Cajun- I'm thrilled for you!! And you are so early out you have many more wonderful experiences coming your way!!! I'm with the others-Tiff-thinoneday-soontobeskinny= Not getting it.....I got a flu shot about 12 years ago, and I know all the research says you won't get sick from the shot- but I DID. It hit me within 30 minutes from getting the shot and I was soooo very sick. All the doctors say you won't get sick and if you do- you were going to get sick anyway. Well- I was COMPLETLY HEALTHY and don't believe it...... and don't wanna take that chance again. So........... no flu shot for meeeeeeeeeeeee.

When is it ok to start drinking coffee?
Chancie replied to charitymarroquin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Xbander- I can just tell you about my experiences..... everyone is different. I'll be 9 months out on Nov.9th- and I just vomited last night. I had a hard time in the beginning..... would have the slimes and then vomit. Nothing I couldn't handel, just had to learn how to eat right. Now, alot of it's due to the fact I might eat too fast, or not chew my food like we're suppose to. Kinda think I'm "normal" but I'm not:001_tt2: Like Vegas- I can't eat breakfast- don't even want food that early- but I know we have to eat three times a day, so I still do protein drinks in the mornings. I've tried, on my days off I can kinda eat, but it's late around 9 or 10( and had been up for several hours) So- I just stick with the protein drinks for my morning meal. Last nights episode was because I ate too fast- and let me tell you- it hit quick! I almost didn't have time to make it to the bathroom! Wasn't ready for that, but I have noticed the last few times I have gotten sick- it has been FAST! -
I never knew how good I would feel in a GOOD bra!!! And Bill......... LOL... too funny!!
-
Thanks for the encouraging words Vegas! And Susan.. I don't think I'm gonna make it either, but am givin' it a good try!! I'm down to 208 again......Thats 9 pounds I would have to lose and thats not realistic this far out of surgery. But I have not given up- I exercised again this morning, and have watched what I ate today. I had my year visit with my Knee Surgen, and he was impressed with my weight loss, the mobility of my leg, and said I was looking and doing fantastic! ( his words! ) So that was another PLUS......... made me stay focused today! I have reflected since my doctor visit, and told them how much i appreciated them, and how having my knee surgery finnally made me realize I HAD to do something about my weight. They kinda saved my life too..... becasue if I hadn't had the knee surgery, I would have probably kept up all the excuses. But having a good surgen, I knew it was my end that needed to improve. I could hardly go check the mail without being out of breath, I would try to bring in the trash cans and it would feel like I was taking on such a major project, out of breath, my feet hurting, my back hurting..... I was miserable! I know I'm kinda rambeling.... but I think those of you that have had the surgery know what I'm talking about, and those that are hoping for the surgery, hopefully this will make you see that there is a bright side to it...... health. It CAN get better.... and will........ but the road you choose to take is yours and yours alone. And no one can do it for you, and it is a daily struggle, and something you have to work at. But it can be done. I am greatful today......... and I had another GOOD day.

When is it ok to start drinking coffee?
Chancie replied to charitymarroquin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats a debatable subject..... some docs dont' want you drinking it, and others don't care. My doc was against it, would rather it be decaf- says sometimes caffine makes you want to "graze" and he also said it doesn't count towards you liquid intake.... I stated drinking it about 6-7 months out. I can't eat breakfast yet, so I put my protein powder in it. -
What a great night!

New to this in Dallas with questions and fears...
Chancie replied to twobluecats's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi and welcome to the boards!! Any type of surgery is a big decision......... so all I can offer to you is that it WAS THE BEST DECISION I EVER MADE! I too am a self pay- and researched for years, wondering if it was worth the money I spent......... YES IT WAS!! I would not have been able to continue working in the field that I'm in.... I'm healthier, and more focused. I wish you the best of luck in your decision. -
I'm kinda with Tiff on this one.... gonna wait and see where I am at in 3 months- not sure if I will make "goal" but am trying to. ( am 9 months out on the 9th of Nov. ) I think I will probably wait another year- gonna talk to my surgen when I see him next month and get his opinion on the subject.

Dieting after surgery
Chancie replied to charitymarroquin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your mind probably can't even imagine being full on a 1/2 cup of soup- but you will. So early out I had a hard time getting in my protein drinks. Just take your time, you may "want" to eat more, but you shouldn't make yourself sick by eating more than your new tummy can handel. You WILL be able to tell! -
Didn't know where to post, so here I am! LOL First...I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for not being in lately, I've been having problems with my Hotmail account, and can't get into it. I subscribe to post that I post in and like to answer them that way..... but now I can't get into it! But I think I figured out how to change it here. Second..... I've had to go to Memphis for work and was gone a few days and really busy with work in general. I work in retail and I guess you all know that this time of year is crazzzzzzzy! Already getting ready for Christmas! And Third........ I hit a deer with my car saturday night!!:angry:It crunched my car! I can't drive it! I was soooo upset!:welcome: Totally messed up both fenders, both headlights-grill radiator- hood- its a mess! And to top it off- it happend just about 3 miles from my house! So now I have no ride- it happened on the weekend so an adjuster wont be out until Monday- and I go back to work Tuesday.... I hope I can get a rental! Oh Well..... enough whinning,.... I just wanted to let ya'll know what was going on with me.:sad0:

Up Date....... I'm kinda impressed with Progressive insurance! I was coming home this morning from running errands, and I called the Auto body shop and swung by there. The Adjuster had been there Friday and gave them the OK to start the work. $7.600.00 WORTH OF DAMAGE!! The Auto shop said they have a good working relationship with Progressive, and they don't try to cheat you or just "glue" things, they had to order several parts.... and was all approved. So they didn't "total" it...... so maybe things will be ok. I'm hoping anyway!! I had to use this auto body in the past and they do excellent work and don't cut corners and are honest... They all told me it will be a few weeks, but parts are ordered and car staring to be taken apart.....

Weird question/situation
Chancie replied to Tiffykins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is gonna sound gross....... but I've eaten a pickle and it come up hours later looking like relish!! That happened when I ate to late- and went to bed. Let us know what ya find out Bob!! -
Had a good FOUR days!! I've exercised everyday but today- and I really havn't done the 5DPT as it should be done, I just went back to basics, just Protein drinks and broth etc. I might try it next week- I'll be on vacation. The 5DPT is suppose to help you get back to how you felt in the beginning of your surgery, it's not for those just starting out- I'm gonna be 9 months out on the 9th of Nov. and being at a stall and knowing I can eat more, I want to get that feeling back and more control back. Here's the link explaining it better.... Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test I'm also a member of her site, very informative but mostly RNY. I think just a few days of really Paying close attention to what I was eating and HOW I was eating, made me refocus. I'm not a "normal" person.... I can't pretend to be. I will always have to pay attention to what I eat. But I feel good today too!!

Also a no fault accident....... I still havn't heard from the adjuster..... kinda curious as to whats gonna happen there, gonna call the body shop tomorrow and see what they think.

I just got in from the doctors(my PCP ), and there was a new nurse there and she was discussing my weight loss and I told her I had the Verticle Sleeve done, and she had the band........ a few minutes later she commented that she had never heard of it, and what does it do? fit over the band??? I was about floored! But I just explained the procedure very simply.....

Do you consume more calories than you think?
Chancie replied to Chancie's topic in Food and Nutrition
I've been half heartedly using several, but I started fresh with Myfitnesspal.... it's really pretty good, you can even make your own exercises to do... in my case I just logged Knee replacement exercises- so I can keep up that I'm doing them! So it's gonna be the only one I use from now on! -
Ok... I altered this one a bit... I just pan cooked mychicken on low till tender- and for the veggies I just used a large size bag of frozen mixed veggies ( I let them thaw at room temp before adding) I actually think it would be great with a boiled chicken shredded. The next time I make it thats wht I'm gonna do. I;ve already made this about 3 times, but warning......... IT MAKES ALOT!! Chicken Pot Pie 1/4 cup butter 1/4 cup flour 1 cup fat-free milk 2 cups chicken broth 1 lb chicken breast 1 cup chopped onion 1 cup chopped carrots 1 cup peas 1 medium potato, chopped 1/2 green Beans Salt, pepper, Italian seasoning 1 store bought Pie Crust First, cook your chicken. I cooked mine in a slow cooker for 6 hours on high. You could pan "fry", use left over chicken, or chicken from a can. Next, to make the gravy, melt butter in sauce pan and flour. Stir. Add milk. Continue stirring. Mixture will start to thicken. Add chicken broth and seasonings. Add vegetables and chicken. Let cook on medium heat while you prepare pie crust. Here's a Tip: As bandsters, we are always looking for ways to reduce calories. So with store bought pie crusts, I roll them out on a floured surface to make thinner. Then I cut it to the size I need. With this pot pie, I only used 2/3rds of the original pie crust. Hey, it saved me about 200 calories off my total dish. Anyhow, fill an oven safe dish with the chicken and vegetables. Then top with your pie crust. Bake at 350 for about 1 hour. Makes a ton! Somewhere between 8-10 bandster portions with about 200 calories per serving.
