ANY regrets getting the Vertical Sleeve?
bigdd replied to pumpkin07's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I had mine done nov. 10. Its the best thing I ever did..My only regret was not getting done a couple years ago. My gasy feeling only lasted maybe 2 weeks at best. Im not sure what the "slimes" are lol ..I never had any. I was a little afraid about 2 weeks before the operation also thinking about once its done there is no going back. But I hated being fat also for more than 20 yrs so I did it. Like I said its the best thing I ever did and I feel wonderful and I still have lots to loose. Darrell -
I also got very dizy a couple of times and it turned out with the weight loss my blood pressure dropped off as well.....My medication for it has been cut twice now since the operation so thats a good thing

Hi Nancy Im just replying to your question about Dr Alvarez. You fly into San Antino Texas. They pick you up there and take you to Eagle Pass Texas and put up up in the Holliday inn. They pick you up the morning of the surgary and take you across the border which only takes 15 min to get to the hospital from the hotel. He has a newer clinic right beside the hospital that actually has a breezeway conecting to the hospital on the second floor. You have a privite room in the hospital with a computer & internet, free phoning to anywhere and TV of course. There is a extra bed if you have someone going with you. His clinic is newer looking where as the hospital is older but very clean. I would have no problems what so ever going there again or sending a family member there. Im not exactly sure where the operation took place because as soon as they gave me the "happy juice" as nurse called it , it was lights out for me.They took me about 9:15 I think and my wife told me I back in the room at 10:15 am. I didnt come to till 5:15 pm . So monday they picked me up in San Antiono. Tue morning they picked me up again at 6:40 and we were at the clinic at 6:45. X rays and stuff. Out of surgary at 10:15 . Wensday they get you walking. I was walking outside around the block wed. On Wed night the Doc was showing me how to Ride his Segway. On thur they took us back to San Antion and put us up at a hotel and friday we flew home. I dont mind what so ever talking about it so if you have any more questions feel free to ask. I dont mind emailing or talking on the phone either :001_cool:

Well its been 4 weeks now since I got my "sleeve" All is going very well. Im stalled at 46 lbs lost, but have been told that is normal so my body can adjust. I have had no problems so far, I know I dont get all the water im supposed to but im working on it still. I have had a very bad knee for the last 2 yrs and boy I cant believe what a differance this weight loss has made on it already and I still have a long ways to go. :biggrin0:

Elkford B.C. here.....9 weeks post op 60 lbs lost...... The Dr. I saw said he does 2 canadians average per week
-
No I didnt know that about the 4 lbs per square inch. Is the meniscus the same as the cartilage? I went to 2 differant knee specialists and I guess my cartilage is ripped right out of there and the bones are hitting. But both doctors said they wouldnt do anything until I lost weight. If it keeps getting better the way it is maybe I wont need them anyway.

Just a little update.......9 weeks today since the sleeve 60 lbs lost . My energy level has shot through the roof and my bad knee just keeps getting better :sad0:

I had the same problem and it lasted about 2 weeks. I sent a email to my contact person and this is what she told me and it makes sense "....please don't be a slave to your scale, only weigh once per week...your body needs this time to adjust to the weight loss you have had thus far and you will have weeks that you may not lose any weight...I have had stalls for as long as 5 weeks....it is just your body adjusting, trust me, it doesn't like to give up the fat...give it time and please be patient. This is going to work for you so just go about your daily business and let the sleeve do it's thing, remember you did not put the weight on overnight, nor will it come off overnight. :sad0: " -
My doctor also told me when asked that the most my sleeve will stretch is 3-5 % over 5yrs

I know what you guys are talking about with your taste and smell senses being changed.......One drink that i had before the operation was a moca ensure drink.......I bought a couple 6 packs to drink after the operation as well....I cant stand them anymore......just about made me gag..was so sweet. I landed up taking them to the local food bank... Also those protien bullets. I drank a few before the sleeve.....also made me gag afterwards. I tolerated them for the first week of clear liquids then got rid of the rest...

I think the girl thought I was nuts when I ordered it but Oh well -
Im 5 weeks post op tomorrow..the first 3 weeks the weight dropped off like crazy, Almost to fast.. Then it came to a screeching hault and I actually gained 2 lbs. Back home and feelin' good !

thats what I would do .....knowing what others did. I never had any problems.....then when you do the full liquids you can drink the protien shakes as well and have decent lump free soups -

My diet was 1 week clear Fluid & 2 weeks full fluid then 1 week soft food -
Im 1 week post op now and overall feel pretty good. The only problem im having and maybe its normal is my stool in very watery (brown) and lots of noise from my stomach, steady and loud. I read where a couple of you had the opposite problem being constapated. Is this normal what I have? Im still on the clear liquids maybe thats it?
-
are you getting in some protien also? protien bullets when on the clear liquid.......shakes when on full liquid
-
Ya it does firm it up some...lot less brown liquid :crying:....The Dr told me a lot of the noise is stomach acids being re-established as lots are taken away with the surgury
-
After 4 weeks im still getting some noise from stomach as well..... are you taking benifiber? it will help with the liquid out......helped me lots
