    Day 15

Charity, Congrats on your progress. You need to increase your protein intake to at least 80 grams/day. You will be fuller longer and faster. Also will prevent you from loosing your hair and lean muscle. Carbs should be the last thing you eat on your plate. Protein 1st, vegetables 2nd and carbs 3er. Just a word of advise Good luck
  2. Coffee is a diuretic therefore, you will have to increase your fluid intake to avoid dehydration. I was a big coffee drinker prior to the sleeve and quit prior to surgery and soo glad. I don't miss it anymore and have decaf if I must have it. Good luck

    Feeling down...

I am not sure if you read this article (below) seems common to be depresses following surgery. I think is a great idea for you to follow up with your therapist. I just remember it will just get better. Many people can't imagine becoming depressed AFTER losing weight. However, depression can occur after weight loss surgery or when undergoing any time of major lifestyle change. Possible causes of depression after WLS may include: - Mourning the loss of food for comfort. If food has always been your "friend" or something you depended on when feeling sad, stressed or lonely, saying "goodbye" can be difficult. - Mourning the loss of pre-operative lifestyle. For example, feeling left out while socializing, participating in holiday rituals, or when dining in restaurants. - Reactions from others. Relationships with loved ones can change or become strained. Reactions to weight loss may be negative or jealous, or otherwise unsupportive friends/family may resort to "sabotage." Positive reactions or increased attention from others can lead to feelings of discomfort, vulnerability, or resentment. - Having unrealistic expectations. For example, thinking that everything will get better after surgery or that your emotional eating or other disordered eating habits will simply disappear. - Hormonal changes. For some women, estrogen is released while fat is burned to make energy. This release of estrogen may cause mood swings. - Body image discrepancies. After rapid weight loss, you do not recognize yourself or lose a sense of self. You may experience a loss of identity between the inner and outer you. The postoperative blues typically occur during the first few weeks or months after surgery and subside over time. However, if you find that your symptoms are worsening or are beginning to interfere with your relationships, work, or daily functioning, it is time to seek help from a medical professional. __________________

  5. Hello! I was sleeved on Sep 16th. I did great the first two weeks, for some reason I am struggling on my third week. I am hungry and craving real food. I am tired of the shakes and cannot have cream soups as I am lactose intolerant. I am tired and do not want o do much. I am back to work and once I get home I am ready for bed. Is this normal? I am trying my best to keep my Protein intake not less than 50 grams per day. I have not lost weight in the last three days. I was weighting my self daily and not sure if I hit a stall. Sorry I need to vent Iliana Sleeved Sept 16th lost 23 lbs Dr Davidson Dallas, Texas PS hot do you add that tracker to your profile?
  6. Hello, I also had surgery two weeks ago. I am not sure you're supposed to be taking Ensure. I was told that is for people who have dietary deficiencies. You need to be on high Protein shakes that are low in calories and sugar. I am told need to consume 60 grams of protein and drinks less than 14 grams of sugar. I am still on liquids and have been taking the protein bullets at GNG 42 grams of protein. I sip that through the day and keeps me satisfied. Ensure was told a no-no. The reason why you can't eat and drink is because Water or any other liquids push food down quickly from the stomach which will make you hungry faster. The point is to keep food in your stomach as long as possible to slow down digestion. Hope this helps Iliana Keller, Texas Dr Davidson Dallas
  7. Hello!

I had my surgery on the 16th. By Dr Davidson in Dallas did not feel anything woke up in my room which was beautiful hardly any pain.

DAy one was a bit challenging I kept having stomach spasms every time I drank. They gave me Bentyl and helped a lot.

I am home little pain just discomfort on the sites and lots of gas.

I am ambulating and doing my incentive spimometor at home as well.

I plan yo go out for a walk tomorrow. I just been having dreams about food and feeling hunger which goes away with my protein drinks. I am getting 60 grams daily is that common?

Hello all, I have been reading post and doing research on the VSG. I decided to go for it. I am cash pay as my insurance will not cover it, despite all the good things I heard I am skeptical and anxious. I keep asking is this going to work for me? and can my mind turn on the good eating habits from one day to the next post op? Anyone dealt with this before? and how do you cope?
