protein shakes-I'm going to starve!
lucygoose posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my goodness! I thought that I would pick up a few protein shakes and kind of try them out so that I would be ready for my pre-op that starts in a couple of weeks. Yes, I am still 3 weeks from then but I am kind of anal when it comes to preparing for things - plus I am just so excited! Anyway, I picked up a Chocalate Malt muscle milk and you have got to be kidding me! People actually drink this??! LOL I can handle ATkins and Sllimfast - heaven's knows I have drank enough of those on my fat journey. But this stuff is just undescribable. Somebody please tell me that all high protein drinks dont taste this bad! -
How long after surgery can we consider our stomachs healed - where we don't have to worry about leaks or bumping into something? Where we can lift anything or do any kind of exercise? Where if we eat something bad it is because it just didnt agree with us, not because it is going to damage anything?

When is your tummy healed?

Hi Bigdd, How is everything going? It looks like the weight is coming off great! Any complications? Only 14 more days until I get to meet Dr. Alvarez! -
Mountain_lover now on the Pre-op Diet!!
lucygoose replied to mountain_lover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats mountain_lover. I know how excited you are. I am not far behind you on the 8th. It feels like I go to bed thinking of the surgery and the future and I wake up thinking of it. The pantry is already reorganized with "my shelf" and I had to talk myself out of packing my bag already. lol .. I'm not sure how tall you or what your goal is, but our weight is pretty much the same thing. It will be fun tracking together. Best of luck on the diet. -
Thrilled, scared, nervous, but I'M APPROVED!!!!

Hi Mountain_lover, Congratulations on your surgery date - you too twobluecats! My surgery is scheduled for Dec 8th and it is pretty much all I think about these days. Mountain_lover you said that you were working on getting weaned off all of your meds. Is that a necissity BEFORE surgery? I am on blood pressure and cholesterol meds but I cant see coming off of them until I loose a significant amount of weight first. -
Hi bigdd, I guess you are in Mexico having your surgery today. I am sending prayers and good wishes. I have surgery scheduled with Dr. Alvarez also on Dec 8th so I am really looking forward to hearing about your experience. Take Care.

I have my surgery on Tuesday, December 8th. I have an office job and plan on returning to work the following Monday. Is this realistic or do I need to plan for more time off?

Question to people that have lost a lot of weight
lucygoose replied to Gingin33's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
haha I actually apoligized for being snippy before she came back at me. Then I just told them that my health care decisions aren't their health care decisions. Ultimately I am the only person who is responsible for ME. (I of course value husband's insights but still the buck stops with me). Maybe they will all agree to disagree! -
Can anyone tell me how many mg of calcium they are taking a day?

Question to people that have lost a lot of weight
lucygoose replied to Gingin33's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Gin, I am 47 and need to loose about 100 pounds. My surgery is scheduled for Dec 8th. I have 3 sister's (I am a twin) and 2 living parents who all weigh much more than I do. Every single person in my family has serious comorbitors. I have hypertension, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, and arthritis and I am probably the healthiest of the bunch. Everyone is objecting to this surgery as if I have lost my mind. Their most recent claim is that I am going to look years and years older once I loose the weight (that is if I survive the surgery according to them). My response to that is - I had rather be dancing looking older than slowly dying looking young! Has anyone else had to deal with such strong negative reactions from family? One of my sister's actually told me that she thought being fat was more healthy than having surgery. She thought I should try a fat farm for a couple of weeks. LOL.. I had to use Dr. Phil's line on her and ask her "How's that worked for you?". LOL -
I know that many bypass and lapband patients wear medical ID bracelets. Is there any need for a VSG patient to wear one?

how much time out of work
lucygoose replied to lucygoose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everybody. I know you have to take it easy, but it just seems amazing to me that you can have such a drastic thing done to your body and be able to bounce back so quickly. I wish my hysterectomy several years ago had been as easy. Of course that wasnt laproscipic so maybe that is one of the big advantages. -
Hi LapGryl, This is an awesome sight isn't it. I have scheduled my surgery with Dr. Alvarez for the 8th of Dec. I think he is the right choice for me too. I have great insurance but it does excluded any kind of bariatric surgery or treatment regardless of what loopholes you may go thur. My husband is the most wonderful man in the whole world and told me if I thought this was right for me, he would trust me and we would find a way to self-pay. And we by God's grace we have. I just wanted to mention to you that I have spoken to someone else who went to Dr. Alvarez and they said that he has excellent finance programs. I don't know much more than that but it might be something you would want to check out with them. I wish you all the best. Don't ever give up! Our health is more important than ANYTHING!

I just gave myself the best Christmas present ever. I've scheduled surgery with Dr. Alvarez for December 8th! I am so excited and proud of myself that I could burst. I have made a concious decision to make this journey alone (which has my husband very supportive but a bit apprehensive). But for me, having this surgery is so much more than just a weight loss experience. It is taking back control of my life, the decisions I make in my life and knowing that I have found the inner power to do whatever I need to and want to. I dont know if many other people feel the same way but for me this is not only a physical journey but a spiritual one as well. I am encouraged by all of the people that have gone by themselves. This site gives me tremendous insight and hope that my day is just around the corner!

anyone have info on Dr Guillermo Alvarez in Piedras Negras?
lucygoose replied to cajun's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi Andi, I am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Alvarez on Dec 8th. By this point I have done the research and feel confident in my decision. I had read about the experience of the woman who stated that she was threatened by Dr. Alvarez. However, also integrated in her statement was the fact that she her depression had returned and she was having to see a therapist again. For me, I pretty much had to disregard some of her rantings because it seemed she had other and previous issues she was dealing with. Have you come to a decision on your surgery? -

Hi thinoneday, I agree with how wonderful this site is. I actually have not heard the constipation remedy yet though. Would you share your secret? -

My husband has UHC through his retiremtent plan. I have called them 5 times to see what requirements were needed before I added myself to the plan. 5 times I specifically asked if there was a supervised diet requirement for any amount of time before surgery would be approved. 5 times I was told no. I sure hope the 5 different people I talked to knew what they were talking about.
