  1. I am home after spending the last 4 months in hospital (Edmonton, Canada), 3-1/2 weeks of which were on life support equipment in intensive care. I flew home on 16 Jan 10 from TJ. My husband took me to the ER at 4:00 a.m. because I was filled with abdominal pain. It turns out I had massive infection as a direct result of a leak (cut) where my esophagus meets with the stomach. This had gone undetected by Emmanual Medical Center (Jerusalem Hospital). The doctors here told my husband I was close to death and even if they save me they may not be able to save my esophagus due to the damage from the infection. Thanks to God and many prayers, I am still here today. I wasn't even conscious for the first month of my stay in hospital. I still have a slow leak but my surgeon is allowing me to have a balance Fluid diet for now. If the leak increases I will have to go back on being fed through IV tubes as I have been for 3-1/2 months. I'm sure in the U.S. I would have had to sell my house by now to pay the medical bills. Lucky for me here there is no bill except my loss of wages from my employment as a paralegal. I was paid about 55% of my income from the Canadian Government employment insurance program until recently. Now my private long-term disability insurance is kicking in so I am saved financially so far. Emotionally, this has been the hardest ordeal in my life. I still have to face hernia repair surgery and skin grafting of my huge wound. I also have to go to have a stent removed from my esophagus that had been inserted in an attempt to bypass the last hole to heal. That hole is starting to leak again. Everything I have said here is true and from my own experience. I have much paperwork to back up any statement.
  2. I actually ended up copying the pics from your e-mail and then copying the one out of your album of you and Alison last Christmas. I found out that I could copy by right clicking on the photo right on this site. Anyway, then I e-mailed them together to myself at work and showed you off today. They were in awe!

  3. Wow! We'll both have an exciting week. Let's enjoy the process and be up to the challenge.

  4. How about doing an 08 Christmas photo next to an 09 Christmas photo as a "before" vs. 3 months out? The one with Alison in 08 on the sofa and the new one with her standing at that same sofa? I want to show you off to the women I work with.:001_wub:

Why am I posting these on the internet??

Your bravery will be well rewarded in due time when you can post all your progess photos! You go girl.
  6. All we're asked to do is take a laxative one time only, then clear fluids (and yogurt) for 3 days prior to day of flight. In this case, my flight to San Diego is this Sun. a.m. so I start pre-op Thurs a.m. My instructions are to have plain fish or chicken and a low-cal salad only if I find the liquids only too difficult. I'll see how it goes. I work in an office all day Thurs and Fri. My VSG is in Tijuana MX but their driver will pick me up at the San Diego airport only 15 minutes away. My sister did this end of Sept; my niece is getting sleeved same day as me. That's stoongal and time-for-me. Check out stoongal's photos. She's 71 and looking great.

  7. Your daughters don't know it yet, but you are giving them a happy, healthy mom. What a gift!

  8. Hi Mona, howzit goin? I'm getting pretty pumped now that my VSG is only 1 week away! Still struggling about my love affair with food. I've asked God to take control of it all so I know He won't abandon me.

  9. I'm 95% packed and ready to fly south. Are you good and excited yet?

  10. Hi Marci. I'm happy to meet another January sleever; mine's on the 11th. I'm many years your senior but sure wish I could have had this done when I was 29. I'm already so much happier just knowing there is an end in sight. Happy New Year!

  11. Hi there. How's your weight loss progress?

  15. Hi there. I'm stoongal's sister and will be in TJ 10 Jan to 15 Jan 2010 with her daughter, Time-for-me. See you there!

  16. Hi Janet

I'm finally showing a photo on here after waiting till close to surgery date. It is just great that Canada will be well represented at Emmanual Medical Center the week of 11 Jan! Donna is sure doing great after 3 months. Happy New Year to you and see you down there when you and Alison and I get our lives on track together.

    Picture update

Thanks for the amazing photos Tiffykins. You give me so much hope. My VSG will be on 11 Jan 10. I'll get my act together soon with some before pics. I have always been the one behind the camera so I have to have some taken to put on here. Maybe some day I will like to have my photo taken.
  19. Hi Mona

I'm so excited about this life-changing experience called a VSG. Mine is scheduled for 11 January in Mexico so I have quite a while to wait.

Often now I'm very busy talking to myself and God about improving my attitude about food. I like cooking and preparing a big meal for family and also contributing to church suppers, etc. I want to eat to live not live to eat. However, I still want to enjoy serving food to others.

  20. Your macaw looks the same, but you look younger already! I'm going for my VSG with Dr. Almanza in January! Keep the photos coming.
  21. Hi fellow Canadian. I have 3 months to go before my sleeve surgery. I didn't even try to get on a waiting list in Edmonton. I'm spending some money and going to Mexico. At least our dollar is almost at par with the USA. Please accept me as a friend and let me know how you do after the surgery. My sister, Stoongal, has already had hers recently. Her daughter, TimeForMe, and I are going down together in Jan. I wish I had this opportunity when I was in my 30s!

  22. Hi LunaSea. I'm a newbie who will be having sleeve surgery in Mexico on 11 Jan 2010. I just turned 61 yesterday and notice you're just a year behind me. My sister (Stoongal) is 71 and she's recovering very nicely from her surgery. Are you planning on having it done or have you already?

  24. Chancie, you are a beautiful inspiration for a newbie like me. I have almost 3 months before my VSG. It feels so sweet to have a brighter future.
