Hi Helen I too am a food addict, I love food, every single bite. But food does not love me. I've struggled for 25 years just like you have. I just can't do it alone. Has the sleeve cured your addiction? Do you still crave all those foods you used to LOVE? Is the emotional stress tolerable? Do you get depressed because you can't eat? And what do you do instead of eating? I am not morbidly obess, I'm what ya'll call a "light weight" My BMI is 39 and I'm 235 lbs. But I'm only 5'5" and should weight 135. This extra 100 lbs. effects everything, my back, my knees, my breathing, my sex life, my heart. I want to be normal again !!!! Do you regret any of it? Do you miss eating? I fear I will....be depressed when I'm in a room full of people gorging themselves on Christmas dinner etc. To me it would seem like avoiding the Bars if your an alcoholic, but how do you avoid food? SO many thoughts, so much to think about......... -

Nancy My husband married me at 225 lbs. He has watched me struggle for 7 years, trying every new diet that comes along and I DO try. But fail because I have not control over portions. I do well for a while then fall completely off the wagon. This is the ONLY thing I have never been able to conquer in my entire life. I am a self taught artist, airbrusher and floral designer. I've been through to bad marriages, and raised two kids totally on my own. I can do just about anything I put my mind to, except loose weight. I asked my husband "if I can find a way to get weight loss surgery will you let me do it?" He said Yes...you struggle constantly with your weight and I worry about your health. I want you around a very long time, so YES if you can find a way, do it. Then he said "will this make you happy, I said YES, it will change my life". So he's totally behind me, because he know's I have poor self disipline. My grandfather left me an inheritance, and my mother has been hanging on to it. I asked her is she would let me have it for this surgery, and she said for this....YES. She want's me healthy too. So I did my research, and I'm going for my first consultation Oct. 22nd, in Gonzalez, Louisiana. A friend fo mine had it done in March, 2009 and is doing great. SO I am using the same Dr. She used. It's 3 and half ours away that's all. I thought of out of the US, but my husband, Mother and best friend put the breaks to that. They all said NO WAY. I was going to try to save some money, but they all said you can't garage sale with your life. Stay in the US, and we'll support you. SO I am. Those 3 people's opinions mean more to me than any, so I'm doing what they ask. I say, if he loves you , and wants you healthy, he should encourage you. It does cost a LOT, I could not have done it with out my inheitance. And I can understand his stand on the money, but you life is worth much more than money!!!! that's all I got, stand strong. Judy -

Oscar "the grouch" -
May I ask ? where was your surgery done? How much did it cost? How long did you have to wait for your surgery date? Did you have to sign a wavier? I live in Mississippi. So I'm a fellow southerner. Was wondering if it was any cheaper than Louisiana, which is 13,950.00

I think this is a great idea, for a newbie point of view, it will help a BUNCH !!!

Are you shocked by how much others eat?
JudyJudyJudy replied to attitudefree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I watched a TV show, that had the daily intake of a 600 lb. woman, and it completely cover a table top. Her stomach had to be the size of basket ball. I watch "BIG Medicine" sometimes...it is so sad to watch. Because so many don't make it. But "THE BIGGEST LOOSER" is very inspirational. It always makes me cry, because I can relate to every thing they go through. -

I was just thinking how much money I'm going to save on groceries. How I'll never have an expensive dinner check again. My husband eats normal portions (not HUGE) when we go out to eat, and always has food left. We will be able to share our food from now on, with no problems...how nice to think about the savings. He is already talking about the things we will be able to do, like hiking, walking, swiming, dancing etc. He wants me to get in a tree stand with him while he's hunting. We won't be sitting on our butts watching TV every night. I'll walk my poor puppies more often. And have so much more energy, I CAN'T WAIT. -
I have a question about water or any Fluid for that matter. I've measured 2 oz. and it's about the size of a shot glass. Should that be sipped? or is a gulp allowed? I forsee gulping water in my future because of my job. Will that make me sick?

The smell of "good" food
JudyJudyJudy replied to cajun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a BIG OLE QUESTION....what will we NEVER be able to eat again? Is bread off limits? What foods can we NOT eat after being sleeved and healed completely. The friend of mine that got sleeved and initially got me interested said she is just now able to eat 1/2 hamburger. Is that a bad idea? -
How much weight to you average a week? I am so glad to know that fruit juice is not that big of a no no. I was thinking of diluted juices myself. Some juices are so darn sweet i have to delute them even now, and I've not had surgery yet. But O-Juice is a big NO NO right?

What do you want to do that you couldn't do before the sleeve?
JudyJudyJudy replied to *susan*'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am very curious about the loose skin. That is a big concern for me. I mean we all put so much money into surgery (or at least I will, I'm a self pay) and I'll work hard to loose the weight only to have to pay for another surgery to remove the skin? Will execise work at all, to make the skin shrink at least partly? What should I do? I watch the biggiest looser and those people to seem not to have so much loose skin. DO you think they have surgery before the finaly? -
Post-op pills - do I really have to crush them?
JudyJudyJudy replied to Bookgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was really wondering about this...I have 3 huge horse pill I have to take every day for my ulcerative colitis. I have no idea how they'll taste crushed. But they are BIG. -
This is the life I long for. A life of food control. I Normal life of not being miserable after uncontrollably stuffing myself. To be confortable in my own skin.

Fluids and Fiber - TMI story but important
JudyJudyJudy replied to DownInSocal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This will be a big concern for me...because I've always had problems with constipation, and I have ulceritive Colitis. I am a very hot natured person too. I've always slept with a fan at night. And on top of al that, I am 48 and am in the middle of hot flashes also. My job is very physical, lifting, walking all day, pulling, pushing etc. I feel I will have to drink constantly to keep myself hydrated. Where I work is usually very cool, because I'm near the produce area, so I should stay cool all day, but NOT ME..I sweat especially with the hot flashes included. I'm glad you posted this, I will be extra carful when I have my surgery. THANK YOU !!! -
