Hello all. I am getting excited and nervous. My Dr. has you go through 3 months of appointments with a Dietician and Exercise Physiologist. I have my last appointment on Jan. 19, 2010. Once these are finished they will submit all info to insurance for approval. I am excited. i am hoping surgery will be in February sometime. My family is supportive but scared. It is not a cheap procedure and I need and want to make this work.

I am so frustrated with my mother continuing to tell me that I can lose weight without surgery if I just get up and move. My job is physical and I am usually totally exhausted after a long 12 hour shift. I have been overweight for 14 years now. My mother was overweight for most of my childhood, and struggled with one diet or another and then one day it started to change for her. I am not my mother. I get so frustrated with people especially parents telling me I shouldn't have to get surgery to lose weight. What else am I supposed to do?

Thank you. I believe its not the actual surgery that is their fear. I am their youngest. My mom and I are both RNs by profession and she has great knowledge of procedure, I think their concern is the complications she suffered with her hemicolectomy might happen to me. I told her this is a lap procedure, but she is still anxious. They are not going to try and talk me out of it, but just really want me to research, and Pray to come up with the right answer. Thank you

It is still my decision and one I am making with guidance from God in prayer and informed professionals.

I know my mom loves me and wants whats best for me. My mom is my best friend and she will be my ride. She is very supportive and also concerned because she has had complications from her surgeries (not bariatric surgeries) in the past. So her baby going under the knife voluntarily is a little nerve racking for her. I am a talker and okay with people knowing what I am thinking. I prefer to have others understand and know what my decision is, than to feel like I am hiding it.

I am wondering if there are any side effects to the surgery. Congrats on your wt. loss. As far as the shopping addiction I totally understand. Good Luck. Just buy a few things for each size, sounds like you are losing too fast to get a good wardrobe for long term right now. And use consignment store to recoup some money after you outgrow, unless your Dr. office has a clothing exchange.

So I am in the process of getting approved for bariatric surgery. The Doctors I use do not expect you to make a decision on which surgery until closer to time. I was looking into the Band, but I have a VP shunt and according to MD it increases my chance of infection to one or both appliances to have both and has reccommended I look into the sleeve gastrectomy. I am doing research and like what I see, but have had a general surgeon tell me not to do it. I would like to hear from people who have had a postive and negative experiences. I am a single mom, ICU RN, and BSN student. My life is very important. I want to be a role model for my childre and patients.
