Should I have gotten the DS (Duodenal Switch)
tia_1417 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm two weeks away from being 12 weeks post op and I've only lost 15 pounds. I barely eat Breakfast (maybe two slices of bacon - I'd rather drink my Protein coffee than eat) - lunch is usually a smart ones and I'm completely stuffed to the max. What I have noticed is that I want to eat every 2-3 hrs. When I do eat breakfast or lunch I'm only full for a little while (about 2- 3 hrs) then I'm ready to eat again. I'm wondering whether I should have gotten the DS because of the malabsorbtion???????? I'm going to do the 5 day pouch test and hopefully things will turn around for me........ Should I have gotten the DS (Duodenal Switch)
tia_1417 replied to tia_1417's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Tiffkins, I'm going to get Prilosec today and start taking it immediately. I'm going to start my 5 day pouch test on June 7th. It's easier for me to do it during the week because I'm more restricted at work. The carb monster really really come out about an hr after I eat lunch. I really do think the hunger that I'm feeling is head hunger. If all goes well I'll try to do the 5 day puch test once a month. Thanks so much for all your advice:wink0::wink0::wink0: T -

Tiffkins, I rarely ever have heartburn, do you think I should still take the prilosec or nexium. I have the chewable tablet pepcid, but I only took them my first two weeks. I use to chew them like candy. Do you think if I take then an hr or two after a meal that I won't be as hungry???????????????? Thanks T -
The Inevitable "I'm Not Losing Fast Enough" Thread

:confused1: I couldn't agree more. I think I'm the slowest sleeve looser in SLEEVE HISTORY. I was sleeved on 3/11 (started out at 220) and lost 12 pounds within the 1st two weeks, and nothing after than. At my 6 week appointment I lost another 2 pounds. Tomorrow is my 9 week surgiversary and I lost maybe another 3 pounds. This morning I was down to 203, but by tomorrow morning I'm sure I'll be back up to 205. I don't know what I'm going to do. I really dont like Protein smoothies..... I put protein in my coffee and get full really quick, but nothing seems to work for me. I hope to be in onderland by June 1. That means I would have to loose 3 pound sin 2 weeks............. Lord give me strength......... -
:cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing: What is going on, I have stepped on the scale for the past three days and each day I gained a little more. I went to Vegas for a week (last week), and we walked and walked and walked and walked some more. We walked from one end of the strip to the other end, we even ventured down to the "older" end featuring the Riviera and Sahara. We walked so much my feet started swelling and my calfs were killing me. For 5 days I walked extensively, and when I got back home I got on the scale and it said 202. That was okay but I thought I would have lost a little more. The next morning the scale said 205, and the next morning the scale said 207. I barely ate anything the whole trip. I was eating Protein and drinking Water. I would take 2 bites here and there and I was done. I just knew that the walking was going to make a big difference - Well it did I'm gaining weight instead of loosing weight. WHAT IS GOING ON SLEEVERS?????????????????:tongue_smilie::confused1::thumbup::confused1::bored0::confused1: I can't get into wonderland to save my life................. I'm 8 weeks post op....... T

:cursing::cursing: I'm less than you...... I was sleeved on 3/11 and my stall JUST recently broke the other day and now I'm down to 205 from 220. I wish I was at 20 pounds 2 months post-op. I'm hoping and praying that I can loose 6 pound sover the next 5 days that will put me under 200 pds at my two month surgiversary. I don't know what's going on.......... I'm frustrated toooooooo...... T

:cursing::cursing: Am I the only person in history that had VSG surgery and still can't loose weight????????????? Y.E.S. I am almost 2 months post-op and to date I have only lost 12 pounds. I went in at 220 and lost the first 12 within 2 weeks, and after that nothing. I totally understand that I might hit a stall, but I haven't seen ANYONER STALL this long. The sad truth is my body just doesn't work anymore. I had the lapband and had it removed after 1 1/2 yrs because I wasn't loosing any weight and now with the sleeve the same thing is happening. It's not the surgeries, it's my body. I eat Protein first, for ex: today at lunch I had a few bites of chicken breast and that was it. For Breakfast I had two sausauge link, I ate 1 at 7:30 then ate another one at 8:00 For my snack I had protein coffee...... I really don't know what to do at this point, my sugar levels are acting really weird. Today I was running low at 65 and 57, but yesterday I was between 97-120, and the day before that I was a little low. Something isn't working and I don't know what........ WHY DID THIS HAPPEN TO ME, WHY CAN'T I BE NORMAL LIKE U GUYS???:thumbup1::confused1::001_tt1::confused1::confused1::confused1: -

Thanks Ladies, I'm a diabetic and I take 2 pills a day and byetta twice a day and insulin at night. Since my sugars are diiping low they want to decrease some of the meds. The sad part is my sleeve doctor don't have a nut on staff, but my diabetes dr, does have a nut however that nut doesn't know anything about the sleeve. I had to explain to her what the VSG was. So my diabetes nut want my calories at 1200 but my sleeve doctor would like my calories to stay between 800-900/day. The nut wants me to eat some good carbs but the sleeve doctor preach Protein first and foremost. If there is room for some veggies then just a little bit, but there isn't any room for anything else after the first couple of bites. Everybody is on a different page and I'm lost in the middle............... -
Can we talk. I'm going through the exact same thing as you. I was sleeved on 3/11 and to date I have only lost 12 poiunds. My carbs are under 20 grams and my protein is definitely at 60 grams, and for the life of me I don't know what's wrong. Something is terribly wrong with me and I don't know what..............

Make a room on the loosers bench for meeeee!!!!!!!!
tia_1417 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, Make room on the loosers for me.......... I had my surgery on 3/11 and I had to stay in ICU for 3 days..... I couldn't keep ice chips down I kept throwing everything up. My blood pressure was out of control and the morphine wasn't helping it. After several different medications my blood pressure finally started to stabilze and I was moved to a regular room on Saturday maybe around 2-3am. I was given my first taste of broth and cyrstal lite then, man it was soooo goood. I was finally released on Sunday afternoon. When I was admitted I weighed 222 and today I weigh 216......... It's finally coming off......... Tia:001_rolleyes::smile::smile: -
Hello Everyone, I'm having Surgery on 3/11 and do you guys have any last minute advice. My docote had me start the pre-op diet today (only 4 days). I'm 5'6 225 pounds. :001_rolleyes::001_rolleyes: Thanks Tia

Hello Everyone, I've been stalking the boards for some time now. I'm pre-op and my surgery date is 3/11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've just ordered a ton of samples from multiple vendors. I'll try anything once and I just have to find the right combination. My physician is Dr. Alanis in Houston Texas......... I had the lap band on 4/4/08 and it was removed on 12/17/09. My doctor wanted to wait a few months to make sure that there wasn't any scar tissue and let my stomach retain it's normal pre-surgery size. I took 2 1/2 weeks off from work, I can tolerate pain pretty well so I hope this surgery is just as easy as the lap band.............. I can't wait to post before and after pics:scared0::biggrin0::scared0::scared0: Wish me luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbup::001_wub::thumbup::scared0: Tia

:scared0: sleever that is...... I had the lapband placed in April 2008. I have lost 19 pounds but gained it all back. My insurance paid for the band but I'm having a hard time getting the doctor to remove the band. The insurance will pay for it, but he's just stubborn. I switched from my original lapband doctor back in June, do you think I can switch to another doctor without the insurance company questioning me? The two doctors on the top of my sleeve list are:Dr.Aceves and Dr.Alvarez, however I can pay alittle more and see a doctor that's only 20 minutes from home and work. I'm so afraid that I might have complications and I want to be able to go straigh to the doctors if I think anything is wrong. The prices for the sleeves in Texas are really reasonable. If my doctor still don't want to take out the band should I a.) switch US doctors now and go to Dr.Alanis (his sleeves are only 13.5k and he's the Dr. that's 20 minutes away) or b.) Go to Dr.Aceves, according to Nina he'll take out the band and do the sleeve all in one procedure for 12.5 Advise anyone ppppppppppplllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaasssssssssssseeeee
