  1. hello! It's nice to hear from someone from PA. I got my sleeve on January 15th and so far I love it!!! I lost 16 lbs pre-op, and since then I am down an additional 21 lbs :D When i was in mexico at the clinic there was a mother - daughter from the U.S. who had been banded a year before and both were back to get VSG's because of band erosion and tilting. We went through this woman Melanie who had the VSG 9 months ago and lost 80 lbs. She is now a co-ordinator for the clinic and her company is called weight loss forever (www.weightlossforever.ca) She is starting a support group here in Prince Albert. The first meeting is wednesday february 17th at the library. If you can you should consider coming :) You can e-mail me at lauren_mjj14@hotmail.com anytime you want.

  5. Hey! I am scheduled with dr. almanzo on january 15th :thumbup1: The company I am going through is called Weight Loss Forever and they have a bit of information about the clinic on their website, Weight Loss Forever I haven't been there yet but Stoongal here on the boards has and she can tell you everything you need to know, she has really helped me!! In terms of what to bring, I am bringing loose/baggy clothes, a heating pad, some gas x strips(because there are none in mexico), some immodium, polysporin, and i think thats it, oh and a list of spanish words(and the translation) that the nurses use because in the hospital some do not speak english. Good luck on your surgery

    carbs after wls

hey thanks everyone for your quick replies so i was having kind of a dumb day yesterday and what sparked my post is that i bought the bottled isopure at wal mart, however i didnt realize that they stock the carb, high cal version AND the low carb(60 gr a bottle) and low carb (0 a bottle) as well! so i got home and freaked out because i thought oh great thats my entire carbs for a day, but alas i got some sleep and today discovered the 2 different versions, so all is well again haha! I now can totally see staying under 30 carbs as being easy. thanks for helping me in my time of stupidity lol

its not that im really eating anything very carb filled, its just i was doing some investigating in to protein drinks and such and the isporue ready to drink ive been buying at wal mart i just realized has 33 carbs :biggrin0: and my mom and i are looking in to getting baby food for the pureed stage(for days when were on the go lol) and realized that we will have to go searching for low carb. anyway it was just a moment of panic but once i create a menu plan for myself ill be good to go

  11. hi everyone.... my mom and i booked our surgeries and put a deposit down this week (surgery date is jan 15) but recently there have been a lot of posts about people getting infections from this clinic :S i really want this surgery and i cant back out since we already put our deposit down but im scared i work at a walk in clinic and my mom used to work at a hospital so we both know how to do dressing changes on wounds and i plan on bringing doctors gloves and basic materials for changing dressings as well as basic first aid with me and insist that the nurses wear the gloves when doing anything with our wounds...will this be good enough? i also read that there was a package of stitches that were compromised do you think they will have that fixed by january? im getting really freaked out! any advice anyone has got would be good thanks :sneaky2: im freaking out and just need someone to calm me down lol
  12. mnb, do you say that because you had a bad experience?

    I have a date :d

hi everyone :sneaky2: so my mom and i officially put down our deposits for the surgery with dr. almanzo...but recently there have been a lot of posts about people getting bad infections...im starting to get really freaked out :S i work at a walk - in clinic, and my mom used to work at a hospital so both of us know how to change dressings and such so i plan on bringing a box of doctors gloves, basic first aid kit and basic materials to change dressings to help prevent infections...is there anything else i should bring? am i making a mistake by going to this doctor? before this outbreak of infections i only heard good things about him but now i am scared :S

    I have a date :d

it really is a reality now!! I am 18 and when i told a few of my closest friends that this is what is what i wanted to do i dont think they really believed it would happen but now that i have a date they realize how serious i am :biggrin0: i am so looking forward to having this surgery so i dont have to waste any more years overweight and unhappy
  16. Hi all! My name is Lauren and I am brand new to the forum. My mom and I have decided to get the sleeve together, hopefully in December :confused1: However i still have a few more questions, if anyone can answer them i would appreciate it :001_tt1: 1. Did you find it hard to eat slower and chew more when you go to solid foods? I worry I won't be able to slow myself down 2. for people who have had their sleeve for over a year or so, is daily life harder? how is it to go out? 3. has anyone stalled, and what have you done about it? 4. was recovery difficult, and how soon did you return to work? I know I have more I just can't think of anymore at the moment haha. I am 18 and have been overweight my whole life, i have tried diet after diet and nothing works, ill lose weight then gain it back and then some. I am really looking forward to being able to have a life-long "tool" to help me any advice from the "pros" would be awesome, thanks
  17. That would be awesome :biggrin0: When are is your surgery again? my mom and i are trying to book between january 5th and 15th
  18. You literally took all the words right out of my mouth!! I could not have said it better
  19. thanks everyone  I was getting really discouraged but I feel better now!
  20. I have started eating better, trying to keep my calories close to 1000 a day However i have yet to lose any weight and am feeling very discouraged! I now weigh 280, once I am sleeved can I realistically hope to have a goal weight of 150? Hopefully I will have lost some before I get sleeved but I really want to be in the "normal" weight range for my age and height eventually.
  21. Hey! Thanks to everyone who replied! My surgery isn't schedule yet, but my mom and I are planning for the first week or so in january I have decided to cut out all bad foods, and I am trying to limit my carb intake. I have bought Isopure Plus RTD from Walmart and I actually really like them I have also bought RTD Atkins shakes as well. Today I have scrambled eggs with some cheese on a bun, and an atkins shake, what to do for dinner I am not sure yet haha I am actually really surprised by how full i get with these Protein drinks! I never would have thought that could be Dr. Almanzo TJ,Mexico - January 2010
  22. ya, i may not have to do a pre-op diet but i would like too, just because i would like to prove to myself that i can follow the guidelines and to prepare myself for post op. Also, i know that doing a pre op diet decreases the size of your liver, which helps in preventing a complication :001_smile:
  23. I was wondering how long people did their pre-op diet for? And when doing it, do you only drink protien drinks and other liquids, no solids? was anyone hungry?
  24. Hey! Ya my mom and I will probably be going the first or second week in january to TJ, Mexico Posting my questions here has really calmed me down! I am nervous, but I now that although my life will never be the same after this, I am excited for what it can be, what i have been denied or too scared to pursue because of my weight. It is really great to have another canadian girl we can help each other through this!
  25. Thanks everyone for answering my questions so quickly and all the great advice  My mom and I are planning to go for our surgeries beginning of January, but before we do we want to make sure we are prepared as much as possible. My mom had a stomach stapling 21 years ago, unfortunately due to lack of support it never worked properly for her and so hopefully by doing this together we can be successful! If I have anymore questions I will be sure to post them. This is a really great onlines support system.
