Reflections from a Fat Chick
Norma replied to roseyandmusic's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Pictures seem to make more of an impact than mirrors for me. -
I can't change my date as they have no openings in the early part of the month and my friend can't get off then. I will just have to let you be first and watch and learn from your experience. I am paying $9000.
-
Soon to be Skinny It sounds like you are experiencing low blood sugars. You might try Propel water for those. It won't help with your protein intake but it has just enough sugar to knock off the cold sweats.

Too bad you can't take the same time off that I have. I am getting excited as I have never gotten this far before. I have figured out the financing but still have to earn another 3,000 before Oct. I applied for the passport today. I am just getting the card since I don't expect to fly into Mexico. My photo was a lot better than my driver's license one. I got the tickets and since my friend had a voucher, only had to pay $110 total.:001_tongue::thumbup1::thumbup1:

Hyaluronic Acid-would it help with recovery from surgery?
Norma posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use a topical lotion that contains this for my knee, shoulder and back pain. I saw that they have a oral liquid too. Anyone else use this? Hyaluronic Acid (HA) occurs naturally throughout the body but diminishes with age. New research shows that HA may be the specific component the body uses to block the process that produces inflammation and pain. HA appears to reduce the body's overreaction to injury or trauma. Pain and inflammation occur when white blood cells in the body move to the site of the injury, a process called The Adhesion Cascade. Research shows that HA binds to some of the white blood cells preventing their overreaction to the injury. Thus, HA appears to reduce the body?s overreaction to injury or trauma by blocking the Adhesion Cascade. Enough white blood cells reach the site for effective healing, but not enough to cause swelling, inflammation and pain. In the body, HA breaks down into glucosamine, providing additional support for joints. -
I used to play softball on three teams in the summer. That was over 25 years ago. Seven years ago I worked out twice daily at the gym and with a trainer 3x a week and lost 130 lbs in 2 years. I changed jobs and didn't have the luxury of spending 3 hrs a day in the gym and got out of the habit. I have gained back half of that weight. Last week, I made it to the gym on three mornings. My goal this week is to make it 5x. I have to do something to get my body to lose weight as my insulin needs are just causing me to resist burning calories and I am tired of the continued pains and medical issues creeping up on me as I age. I don't like exercise and am not happy:cursing: about the need to do it daily but I am committed to getting healthier while I save $$ for sleeve surgery. Luckily my gym membership is only $11 a month for Supersport club at 24hrFitness. Is anyone else doing daily workouts and if so, what are you doing? Anyone want to jump on a bandwagon and post your efforts with me? We could us each other as support.:laugh0:

Steve, Welcome! I have been overweight since age 5-about 45 years now. I have decided on the sleeve but my insurance won't pay for any WLS so I will be self-pay and am going to Mexicali Mexico when I have the money together-hopefully before the end of the year. I have found this site to be full of supportive people who all seem to understand the trials and tribulations of being fat, obese, "vertically challenged", etc. Please to meet you!

Accompanying me...or not?
Norma replied to BobBayCityMI's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If she is unable to support the surgery, I wouldn't want her around me during it either. I tend to do things alone anyway and have figured on doing my surgery by myself as well. I do have a friend who would come with me if I asked though. -
I did cardio on elliptical today. I am easing back into it because I have asthma and bad knees. I don't want to overdo and get sick. Thanks for all the responses. Let's keep it up.

Esophagus spasms - RELIEF! YAY!
Norma replied to Finally!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your learning to cope and to be present while eating. I actually have had to have my esopagus stretched before as I could not swallow pills. They found that it was too narrow during an upper GI and stretched it during the procedure. You might want to see about that. -
Judy, I so understand what you are doing for your Mom. I went through a very life altering change of plans with my mother a few years back. We had never been close due to her emotional issues and my parents' very rocky marriage. My father committed suicide before I graduated from high school and I was his favorite. However, my mother had a multitude of health issues in her fifties (gall bladder surgery which led to finding 90% blockage of major arteries, then quadrupal bypass which led to blindness from clot during surgery, copd, stroke) etc. I left my job and moved 5 hours home to take care of her and nurse her back to health. I had another 17 months with her in which we mended our relationship and when she passed we were friends. I am still financially a bad credit risk because of the choices I made to take a year off to take care of her which is making it hard to finance my surgery, but the peace I had when she passed because of having the time to heal our relationship was worth that. I totally support your decision to take care of your mom right now. Sleeve sisters, we are and it will be fun to plan our surgeries in due time. Take care.

WASa, Are you saying that for any sleeve surgery there is insurance policy you can get for complications? Tell me more-how do you get this and how much is it?

Surgery August 10th with Dr. Aceves
Norma replied to AJW's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your sleeve date and I hope many others from here will be buddies getting sleeved at the same time. That will probably be too soon for me to get the financing together. Will look forward to hearing about your journey. -
Judy, Maybe you and I can be sleeve buddies-I haven't set my date yet but am looking for it to be in Oct. Have to find the rest of the money first. Please continue to keep us posted on your journey and I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

So great to see that you are doing well and that nothing is wrong. Hope Bearded is feeling calmer now and that his surgery is a breeze! Say Hi to the others there and keep posting:thumbup: to update us.

MexicoWeightLossSurgery.com The Facts
Norma replied to Sandy Johnson's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
rere50 & dollarsterno- I have no issue with you supporting your surgeon and having success with the surgery you chose. I welcome you to continue to post on threads that interest you. I know nothing about the two surgeons mentioned here. I find it strangel that zsflower states that she is once again trying to set something straight and yet this is her first post. Why did she change her identity? I don't think that you are "used cars"-you researched your surgeon and made your decision. I am merely saying that I mistrust people who benefit from my making a decision that lines their pockets. I don't trust zsflower. I had another surgeons' patient cooordinator email me stating she was emailing because I had not answered my phone when she tried multiple times to reach me. I am a crisis worker who is tethered to my phone. I always know and respond to it ringing. She never called. She lied. I looked for another doctor. You have your standards and I have mine. If you don't like how this board is run, start your own. I am satisfied with this one. Have a great day! -

I neither need nor want your Pity or your help. You are not posting anything on this board related to your experience as a sleever(if indeed you are one); you are not posting in any way to help me figure out if the surgery is for me or not. I don't care to hear anymore from you. I see your above statement as a pot shot at two administrators on this board who post daily their opinions, support and experience for those others of us who come here for information, understanding, and help. Do I find it strange that they post so frequently--no, I am thankful that they care enough about a topic which so evasively consumes my life. I can relate to them. I understand their purpose and appreciate them. I believe that they are compensated emotionally and authentically by their involvment on this board--not at all financially--they talk freely on the board about their real time jobs, personal struggles with weight loss, head hunger, etc. They belong here and you ???Come again, what exactly is your job and purpose on this board?-whoops- I think you said that in your signature.:scared0: Now, have I made myself perfectly clear? GO away, you are annoying and useless here. -
[QUOTE=WASaBubbleButt;5005]Ahhhh, but I didn't tell you all the other stuff I ate! I was sooooo angry! The whole entire weekend was like that, one piece of stupidity or frustration after another. I couldn't decide if I wanted to run or eat so I did both. ;o) WASa, OMG woman, we must be twins! I can not believe the similarities of your weekend with my life and the stupid mistakes that people at my work make which cause me to run around putting out fires all day! Last night after re-reading your post about getting back on track and being straight about the hard road it is to be fat and how we have to change our habits and yes, exercise--I dreamed about running on a treadmill trying to reach a bagel. Woke up at 4am to the dang alarm and went to the gym to do cardio and was so pissed about it(exercise not the bagel dream)! :scared0: I was mad half my day-not at all the stupid mistakes that my workers had made but because I am sick of being Fat and damn mad that I haven't been able to just pay for the surgery and schedule it and that I will have to exercise daily cause diabetes insulin resistence is going to ruin my life if I don't. So I went to the gym, avoided white carbs today, hungry as hell because I crave them so bad, and now will have to do it again tomorrow. Tom, my trainer, had the audacity to call me today and tell me that he enjoyed your post as well and that he wanted to see me tomorrow and that he wanted me to be happy about it rather than pissed. I told him to watch out because he is treading on thin ice around a big mad fat chick dealing with carb withdrawal.:scared0: Anyway, thank you, sister!

I have a id that allows you to keep medical information current online so that first responders have access to your info. I got it cuz I am diabetic and cuz I ride motorcycles. This little gem has come in handy because I don't have to fill out numerous questionnaires about medical history when I see new doctors--it's all accessible by my giving the person the website and my code and password. It is called RoadId.com if anyone is interested.
-
It is a bracelet or a necklace. The first responder can call the number and get the info over the phone or in email or online from putting in the code and security number from the backside of the id. A mechanical voice "reads" the info over the phone. The ones with printed info only give you 4 lines of info. That is not enough room to list my allergies alone. By getting the interactve one, I can update my medications, family contact numbers, etc anytime I want to. If I change my phone number of next of kin or change my doctor's numbers or whatever, I can make that change without have false information on the bracelet or needing to order a new one.

Hyaluronic Acid-would it help with recovery from surgery?
Norma replied to Norma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why-I'm going to have the good doctor Aceves squirt some on while he's inside!!!!! LOL:001_tt2: -
WASa, A round of applause for saying what every one of us needs to hear from time to time. In fact, it is comical that my personal trainer from 4 years ago who got me down 127 lbs of which 70 is back, called me today on why he has not seen me at the gym for the past month. (Could be that I am playing head games with myself and purposely hitting the snooze 4 times till it turns itself off every morning.) LOL Anyway, I had just read your post and so told Tom, "I'll see you at 5am". His response was "Are you just blowing smoke up my ass or are you really coming?". I told him that you had written out the motivator speech for him to use next time and that I will give him a copy of it tomorrow. So, thank you, I have been blowing smoke at myself and your heart to ass kick landed square on my Fat Posterior! See you in the gym!
