I agree with the other posters. Just wanted to add that I had a two week period where I gained one pound and the next week I lost 8 pounds. Be patient, our bodies are fighting us a bit on this and trying to hang on to every morsel.
-
Nancy - why are you eating soft foods? Are you unable to eat more solid food? 19 lbs in roughly 14 weeks is still good. I know how you feel hearing about others losing so fast, but we are all different. I don't know about you but before I started this process, my scale was going in the other direction.

I agree with the liquid spray, that is what I used. One of my fellow June bandsters accidently swallowed a hard candy and said the pain was excruciating. Try not to risk it.

How about somewhere around mid-June, 2010? Weekends are 12th - 13th and 19th - 20th. -
Worried/Confused/Need to Understand
brown bear replied to gfjeblon's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The benefits outweigh the risks, so I agree with the others on that. The risks are really quite small compared to the poor health many of us start with. Just wanted to add that a good friend of mine recently had bypass surgery and her husband elected not to but he started eating portions closer to her portion size and exercising with her and now he has lost more weight than her. It has worked out very well for them as he is her biggest supporter and it really helps both of them even though only one had surgery. -
Flu and Lap Band & Coffee and Lap Band
brown bear replied to DD3's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Per my doctor: 1) If I get the flu I am to come in for an unfill immediately to avoid damaging the band by repetitive vomiting 2) My doc never mentioned coffee at all so no restrictions. I know that some do have a problem with it but there are plenty of coffee drinkers here. It all depends on the doctor. -
You are not alone! I need to update my ticker but I have lost 40 pounds and my size 24 clothes I have been wearing for years are now a bit loose - that is all. I am starting to use safety pins in some of them at the waist but I am still too big for 22s. At least the scale keeps moving in the right direction.

Strikeuptheband - I am with you on the knowing I can do something and then doing it again. I ate toasted sourdough bread last week then hamburgers then tried a sandwich with regular soft sandwich bread thinking bread was bread and it would be no problem. I am happy to report that the soft bread was really a problem and I could not finish it. I won't be trying that again and that was before a fill. I had my first fill on Friday and my doc will only put 2cc's at a time. Had 2 from surgery so now 4cc's. I was told I am still pretty open so probably will be back in 2 weeks due to hunger and/or lack of weightloss. This is fine by me. It is still fast enough only having to wait 2 - 6 wks for next fill depending on how I feel. I still eat around 2 cups of food for a meal and have 3 meals and 2 - 3 snacks a day. I know it sounds like a lot but is certainly less than before surgery. I will make better choices in the week to come and hopefully that will help my weightloss some as I have lost 8 pounds since surgery. Those candy bars may have had something to do with it.

Who i want vs. who my PCP wants...
brown bear replied to L.J's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I agree with Jack. I too was sold on Spivak but it was not to be. I am very happy with my doc. Research the other doc and you may find you like him, too. There are so many good ones in Houston. But, if after looking into it you are more comfortable with Spivak then that is who you should have. -

brown bear replied to courtney2001's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I went through True Results and have been very happy with the staff and my doctor, Dr. Hollis. -
Wow!! 309 - ccarter, you are in good company. Hope you are feeling well.

I slimed over scrambled eggs this morning. I wasn't careful about chewing because I thought they were soft and it would be no big deal. I was wrong but luckily it was short lived and I did not throw up.

Losing weight, No PBing, Slime, or Stuck
brown bear replied to LundyLane's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I believe that how tight you are is a personal choice. Some prefer to stay a little loose and eat a little more and others choose to be tight and eat less. As long as you are losing weight and happy with your rate of weight loss, I don't think you should compare yourself to others and do something because they do. This is your life and you get to decide what is right for you. -
Swelling after surgery
brown bear replied to pjd3253's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for this. I was actually not sure what was going on but I think this is my situation now too. I am 15 days post-op and my pants seem tight around the waist which I have been really puzzled about. I am losing a bit of weight so I could not understand why they were so tight. I thought maybe I was just being overly sensitive due to the surgery and they had always been this tight but I don't really think so. Glad to hear it will pass soon. -
Almost 7 months out...no weight loss

lol:lol: Thank you, Snowbird! I am glad to see that I am not the only one with this method. This is a big part of how I quit smoking, too. -
How much is too much Protein
brown bear replied to LeslieR041906's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have heard that too much protein can decrease bone density. Also, it is recommended that people consume 0.75 g protein per kg of weight. When I did the conversion math I rounded this to roughly 1/3 of body weight in pounds. This means that if I weighed 240 lbs., I would want to consume about 80 g of protein. This is for all people, not specific to losing weight or a reduced calorie diet. I believe it would take long term extra protein to really do damage but talk to your dietitian. Good topic! -
My boyfriend is an avid cyclist and he laughs at my bike seat and calls it a tractor seat. I cannot stand the narrow seats, they stop inside my hip bones and cause the seat to press on my tailbone which hurts like crazy. I refuse to ride without my tractor seat. :scared2:

I live on the NW side and work on the west side (energy corridor). What about you? Have you posted this on the Texas Support page? Different people might see it there. Here is the link. Texas Local Lap-Band Support - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum

Thanks guys! :tt1::thumbup: You got me to go back to The Daily Plate which I have not been doing. I had decided not to do it until I was on real food but lately I have been worried that I am drinking too much. Why should I stress when I can log it and see for myself how I am doing? I believe I am doing well even though I have V8 juice between meals and meals can be an entire can of Soup. :tt1:

I was banded June 25 also and I am eating as much as you (probably more). -
What will YOU eat on the 4th of July?
brown bear replied to snuffy65's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am on full liquids and am going to visit family out of town. I am bringing packaged soups with me and when we get to Austin I will stop and pick up some yogurt smoothies. I also intend to bring my magic bullet just in case there is something served that I can blend into a liquid. -
Banded on June 25th and have a ? about shoulder pain.
brown bear replied to lorimaxine9969's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have read here about people having serious problems we mistook for pain. When in doubt, call your doc. With that said, I was also banded on the 25th and thought I was over the hump until yesterday when I started having sharp pains off and on in my side. I don't feel that it is anything serious but maybe we still have some pains left to go yet. -
if anyone can give me some advice please
brown bear replied to clifton81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no experience with this, but - perhaps you should try liquids only for a couple of days.
