  1. I am 7 months out and have lost 65 lbs with 32 to goal. I started with hair loss around 4 months which really increased around 5.5 - 6 months. Up until this time, I was not using any Protein supplements. At 6 months, I purchased some Nectur, 4EverFit and unjury. After using these supplements for 3 weeks, my hair loss has greatly subsided. However, yesterday my surgeon advised me from using supplements this far out stating that I am/will be taking in more calories then needed (he did say I was doing the right thing trying to get in more protein...go figure). I'm sure there are plenty of you out there that are close to or at goal that use protein supplements. How do you incorporate these daily with your regular food? I love making a super Protein shake especially for Breakfast with skim milk, greek yogurt, unjury and frozen berries. Is this too much? I really don't want to put my weight loss in jeporady. To date, I've not counted calories. I basically eat pretty much what I'm suppose to and stop at the first sign of feeling full (not stuffed). Hugs to all my support sisters out there! JoAnne
  2. I started with a little hair loss at 4 months. By 5.5 - 6 months, I was loosing a lot. So much that my scalp burns being out in the sun, and my part is noticible. I started taking Protein supplements, and 3 weeks after, I've noticed a dramatic decrease in the hair loss. I never lost clumps, but I thinned out a lot, as most people report. When I wash and dry my hair, I would have hair in the tub, hair in my brush, on the floor and over my clothes when drying. Each time would make a nice nest for some bird! In order to keep fullness in my thin hair, I use a good volumnizer. I believe the protein supplements really have helped (I just posted a new thread about what is the best way to incorporate these into my diet without jepordizing my weight loss). Try not to let this get you down, and stay focused on your goal of weight loss. It is temporary and adding protein does help! Hugs, JoAnne
  3. Hi to all my friends! Well, almost 4 months to the date, my hair is starting to fall out! I was hoping to avioid this problem. Anyway, I noticed about a week ago, that I was shedding. Just washed and dried my hair, and when I run my fingers through it, I get 5 -6 pieces at a time. I have a nice little pile next to me! :scared0: OK....I can deal with this...maybe. I've been taking all my Vitamins and even started taking Healthy Hair Skin & Nails way before my surgery. Guess I will try adding some extra Protein shakes to my diet. Well, at least it gets me talking to my sleeve friends again! Tiff, Chancie and Dee, you look wonderful! Hugs, JoAnne
  4. I'm getting in my Protein and pile of vitimans. I'm even taking an Omega 3 on top of all the others. I know it's only a temporary thing (I hope). Thank goodness for all the support this forum offers! Hugs, JoAnne
  5. I purchased Folicure at my local Sally's Beauty Supply. It was less then $5.00 for a bottle. It does help make your hair look and feel fuller. This is a good thing since everytime I wash it, I have more and more coming out. Everyone says you won't go bald, and it will grow back. I'm just thankful that I've lost half of my weight, but I still have a long way to go. Need to get outside and start walking now that the weather is beginning to get nice. Hugs to All! JoAnne
  6. That is so awesome Judy! Congrats and keep up the great work!
  7. I share your pain. I wanted the sleeve so bad and did all my research for it, but insurance wouldn't pay. I sold myself out to RNY because I was tired of fighting. Anyway, I am almost 4 weeks out. I am struggling on getting in my Protein, but it is getting easier as time goes on. I have information from my dietician for weeks 1 - 7 that I would be happy to share with you. Please PM me if you are interested. As for your hair falling out, it's probably a 50/50 chance we all face. It appears that it can happen to Sleevers too. There was a good thread about this a week ago that you can search on. For now, focus on getting yourself healed and nourished. Hugs, JoAnne

No, I've been looking for her posts. I'm really worried about ML. I hope and pray everything is ok.
  10. Hi ML, Just wondering how your surgery went. I know I did not want anything to do with the phone or computer for 2 - 3 days. I wasn't in pain but just couldn't get comfortable. Hopefully once you get home and a good nights sleep you will be up to posting. Saying a prayer that all is well. Hugs, JoAnne
  11. So thankful that everything went well for you Judy! I was put on full liquids when I got home from the hospital and able to eat sugar free pudding. It may not hurt, but you should try and follow your Dr's orders. Hugs, JoAnne
  12. Congratulations Shanda! Keep up the great work!:lol0:
  13. Thanks all. I'm having some issues with mushies. My stomach will hurt for about an hour after I eat. My stomach makes loud noises and I'm getting some wicked gas. I can clear a room! Is this normal? I've been working from home, thank goodness. However, I will need to go back to the office shortly. If I don't get this worked out, I'm not going to be fun to be around. Any help or suggestions? Hugs, JoAnne
  14. I am two weeks post-op today. Although my weight is not moving as fast as I would have hoped, it is moving down (always a good sign). Today was my first day on mushies. For lunch I ate one of those individual cans of premade tuna salad. It tasted so good to be chewing food! However, I think I ate a little too fast. I wasn't quite full, and decided to eat a SF pudding. Mistake. I wasn't hurting, but could feel that it was too much. Next time I will eat the tuna slowly, and skip the pudding. Hugs, JoAnne
  15. ML, you are going to do great! Keeping you in my prayers. Can't wait to read about your progress! Hugs, JoAnne
  16. Congratulations ML! I am keeping you in my prayers and sending good healing energy. I know you will do great! Hugs, JoAnne

    Definition of VSG

Sleeve Gastrectomy is the usual term referenced for VSG. From the list you provided, it does not look like VSG is a covered procedure. You should contact your Member Services to validate. Good Luck, JoAnne

    Speak now PLEASE

Morning Judy, From my own personal experience, never trust gas from the lower part of your body. I would take some thin mini pads with wings to line to the back of your undies. They were a lifesaver for me and my undies day 2 - 4 after surgery. Best of luck on your upcoming surgery. You are going to do great! Hugs, JoAnne
  19. Today I'm one week post-op and feel almost back to normal. The hospital experience was not bad. My pain level was pretty low (0 - 1). My main complaint was I just could not get comfortable. I also experienced nausea before and after the leak test. I would have to say that was the worse. Didn't loose it, but felt close. After I was off the IV and on oral pain meds, I felt so much better. I was home in my own bed the evening after surgery. The week has been pretty smooth. I'm on full liquids, so I'm living on mashed up cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, applesauce and tomato Soup, Water and herbal tea. I think I may go out and look for a clear Protein drink. I'm not tolerating the Atkins advantage shakes (just don't like them anymore). I'm a little disappointed that I've only lost 2.5 lbs post op, but I do know that I've lost inches when I put on some of my clothes. The weather is pretty suckie (feels like I need to build an ark). I did get out over the weekend and took several nice strolls around the neighborhood, but now we are back in the rain mode. I do several laps around the house to keep moving. I've not had much head hunger which is good. However, there is a taco bell commercial for the cheesy gordito crunch that has sparked my interest. This is so strange, since I may eat taco bell once a year. Go figure. I am looking forward to starting mushies next week. I can't wait to try some tuna or chicken salad. I'm not too worried about Thanksgiving dinner. I know I can stick to my full liquid stage. My thanks is that this will be the last year that I'm fat! Thanks to everyone for your support and friendship! I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving. Hugs and Blessings, JoAnne
  20. Good Morning Joon and NewMom, Congratulations!!!!! Today is the beginning of your new life! Sending you prayers and healing energy. Hugs, JoAnne
  21. Hi Janette, Keeping you in my prayers and hoping each day gets better for you. Hugs, JoAnne
  22. Me again,

I just saw you have a yorkie. I have 2 boys who I totally adore! They are such babies. My oldest is named Misha who just turned 6 and the "baby" is Kobe who just turned 4. I will have to update my profile with info and pics soon.

    Hugs,

    JoAnne

  23. Hi Chancie,

I wanted to thank you for all your support and to tell you that your new picture is awesome! You look fabulous!

    Hugs and Blessings,

    JoAnne

  24. Good Morning ML,

I'm doing great! The first 30 hours after surgery were a little rough. I thought I was going to lose it during the leak test. I was pretty "green" but held it together. I also could not get comfortable in the hospital. I really started feeling better when I went on oral meds. I'm on full liquids for two weeks, then mushies. I have plenty of cottage cheese, yogurt for my protien. I've made up cream of wheat and have applesauce for my carbs.

After my shower, I put on jeans and a long sleeve tee. I can button the jeans and they are comfortable, and the tee feels loose. One of my daughters friends came in and said "OMG, you look skinny!" Boy did that make my day!

Everytime I look in my closet, I keep telling all my clothes that their days are numbered! Can't wait to be able to buy "cute" normal sizes.

Thanks so much for you caring thoughts. Hope all is going well with your pre-op diet. This is such an exciting time for us!

    Hugs,

    JoAnne
