I still have questions...
carolyn24seven replied to Lauren's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did a pre op diet. Protein shakes breakfast and lunch. Salad at dinner with 3oz chicken or fish. Lots of water to drink. I got off all carbonated drinks. Got off of caffein. Got off of candy and ice cream. All for 11 day pre op. I lost 7 lbs. The point for me was to get rid of the crap in my diet. I am taking this sleeve thing seriously. It is a lot of money and pain to just loose some weight. I am doing htis for the long game. Keeping it off. I knew I would have to change my habits to obtain that goal even with the sleeve as a tool on my side. My "bedmate" at surgery did noting. Not even one day. She made the decision to just "do it" and she did. I have not heard from her and I wish I would. I do not know how she is fairing. I am really concerned for her. She was still unable to keep anything down on the day we left and she went to the airport. I do not know if her non-dieting had any bearing on the post surgery results difference we are experiencing. I suspect not. More the physical differences, probably. Diet only for yourself. (unless that is the Dr.'s plan for you of course) Listen to your body and mind. Get in touch with what your inner self wants, truly wants. Then do what you need to do to be successful. -
iLinda, I so wish I could eat like you. I am still on mushies.I want to chew something crunchy so bad. It could be something healthy, I do not care. I did not realize I would miss chewing so much. I know when I get to the whole foods stage I will get to chewX3, but, I am miserable waiting. I am just tired of drinking everything. Okay, my whiny rag is over. Thanks for listening everyone. BTW:The scale at the gym I joined weighs me at 4 lbs lighter than my scale at home! What is up with that? The Dr's scale weighted me 3lbs lighter. I am still going by what my home scale sez. Maybe I will get a new one, one that does body fat as well as weight. Has anyone bought one of thoes and does it help at all? My BMI at the gym was 3 points higher than here also? I need to stop obcessing about the scale and BMI huh? Ok. Off to have my cream of wheat.

carolyn24seven replied to attitudefree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
tiny-tum. itty-bitty. oh sweetie. LilBit. newbie. T-love. If your name was hooch you could name it turner. I am thinkg of kat for mine. the way it growles and gurgles it sounds like a cat. and my last name is Alley. get it. Alley-Kat? hahahahahah wouldn't want to call it bowling. or oop. this is kinda fun. -
people can ana do eat around the rny all the time.mThey have huge problems with mal absorbtion and their bodies are telling them they are starving and need to eat. so they do. With the sleeve no mal-absorbtion and the feeling of fullness is there. You can eat around the sleeve also. It is only a tool. Ya gotta figure out how to use it.

honey question
carolyn24seven replied to sweetie333's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had honey in some tea 2 weeks post op=no problem. Maybe you should wait a bit then try again. Have a sugar free popcycle's until you get on full liquids or even mushies. I lived with thoes popcycles for almost two weeks. (3 a day or more depending) I still have them once in awhile. your attitude towards water is great. Just have patience, you will be at solid foods before you know it. -
expecpted weight loss after the first month?
carolyn24seven replied to sweetie333's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 25 lbs lighter at almost 3 weeks out. The most startling part of that for me is my clothes all still fit. I must have been in some kind of denial about how tight my pants were fitting.lol I am looking forward to a new wardrobe in size 10/12 my self. I hope to be there by June of 2010. Have you set a time goal for yourself? I decided to be reasonable at set a 10 lb a month goal, knowing I will exceed that in the first three months then possibly slow down for the next 5. Overall if I get the 80lbs off by June 15 I will consider it a victory. -
I hate when I have to miss a day on this board. I am late to say, thank you to luck. So good to hear your message. We are the same height but Ihad revised my goal to 165 after seeing a girl at the clinic, she looked so great. Maybe after I reach the 165, I will revise my goal to 135 again. So darn confusing. I am getting tired of drinking everything. Even though I have moved to mushies, still, not enough chewing to satisfy me. Patience, I know. I am loving my warm broth or tea in the mornings still. I am going to the gym daily to ride a bike. (bad knees, can't walk for exercize) Hubby even joined yesterday! I am still sleeping in the afternoons alot. (2hrs, I think they implanted the siesta gene while I was in TJ for the sleeve) I am going back to work in another week. Naps will have to stop/reduce by then. LOL Lan2: you have got to get some relaxation/meditation therapy going for you. When your mind starts buzzing, you need a way to turn in down/off. Have you tried Hypnosis? The flem in your throat is a problem that can be cured with musinex or other medication, why hasn't your Dr. suggested something? My Hubby suffers from that flem once in awhile, it is a panic inducer as he feels he is choking and cannot get a breath. You do not need anything to induce panic. Work on that problem as a separate issue unrelated to the sleeve. Tiny steps girl, keep putting one foot in front of the other. huge hugs to you.

MexicoWeightLossSurgery.com The Facts
carolyn24seven replied to Sandy Johnson's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
wow! you guys are really going at it. I am a well satisfied patient of Dr. Almanza's. I posted my positive experience and no one kicked me off. I am encouraging of anyone who wants this surgery. Whoever they choose to go to. It is a personal choice. We all have our own reasons and need to do our own research. I used Sandy as an initial contact, she was very helpful. Not at all like a used car salesman. And, I am a used car dealer. Darn it, I am laughing at your slighting of my "profession". The Dr.s all have their good and not so good points. Let everyone make their own informed decisions. I tried to find any bad reports on Dr. Almanza, there was none. I did not find any bad reports on Dr. Aceves. either. I had a great experience in T.J. so that is the end of the surgeon talk for me. I welcome opinions from all with reguards to post op diets , problems. We are all in this for one goal. Getting healthy. -
Norma, congratulations. I am so glad you had a wonderful experience. Now just take it slow and easy. Want to hear from you when you return home.

An Article I just read on OH re: VSG and Leaks
carolyn24seven replied to LAN2k's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You made it through Sept and now October. Congratulations! You can do this. No one promised you easy did they? Stop reading thoes articles. Do all positive stuff. Your new life is just beginning, give yourself a chance. Would you read thoes articles to your grandson and his friends? I think not. Give your new tiny tummy a break. It does not want to hear negative information. Talk to your new tummy. Encouraging words. Think positive, get out of the doubt. -
Help!! What is wrong with me??? Eating w/in days of post-op
carolyn24seven replied to jmgsearch's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sorry you are having such a rough time. I have never heard on this board that you could eat like you are right after surgery. Try this, go for a sugar free popcycle before you allow yourself candy. see if that cures the manic craving. drink water, and protein water. get the food in first that you are supposed to eat. you will figure this out, keep trying. -
What should I be feeling a week and a half out?
carolyn24seven replied to Manatee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you have to slow down. eat much slower. I am having trouble learning this also. I am sticking with soups blended. Had mashed avacado for b-fast this AM. Try to stay away from mashed potatoes. makes you hungry again sooner. Get any can of soup you like and blender it. Heat 1/4cup at a time. And, if you are full at 1/4 cup,,,well, yippiee. -
I live in Anaheim. Mickey and Minnie are my neighbors. I love it here. However,I travel alot so, I do nothave to deal with the traffic like most.
-
you do not have to just have broth. At three weeks, get any soup you want that sounds good to you. Blend it and sip slowly. It is heaven in a cup. You can have yogurt now. SF puddings are a spoonful of paradise. I like baby applesauce and pears. I can even enjoy FF cottage cheese. Tastes good to me now. Iamjust trying to enjoy the new feelings and sensations I am getting in response to food.

Has anyone chickened out?
carolyn24seven replied to wishinghoping's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will be fine. You know you need this. You will be fine. People with stomach cancer live just fine with out their stomachs. No, this surgery will not cause you to get stomach cancer. lol that was the answer I got to my stomach cancer question. That thought is not so far out, people. You get skin cancer from the sun, so, for me to ask about stomach cancer from elective surgery??/ not such a ridiculous thought. anyway the answer was not just no but, hell no. So, I am embarrased but, smarter. I try to remember: there are no stupid questions, only stupid mistakes. (From not asking questions I suppose) -
Judy, you will not miss any foods. the cravings go away too! I am only 16 days post and it just dawned on me I have NO craving for sugar. This being Halloween, I am so amazed. I am a sugar freak. Strike that, WAS a sugar freak. It just happens. RubyTuesday, I am so happy for you. You are about to start a great journey. Enjoy this trip, it will last a life time. I will keep you in my prayers on monday. Calling all Angels, fly with Ruby and her care givers on Monday that they all be safe and well.

I still have questions...
carolyn24seven replied to Lauren's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will be so happy with the sleeve on your side. That is how I feel. I finally have something on my side. Working for me. You can go into this knowing you will do very well and you won't have to suffer the whole weight issue your whole life. You can be a normal size person and live a normal life. You will have to work with your sleeve. But, just go one step at a time. It is great you have Your Mom to do this with you! get up and walk walk walk. Gotta move more. Your recovery will be what you make it. 4 days after all is forgotten. You are ready to get up and go out for a bit. Not back to normal, but feeling pretty darn good. So, just be patient and think how great this is going to be for you. This is a bit like taking a class in school. When you go in you know nothing about the subject other than you are interested in it. Then as the class progresses you find it is awsome information to have and by the end of the semester you want more, and you want to tell others about it. the excitement grows gradually. -
Feel really unwell after eating, 4 weeks post
carolyn24seven replied to sam-i-am's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not on whole foods yet, except eggs. It takes me almost 20 min to eat an egg. Which means it is cold towards the end. ick! I got some good advice from Stoongal. Put 3 tablespoons of what ever food you are eating in a small server dish. Eat that while it is hot. then go make another 3 TBS hot and eat it if you feel like it. I am doing that with any whole/mushie type foods. I am still loving my soups. I make myself 1/2 cup at a time now and can almost finish before it gets cold. The whole idea behind the sleeve is to not eat like we used to. so eating very little is a good thing. It is just hard to get my head around the idea of a 1/4 cup of anything being a full serving. Patience. hummmm -
Morning Chat?
carolyn24seven replied to attitudefree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sure, but, make mine tea. -
welcome! just go slow with the eating, give your stomach time to adjust to the new program. It will tell you what it wants and how much. I am not off soups yet. I can and do eat soft foods but, I am in love with soups. Good thing I had my sleeve done in the fall. I wonder what people eat in the summer? I am all over the hot herbal teas and hot soups. Good luck. Have patience.

Huge disapointment
carolyn24seven replied to JudyJudyJudy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Oh Judy I am so sorry this happened. I agree with Tiff though, it is just a speed bump. you just have to slow down to get to where you want to go. You will still get there. Maybe God just wants to see your determination? I will pray for your improved BP. -
Only 1 step left....Surgery!
carolyn24seven replied to kelly17's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats Kelly! Welcome. The time will fly by. What a nice Christmas present you are giving yourself. Try to keep thinking in that line, that you are doing this as a gift to yourself. It is perfectly normal to have so many doubts, ease your mind. I smile when I think of my sleeve. Just the perfect gift. -
Boo! have a spice tea. HEY, It just dawned on me, I have no craving for sugar at all. Me, the jelly belly, or, spice drop queen. wow, amazing, not even chocolate! Just wow. I can not believe it, no candy corn, no mini snickers or hersheys. Does this last?

Love my VSG 15 months after!
carolyn24seven replied to jdforeman's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I will wait until a least a month out. No one wrapped me when I left. I was driving not flying. my roomate got wrapped but she was flying back to canada. Another thing, what size to order? I am losing weight so fast now, I do not know what to do? -
yeah know the feeling, I get four bites down and that is it. I am doing better getting a 1/2 to 3/4 cup of soup down. Any watery based soup that I blender I can now eat more than a bit of. Kinda nice. Soup is comforting. Sometimes in the middle of the night if I am up, I have a cup of broth. I can get almost all of it down before it gets too cold. I am choosing the lo sodium kind so I do not get the ankle swelling. I bet you do not have as much muscle as you think. I bet you have "fat" around your muscle making it look larger. My calf muscles are huge to me, but as I loose the fat around them they are looking smaller. I love the pict of you on your horse. Maybe you should try some streaching exercizes when we can. To lenghten your muscle look. Yoga?
