  1. Mine is the 28th of this month, I was fortunate enough to get in on the free airfare deal as well as the lower rate. Good thing, huh? So you are going to be there for Halloween?
  2. Hey, that is who I am going to go to as well. Yes, I am sure you will be treated well there. I met a woman here who went there and she really liked her experience there. That prompted me to read up on sleeve WLS and altho most here recommend Dr. A in Mexicali, I still went with Dr Almanza. When in Oct will you have yours done?
  3. Mnb, congratulations on getting a surgery date and for choosing the sleeve. You will find many people to support you on this journey here in these forums, so keep on posting and seeking answers as you will think of many many questions along the way. Will your surgery be close to home? Mine will be in just over 2 weeks in Mexico. Welcome to the sister-hood!
  4. Welcome, We lost our only dr. who performed bariatric surgeries here in Saskatchewan, and I never even considered going thru the hoops of our system to get admitted elsewhere. Are you choosing the sleeve? I chose to do self-pay and am scheduled for my sleeve in just over 2 weeks. BTW, went to high school in Chatham NB and Bedeque PEI is the home of our ancestors, (United Empire Loyalists) so have visited there often. We were back there a few yrs ago (to the maritimes) and plan to go next summer again. My hubby served in the airforce and was stationed at Summerside. how THAT place has changed! Hope all goes smoothly for you there and that you don't have too long a wait, do keep us posted and feel free to ask questions here as people are quite knowledgable and very supportive. Cheers!
  5. I am hoping your remark about bargain shopping was not meant to be unkind, but it did take me aback. I had already made up my mind about Dr. Almanza and Emmanuel Medical, it is just that the special they started Sept 1st galvanized me into action about it. I had many ducks to line up in a row and now have done it all, so please wish me the best. I feel I have saved myself well over $3000 by catching that ad. Not once had I considered any other facility, so felt it was serendipitous that I happened to be online in that forum when I saw the ad! I even got the 28th Sept date for the free airfare!

    September Sleevers!

Mine is sheduled for the 28th, and it will be interesting to see about eating slowly - now it seems I shovel it in and am done before the others. Also always clean my plate even if I feel full. So I normally am used to being stuffed with food. Anyone find it hard after the sleeve to feel stuffed like before? Does nausea kick in when you do overdo, or what? How do you get those weight loss ticker scales up and running? Thanks

    is this for seniors?

Well, thanks for your encouraging words. We have almost the same starting weight, and I am SO IMPRESSED with your loss so far, almost 60 lbs in just over 3 months! Incredible! You have quite a low goal weight - I was thinking of going for 148 lbs as goal and will happily take anything under that! You must be shorter or tinier framed or something, not at all built like me I bet. Did your heighth shrink as you got older too? I was 5'5" most of my life, so was so surprised to see it come down so far. When seated my rib cage rests on my hip bones. My other goal is to get my apple shape more normal, want to have a waist below the 35" they say that is so much healthier. How is the evil stall? Do they come frequently? I definitely will have the operation on the 28th of this month, did all my paperwork (passport, banking, doctor visit etc) this past week and all is systems go! My kids are finally accepting, and my hubby is amazingly supportive with it all! I am so blessed! Here's to the next 20 years!

    Let the journey begin!!

Vertical sleeve date is set and now we get to document the whole process pre and post op.
  9. Hi MacMadame, Research hemp hearts, the inner part of hemp seeds. They are so healthy, have lots of calories and all your essential fats, protein, and so much more, besides they taste wonderful. I have been sprinkling these on my oatmeal now for a year or more, but can be eaten with a spoon all by themselves. I get these from Alberta here in Canada but I am sure you will find some closer to your home. I will incorporate them back into my diet when I am able after sleeving, as I like them that much!

    My story...

Welcome to the forum, I too am a newbie, I believe my sleeve will be done Sept 28. I too was concerned about being older. But people here have been so reassuring, and encouraging even though I am 71! So we will watch with interest both our stories as we go along our journey towards a healthier life! Good luck and please keep sharing. :blushing:

    is this for seniors?

forgot to mention that I am up here in Saskatchewan so with the dollar difference and the cost of airfare being considerably higher, you may understand why the money made a big difference to me, being on only 2 small govt pensions.

    is this for seniors?

thanks everyone for your support. Yes, I am going to go ahead with this - I had already favored going to Emmanuel Medical in Tiajuana, and the ad to the right cinched it. I was first to respond to get the sleeve for $5000 and the free airfare if scheduled for the 28 of this month. Seeing my PCP tomorrow AM to get in writing that I am fit for this, then will wire in my $5000! I am so excited (and a little tentative at the same time) as it is a drastic decision, and one I have been contemplating and researching for only 2 weeks. I see most of you favor the Mexicali surgeon but I can't pass up this kind of savings. I have read many favorable testimonials about this facility and epecially Dr Almanza. So feel pretty confidant about it all. :001_cool: Stoongal
