Vonnie started following Pre-op diet day 3, Staples or glue ?, Any One With Apoe 3/4 Genetics On Here? Or Had A Triple Bipass? and and 4 others

Are you asking about the glue on the outside or the glue they can use on the stomach itself? I am asking to have the glue and the staples or sutures, however they do it, because I hear you have less chance of a leak

Any One With Apoe 3/4 Genetics On Here? Or Had A Triple Bipass?
Vonnie posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 54 years old and have had a triple bipass already and APOe3/4 genetics with the LPa cholesterol, metabolic disorder. I have bmi of about 39.3. I dont have diabetes but all my siblings do. I wonder if a sleeve would help limit blockage. When I do the fat free diet I lose weight but only with walking 5 miles a day. My hair falls out, I get serious dry eye. But my cholesterol improves. I am pretty active and eat healthy for the most part. I have been on a wheat free diet for weeks now. I lost a few lbs. A normal person would have lost more. I wonder if it's safe for me because I keep blocking. Now my front wall of heart is blocked. Lap bands DO NOT work for our family. It's sad and I hate to have the sleeve if it won't help. Doctors here don't know either. Maybe someone knows of someone with this problem and could help. PLEASEEEEE? Also I have most of my weight on my abdomen and back. The worst place. My doctors know the band won't work and are not sure of the sleeve because I dont metabolize fats well. And have the problem with the little cholesterol.-

Hahaha, hey I don't feel so bad now. I whine so much my sister asked if I wanted some cheese with my whine! I am booked to get mine mon. the 28th. This has been a rough 2 wks. What saved me was when I ate some cottage cheese (low fat). Doc said it was ok. It made my stomache ache go away! I sprinkled bacon salt on it and it saved me from disaster. You are gonna make it just read the forums, they encourage you!:001_smile:

Realistically.. what should I expect?

After talking to some old timers who have been at this awhile they say "If you are not losing weight you could need to eat more protein. If you don't get enough then you won't lose as well, so use low fat, low carb. protein choices. Also it could be lack of exercize.Another reason is that the liver tries to bring the body back to homeostasis (constant state of equalibrium) The body will do this even if you are taking good stuff, like new vitamins. They seem to work for about 2-3 mo. then the good feelings taper off. That's why we "eat the fruit in the season thereof". We might have to change diet choices to jump start the losing process again. Don't forget essential fatty acids. The liver has to have them. They work well with protein esp. sulferated protein ie. cottage cheese. -
Can I eat too little on the Pre-op?
Vonnie replied to barefootinablacksea's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am due to get mine on the same day as you. I hate protein drinks but I got some banana whey from GNC, their brand. It is soooo good. I freeze a banana to put in it, with calorie countdown milk. This has saved me!! It has 20 g. protien for 1 scoop. -
AWESOME!!! I can do that!! Thanks, I am 2 steps closer to my decision to go thru with it!

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I really need it. It seems to me people are still struggling with their weight and I'm doing that already without surgery. I am worried bec. my husband will be very upset if I spend the cash to have surgery and it doesn't help. He thinks "why not just do the diet without the surgery?" I replied, sure, just go on this easy liquid diet with me for 2 wks. If I lose alot I won't get the surgery and you will lose too." He made it thru ONE shake. It blows my mind how men can be sometimes. But alot of people are still doing 700=800 cal. diets WITH the sleeve and I am not sure I can commit to that type of restriction.

Well you had it I guess. We are all waiting to hear how you did. I am scheduled for Sept. 28 if I don't chicken out!. Living in cajun country with all the food they cook here may be rough. But we have to do it for our health so we can enjoy our kids and grandkids. Hope it went well for you.

Are you having to do a strict diet to lose this? -
I am having the sleeve gastrectomy Sept. 28. But after reading the posts about post op diets and hunger I got discouraged. I want to be able to control what I eat but will I ever be able to eat a peice of fried chicken again? I mean 1 pc. but don't think I can perm. give up everything. BMI is 42 and I have alot of muscle. I want to lose about 60 lbs. but am discouraged about keeping it off. I am on the 2 wk. liquid diet, 1 wk into it, and I have felt like I am starving the whole time except for when I ate cottage cheese. My stomach aches like a tooth ache and I can't find anyone to talk to who has had it done. I hope I am not doing the surgery for nothing. I have a very hard time losing bec. my metab. is so slow. Will I even lose after this? I can't go on like this feeling starved for too long. Please tell me it gets better. I have lost 4 lbs. and I am sure some is fluid bec. I took fluid pills. What is the recomended calories a day post op to lose and keep it off?:svengo:
