Long Time Sleevers
rcarter76 replied to Boredoncemore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am SOOOO jealous mountain lover, I wish I could eat anything. I am still supposed to be on pretty much Clear liquids for 2 more weeks. On the 28th I go on mushies for still three more weeks, so the day I can blend anything I will be happy. Does your doc allow you to eat sausage and gravy? Just wondering. It is crazy how much all of our post op diets differ! Congrats on your loss so far, I hope to be in the 220's soon! -
Amazing, I hope I can follow your lead!

OK! Thanks everyone for your concern! I am getting better already, I saw my surgeon today, and he prescribed me some type of oral steroid and I ALREADY feel better. It is like a 6 day pack, so Sunday I should be good as new. Whew, what a pain, but it will all be worth it one day!

Did anyone else have the pain ball with a catheter? I took it out the day after I was released from the hospital, and am having a reaction. I called the nurses station and my surgeon and everyone told me I am just allergic and it would be fine in 3-5 days. But I am having blistering like I was burned, in the exact places the medication was attached and in a spiral where the tube was wrapped. I think I would be in a much better place if I wasn't dealing with this, so I am wondering if anyone else dealt with this, had issues or not, and any recommendations to getting rid of it so I can focus on starting to walk more (right now wearing pants hurts it) outside etc. Thanks!

I have some questions. I am so excited i made it through the surgery, but I am wondering if anyone else shares the experiences I am having. The pain is pretty bad. I am doing the walking, but the gas doesn't want to come out (either end), I know it sounds gross, but it feels like knives in my chest, shoulders and tummy. I use a heating pad as well, but it still hurts. I may be acting like a big baby too, but the soreness is pretty intense as well. How long after surgery did everyone feel better? How many days until I feel like I can stand straight up instead of favoring my tummy and leaning over while walking? I am on liquid Lortab and it helps with the soreness, but not the gas. I constantly feel as if I need to hiccup, and it hurts. Any suggestions, thoughts or shared experiences would be great. I also wanted to share that I am not super hungry, but don't feel satisfied with just the Protein shakes and popsicles etc, too sweet. I am going to try some Soup and see if that helps. I am worried that I am still going to be hungry and this isn't going to work for me like all of you. Am I just overthinking everything and did anyone else have this sleeve paranoia afterwards? I lost 14 lbs pre-op and am waiting to weigh in for another week since they told me to due to all the liquids etc in the IV, that I may not go down for a while and don't want it to discourage me.

I just heard back from his assistant as I paged this AM, and am headed to see him at 10am! Thank god, I am hoping for a shot to make me better!

OK gals, I am now officially sick of this! I have MORE blisters and the darn thing is itching even with tons of benadryl and it is spreading all over my stomach! I paged the doctor again today and hoping a steroid shot or something can help. This is ridiculous, and I am getting super frustrated!

Hello everyone, I love my salads, all kinds, even when I was overeating daily, I always had a salad! LOL Anyway, I know this kind of ruffage can be hard on our new sleeves and I was wondering if anyone eats them now and how often and how long after surgery they were able to? Happy Monday!
-
Good to know! I hope I can eat them 2-4 a week! How long after going to real food do you think it is possible? Or did you have to wait due to special circumstances?

Theory about leaks at 2 weeks

Of course, I am super new too and only one week out but learning! I am excited for you lee! -
feeling hungry today... not possible!
rcarter76 replied to hope4204's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am the same way, I love food and always will, and that is why the sleeve is perfect for me, for portion control. I watch the food network and can't wait to try recipes (the healthy ones). I go back to my nutritionist Friday and get the go ahead to get on mushies, so I am very excited! The most substantial thing I have had so far is runny grits and they are delicious! We can do it, it is worth it, when we start eating again it will feel like this was a brief moment in time. Just take it one day at a time, it is the only way I have made it this past week. Today is my one week surgaversery and I can't believe I have lost 11 lbs in one week! I hope it keeps up! -
Theory about leaks at 2 weeks

I had an upper GI before they even allowed me to drink water day after surgery, it showed potential leaks and or problems. That is standard from my surgeon. IT was nasty, but I got to see my sleeve on screen, super small! -
At work last fall, feeling my tight clothes and putting a fake smile on for customers. I hope my face thins out soon!

So round in the middle, it is strange to see yourself as others do.

That is exactly what mine was! I wish I hadn't had it, but I am sure I have no idea what kind of pain I would have been in without it!
-
Thanks gals! It is a bit better this AM, but on Monday if it is still there, I will be headed to the doc! I am sure the liquid Lortab helps the discomfort!
-
Thanks Tracy and Norma! I was prescribed Zegarin and have not taken it since I couldn't keep down meds (the taste and texture made me sick). But have since been able to start my Vitamins since I am a week out now and feeling much more "normal". I will start my antacid meds prescribed today! And as for the grits, and other meal ideas those are SO helpful. I really want to stay put with my liquids but need the variety. Thanks girls! Rachel

Judy,
What day did you say you were sleeved? I think that is amazing you can walk so far already, i am not able to since I am fighting a reaction to my pain ball.
How much have you lost since surgery and are you still trying crackers? Are you into mushies yet?

The morning of my surgery at my heaviest. You don't realize how you look until you see photos...

Hey all. Thanks for all the comments and posts. I know everyone is different and every doctor is different. I start on full liquids in a couple days and then mushies. I am not sure how they differ but I see my nutritionist later this week. Where do runny grits fall in? Are they liquids or mushies? Just want to be sure to protect my sleeve and not damage the healing. Will grits get stuck like some of you have suggested if they are super runny in my staples?

Thanks for the quick reply. So next week, what is the difference between clear liquid and then full liquid diet? What foods are you moving into? Would love to know. Am actually feeling a bit hungry, not like I want to eat a burger, but just that I need more sustenance. Let me know what and when and how you plan to do this. I am very interested. R

Did your instructions say to stay on liquid for a few weeks and you are just doing what you think feels best? Will it be bad if I try some crackers to settle my stomach? Congrats on such a speedy recovery!
