Hello Everyone! Wanted to give an update.
brown bear replied to allana's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yikes! I am glad this was diagnosed. Surely, you are on the road to recovery with the new medication. Good luck! -
You guys are great! I agree with Armywife - I feel better after reading here. My 2nd fill was postponed by doc's office until next Tuesday and it was already overdue. My weight has really been jumping around lately so I have not changed my ticker - I lost steadily last week only to see a 6 pound gain on Monday (just from Sunday)! Weird, so I am eating right and waiting to see what happens. Back to work.

I take chewable vitamins and use Body Fortress protein powder from Wal-Mart. I add dry sf pudding mix to the protein powder and water for a shake. It tastes much better and does not add many calories or carbs. I have used Slim-Fast low-carb drinks to have around in a pinch. They have about 20 grams of protein per can where with my shakes I was using 2 scoops of powder for 52 grams so the BF shakes kept me full longer.

Who Went Home The Same Day As Surgery?
brown bear replied to speck's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Surgery at noon, 2 hours of recovery and I was on my way home. It was no problem. I have a recliner and my BF got it ready for me when I got home with a heating pad and lamp plugged in nearby and we put my meds and a drink on the end table next to the chair and I was set. You will be fine. -
Worried about Calorie intake
brown bear replied to littlefroggy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Protein shakes are about 240 calories each with 52 grams of protein. My daughter is lactose intolerant and vegan. She drinks shakes made with 2 scoops of soy protein and uses brewer's yeast as an additive to soft foods to add protein. I have heard others complain of the weakness from lack of calories at this stage. I think you should listen to your body and do what seems right to you. Good luck! -

Who has regretted getting the lap band & why?
brown bear replied to Shauna80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only 2 months out - regular food for 6 weeks. I love this, I am having no problems. So far the weight is falling off of me though I know that won't last. I am also not very restricted so I still eat a fair amount of food - more like 2 to 2 and 1/2 cups at a time. This is still less than before. Regarding the urge to eat for taste, I have heard some long timers say they prefer to eat 1 cup of food and lose more slowly because they find that 1/2 cup is just not mentally satisfying. I would think if this is really a problem for anyone, they should try a very slight unfill and eat a little more. Give it a try and see what happens. -
My ticker starts with highest weight which is beginning of 6 month pre-op diet. I have lost a total of 47 lbs. now but only 21 of that is post-op, 9 lbs. lost during the 2 week pre-op diet, and 17 lbs. lost before the 2 week pre-op diet.

brown bear replied to babyblue71us's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, we are having a noon birthday party for my 1 year old granddaughter on Saturday so I will miss the first meet but you guys go ahead and I will catch the next one. I really hope this will take off. It is so good to talk to people who understand some of what we are dealing with. -
I too find myself qualifying with 'from my highest weight' and 'I've only lost ##pounds since surgery'. If I say 'since surgery' I mean since the morning weigh in on the day of surgery at the surgery center. I don't know how others think of it.

Who has regretted getting the lap band & why?
brown bear replied to Shauna80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pom - call your doctor and see if they have any suggestions Shauna - I agree with zengirl. Some people's bodies do seem to have trouble with the band and you never know how your body will react. I believe most people are fine and that the odds are in your favor if you get banded. I am only two months out and all is good for me so far. You might want to view the complications section of this website but remember it is all about that minority of people who have problems so it can be really negative and scary. Good luck with your decision. -

I haven't seen anything current on that one. We could start one or go across the street to Starbucks at 290 and Spring Cypress by the Best Buy. -
add to shakes? (liquid diet)
brown bear replied to KristyLynn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No milk as it makes it too thick. I am going to have to try some of these other ideas. They sound good. -
Gail - I was looking at the recipe thread earlier today and they have some good recipes with spinach and spaghetti squash. Look at the Baked Spaghetti Fake Out and the Creamy Spinach chicken salad. There are many more, just browse through it and try some. Here is the link to the thread I am talking about. Cooking, Baking and Recipes - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum Good luck! Gail (yes, I am Gail, too)

My doc recommended adding sf pudding mix. I love it! With vanilla protein powder, I can add chocolate pudding mix or cheesecake pudding mix and frozen strawberries. Yum. -
Don't you just feel the obesity cloud lifting?
brown bear replied to Apples2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know exactly what you mean but I am not there yet. Looking forward to it. -
I have waited too long for my second fill. It is scheduled for Aug. 25th. That is the first available. I went out to lunch today and immediately afterward called and scheduled the appointment because I ate almost the entire meal at lunch. I haven't been losing the last week but I thought maybe it was just hormones. Most days I do not have much problem eating but yesterday I pb'd twice! I was in pain both times and it was a relief to have it over with quickly. I will definitely have to be more careful after my next fill. Can't wait.

Please respond if you started with a bmi around 40
brown bear replied to emily111's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One month post-op I was 8 pounds lighter than at surgery. This was my first fill appointment. I had lost 9 pounds in the 2weeks after surgery, stayed the same the 3rd week and gained a pound the 4th week. I have seen many other people on here say they did about the same. The week after my fill I lost 9 pounds now I have stayed about the same for 2 weeks and just scheduled my second fill. I should have done it sooner. The weight will come off but you may need to change it up sometimes. Many people here talk about their bodies breaking a plateau by exercising more or less or eating more or less maybe for one day or for a few days. It jump starts the metabolism. -
I know how much is in mine but I don't think it matters. I will need a different amount to have good restriction than someone else so what does it matter how much is in there. It just matters how it feels and works. Don't worry about it.

What You wish you Knew
brown bear replied to Maranda's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have heard other people say that stress, sinus drainage, and hormones can all affect how much they can eat. Yesterday was the first time I have had that problem and I have no idea why. I keep Campbell's soup-at-hand at work in preparation for those days. -
Just checking in. I am here everyday reading but not often posting. I will probably call and schedule a fill (2nd) soon. I am eating more and the scale was still going down but now is not. I am not sure if it is hormones & water retention or me really eating too much. I had a hysterectomy years ago and still produce hormones so I have weeks when I am hungrier and more emotional but I can't really tell what is going on so I can always claim PMS and no one can claim otherwise. lol. I am really busy at work lately so not much time for anything else. I will be here reading about how you all are doing and silently cheering you on.
