you that I am currently a size 26 and just thinking that I might be a size 18 in 5 months makes me want to do cartwheels! Someone on here will be able to give you some useful advice to get you back into the losing phase but I hope you will step back and take a look at the big picture and enjoy the accomplishments you have already made! Congratulations and good luck! -

Wonderful post! Just want to add that spring is such a wonderful time to be newly sleeved, it feels good to want to be outside again! -
I am so happy for you Kathy, you will not even believe how much better you will feel in a week.

What a great idea!

BJean, you are right about the straw it is not permitted after the sleeve. My surgeon required a 2day pre-op diet but I did 10 days (figured it couldn't hurt) I lost 6lbs during that time. I had very little pain and or discomfort with my sleeve. I could not have had a smoother experience. I only hit my morphine pump twice and that was because the nurse asked me to before I walked for the first two times. I have taken no pain meds or tylenol since then. I didn't even have the gas pain which surprised me because I did experience gas pain under my shoulder when I had a caesarean years ago, it really bugged but it was absorbed by my body within a few days. I researched the sleeve like crazy so I was very surprised that two days after surgery I was questioning my decision and feeling a bit blue. I am so happy to say that I am totally over that and am so far thrilled with my sleeve. I wish you the best with your surgery.

I was sleeved March, 24 and everything has been going very well. I sometimes eat too much and am uncomfortable for 15-20 mins and I used to love eggs and cottage cheese and now am a little grossed out by them. I am really pleased with my sleeve and hope everyone else is too!

Congratulations, feel better soon! -
Aghhh! How frustrating this must be for you! I pray you were able to get back inside and get your sleeve! Hope to hear from you soon.

My surgeon had me take my blood pressure meds the day of surgery with a small sip of water, I do not remember taking them the one day that I was in the hospital but he had me on them my first day home. They were not cut or crushed but they are medium to small.
-
I think I can help with the sip, sip sip! I had my surgery two weeks ago today, it is very important to remain hydrated but the swelling in your pouch only allows for truly tiny sips. Therefore to get the proper amount of water in you feel that you are constantly sipping. To be honest I was DEVASTATED the day after I got out of the hospital, you have all of that anesthesia in you and you are uncomfortable and sipping that water it is easy to forget that you will be able to take a fairly normal drink in no time at all. I just realized today that I can drink consecutive drinks again. You know tip it back and take like 4-5 gulps right in a row. Still not as big of a mouthful as before but HUGE compared to before.

The PB2 with chocolate really helped me get my protein shakes down for the first week. Oregondaisy is right though, it is gritty. I had my surgery in Kansas and I bought it in the health food section of Hy-Vee Grocery Store while I was there. I have not tried any of the flavored syrups.

We all need to feel free to discuss any and all aspects of the vertical sleeve on this site. It is not ok for people to try to quiet others. -
I am two weeks out today, my surgeon doesn't do mushies and has you eating protein at all 3 meals by day 11. I have had no pain, nausea, sliming or heartburn. My stomach was like a tank before they removed 85% of it and apparently it still is! I have yet to cease being hungry, my biggest problem is thinking I can eat more than I can. I get full fairly quickly and it's a little shocking how little you can eat without discomfort at this point. I got a regular Arby's Roast Beef yesterday, threw away the bun and without thinking I ate just a little over half of the meat. It went down fine but whew I was uncomfortable for probably 15-20 minutes afterward. Leave it to me to still be able to pig out 2 weeks out! So far I am very happy with my decision to get sleeved. Pray that the same is true for all of you.

I had my surgery Wednesday, I weighed 230 going in and 240 coming out! I was dehydrated when I went in so they ran tons of fluids through my IV.
