I think that's part of it! I have an Ann Klein suit (one of my favorites!) that was a size 8. It fit me perfectly. I had clothes that were a size 16 that I couldn't even get my butt into! It was crazy. I have a pair of jean shorts that, the tag says a size 20, but if I hold them up to a pair of men's pants that are a size 32, they're smaller than that. I typically wear mens jeans because i can get an inseam long enough (I have a 33 inch inseam so I go with 34's) Mens clothing sizes haven't changed because they're measured by the actual waist. There's a conversion chart somewhere of what womens clothes should be in mens' sizes, I'll have to find that.

Not Losing Anything...
circa replied to LadySookie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Take a deep breath. There have been stalls much longer than the one you're on now. There are plenty of posts on this board about stalls - you just completely changed your body and it has to have a chance to get used to it. Maybe change things up on what you're eating - go back to liquids for a few days and see if that helps. Its been hammered into our brains that a calorie in is equal to a calorie burned. That is SO NOT TRUE. Put the scale somewhere that you can't get to it for a week and see what happens. Hang in there! You know you're absolutely doing what you're supposed to, so its just your body playing catchup, would be my guess. Definitely see the doc - its always good to follow up Rooting for you!!!! -

awesome! Having grown up literally raising our own beef, I can understand what you're saying. I'm a carnivore, through and through. Everything I eat, I know where it came from and I got it from its natural state myself (save eating in restaurants). I'm a firm believer in knowing where you food comes from. I can't stand people who just think meat comes from a grocery store and not from an animal. We started out raising cattle just to feed ourselves then our herd grew out of interest from people in the community. We raise antibiotic, fully organic grass fed with local hay added beef. Every cow is what most people would consider spoiled. From the time the calf is born, to the time we thank them for what they give us and we harvest them, they are treated with the dignity they deserve. Its very important to us that its done this way. Its the same for our hunting practices. Its desperately important for us to make sure animals don't suffer when you're harvesting them and that every ounce is used in some way. Just the way I was raised. I get SICK when I see people leaving carcasses in the woods or see cows crammed into a small space. We fence our cows but they get an entire acre PER COW. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience! -
How Much Did You Lose In Month 1
circa replied to Mrs.Prisses's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
everyone is going to lose differently - thyroid issues, total weight needed to lose, how much protein you get in, etc. I'm hoping to be in the 30 lbs a month range but I know I won't be right away. Got some other stuff to deal with first. Just happy to be in line for the losers bench! -
I'm fortunate in that people in my family basically know not to argue with me. If I've made up my mind about something then I've done my research and I know what i'm doing. It doesn't mean that they like it, they just don't argue with me about it. However, i haven't told most of them because I don't feel like being the topic of conversation in their little fruitless minds. They have a tendancy to talk behind people's backs and spread rumors and cause all kinds of chaos. Not something I want my medical issues to be a part of - I learned that when I told them I had Wilson's Disease (I felt obligated since its a genetic thing, thankfully none of them have it!)

yeah I've got a 5 day liquid diet. Not too big a deal

congrats! I do have a question - are you a vegetarian by choice or is it a medical decision? I'm always curious about why people are vegetarians or vegans. Not knocking it - just a curiosity I have -
Your personal wishes should be in order at all times - whether having surgery or not. You're more likely to get hit by a bus today than die during surgery, but its always a possibility. It sounds like either they don't want you to succeed or they are just uninformed and scared. If YOU feel you're doing the right thing, that's all that matters. My fear is that your boyfriend not being supportive is going to create resentment toward him later when you are successful. Might be something to bring up to him.

Older people don't like change - and they certainly don't approve of going under the knife when its not something heart related I've found. Chalk it up to them being afraid and not understanding.

Will They Sew Me Back Up?
circa replied to kcsmicah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
this is typically what the preop diet is for. You may have to do it longer - your surgeon will let you know. That is quite high - but it can be caused by a number of different things. Please follow the preop diet and talk directly with your surgeon about this. Good luck to you! -
Advice On Realistic Goals
circa replied to dragongrl75's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think setting hard and fast goals can be self-defeating. What is your reaction going to be if you don't lose that much each month? What happens when August 21st comes around and you're still 25 or 30 lbs or more - or even less from that goal? Its important to set goals, but make them definitely reachable. Sure, its great to have something to work toward, but don't make it something that may work against you. -
always weigh in the AM, after you go to the bathroom and before you drink anything - however, remember, a woman's body weight can change from day to day by around 9 lbs just based on water retention. Muscle mass the same size as a fat mass does weigh more. 10 lbs of fat takes up more room than 10 lbs of muscle. Don't weigh every day. I'm pushing myself to actually do away with my scale for the first month. Its hard, but that's what I'm wanting to do!

I am concerned about the lack of hydration, especially since I live at a higher altitude. @Anakin Jay - put some socks on! You've worked very very hard for this!!!! Thinking of you!!!!

Am I Being Ridiculous?
circa replied to wondering1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Frankly, that's just how some people are. They settle for less than what they really want because its easier. She's healthier than she was and that's apparently ok for her. There are those of us who don't settle for walking a little ways in a marathon - we want to cross the finish line with flying colors. This woman has become complacent in her life, just as she probably did when she gained the weight. We all choose how we react to situations. She has chosen to limit herself. It is irritating because so many of us have jumped through so many flaming hoops just to get to the point where we can have surgery, we're not going to waste the opportunity that we've EARNED for ourselves. But it is her problem, not yours. You can't help those that don't want to be helped and you can't enlighten those that choose to stick their heads in the sand. I hope that you someday go back to that office for a followup and you're at your goal and you see her again and then you can say to her that YES, you can meet a goal like that! Good luck! -

Urgent - Advice Needed Please
circa replied to bratvp63's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
first of all, I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope everyone is okay. But only you can answer that - are there other people that can help you take care of these issues? If you don't feel comfortable, push the surgery back. Peace of mind will be worth the time. -

Protein - What Is It Doing Other Than Constipating Me?
circa replied to gettingtohappy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your body is missing several things, especially in the early phases - protein can make up for what you're missing. Protein is the purest and best form of nutrition - its the basis for what our body needs. It ensures that your essential body functions continue. The reason why you need "so much" is because it is the main nutrient your body gets and it just simply needs a lot of it. Not eating enough of it means that your critical needs may be met, but being short every day on what your body needs means that your skin won't heal as well, your hair can fall out, you can be fatigued, among other things. -
Need Some Advice. When Were You Allowed To Eat Bread?
circa replied to 2bfit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its amazing at how different NUT's plans are. I actually went to one that suggested eating more whole grains and then vegetables and proteins - because of the old food pyramid. I got up and walked out. I don't think eating a half a piece of toast if it sits well with you after a few weeks will ruin your sleeve, its just amazing that it IS sitting well I would try to avoid, as that bread is taking up valuable protein real-estate in your sleeve -
yes. I think you were extremely rude and unhelpful. Just because you have the account, doesn't mean you have to use it.

For someone that's leaving, you sure do post a lot. Either leave or don't - no one is going to beg you to stay here when you're as rude as you have been.

the reason some posts are "quoted" is to ensure that the proper post is recognized as being replied to. There's a purpose for the quote button, and that would be it
