  1. A FULL thyroid panel. Not just TSH, but free T3 and free T4 as well. Most docs do not check these as a standard.
  2. have you checked to see if your insurance will pay for a second bariatric surgery? Many only allow one in a lifetime, even if its with another provider. Hope yours sees that yours is necessary!
  3. try drinking your liquids warm - see if that cuts down on it?
  4. ^ | What he said! Great advice!
  5. You took the words right outta my mouth! Its about control. We're doing this to gain control! Forbidding something just makes you want it more. What will limit us on what types of food we can eat when we are fully healed is what our new bananas can handle. Pre-op, I love onions but raw onions do not like me back. I can't eat them - I get horrible stomach pains and nausea. So I don't eat them. It'll be the same after surgery - whatever doesn't love me, I just won't eat. Whatever does love me, I will eat within accpetable amounts and portions.
  6. I imagine you can! Stay safe and keep us updated that you're safe!
  7. The tegaderm bandages are a godsend if you want to shower, but horrible to remove. Its not painful to remove them, but because its attached to the skin completely, it can tug at nerve endings and cause some nausea. Best idea is to take it off in the shower, sitting if at all possible when you're allowed to
  8. I'm totally with you on that one - I'm a very irritable person when I don't feel well - I'm quiet, I don't whine, but i want to be LEFT ALONE. Likewise, whether warranted or not, I have little patience for others that don't suck it up and deal. Can't stand whining - even though it very well might be warranted! If I feel like crap and I can suck it up, others can too haha! In reality, I know that not everyone experiences pain the same way - which is why I will remove myself so as not to have a bad experience myself, but also to not create a worse experience for someone else that might get on my last nerve Its not them that's the problem, its me. I know that

    Cream Soups

That is so awesome - I have been craving my white chicken chili and I can't wait to puree that bad boy and eat it My Grandpa is on a full liquid diet because of esophageal cancer and he eats my chili that way and says its DEVINE

    I'm Preop b***h.

Yup. I'm NOT good with feeling hungry and it has turned me into a...well...b***h. Low blood sugar and no food in my belly makes for one irritable chica. Only a few more days! I keep thinking I could do just some egg beaters - it was allowed on the previous doc that I saw preop diet! *flail* But no, this doc doesn't allow it. Although I may ask him why and if it would be something he would consider adding for future patients - might help stave off cheating for a lot of people just to have that "solid" feeling. Only a couple more days of this! I can do this! Hope my husband can survive. I know I need to buy him something shiney for putting up with me haha.

    I'm Preop b***h.

yup- today was definitely not as bad as yesterday -each day gets easier.
  14. Quite familiar with the stories of the noise - that's why I've booked an outside hotel. There's nothing that wasn't already known. My concern is the medical staff and my medical treatment, not the recovery house. I know that's going to be crowded and noisy and I know i don't like that so I have made other arrangements.
  15. everyone handles pain differently. What's mild to you might be excruciating to someone else, and vice versa. If its not something that you can tolerate, definitely get with the surgeon's office and let them know that you have intolerable pain. Its NOT normal to be in pain. While there may very well not be anything "out of the ordinary" with your surgery and with healing, the pain isn't acceptable.
  16. Pre-op I think you will feel hungry I know I do. But there are ways to cope. Post-op, I don't think you'll feel the physical hunger -there's not a whole lot of room down there to be hungry anymore I am hungry - and that's my biggest fear - I was literally starved as a child out of cruelty, so it weighs on me. I've dealt with the head issues, so now its just the physical aspect of it. I'm getting through it. If I can, you can I promise, its not as bad as it sounds! One thing that works for me is to get up in the morning and drink tons and tons of Water. This makes me feel full and I postpone my Breakfast as long as possible. I move my meais to later in the day and use broths and Jello to get me through between - all of this with lots of water have really made this not so bad. I won't say its easy, but I will say its going to be worth it

    Check My Math...

absolutely there are more reasons! I don't believe in "starvation mode" per se. I think the body will do what it needs to in order to preserve itself. That's why frostbite happens on the extremities furthest from the core of the body - the core fo the body will actually keep blood away from your extremities, causing the Fluid in your flesh to freeze, preserving your core/heart/lungs. I believe measurements are more important than what the scale says. While muscle doesn't "weigh" more than fat, the matter does have a different mass. So 5 lbs of muscle will take up less room than 5 lbs of fat. Hence measuring The body knows what its doing and it will start to tell you things when it needs more - listen to your body. No two bodies will ever be the same.

    Check My Math...

If there's one thing I'm well versed on, its thyroids. Mine has little to no function right now. The hope is that with the removal of the adrenal tumors, I'll have restored thyroid function. Would certainly be nice!
  22. calcium is huge, as is B12. I would find one that you like - a liquid vitamin that perhaps you could put in a shake or something may help.
  23. one of the surgeons I spoke to when I was researching the surgery said that you could have coffee - but because of the diuretic effects, you had to replace each cup of coffee with 2 cups of water in the early stages. He said that as you were 6 months to a year out and eating regular foods and consuming a normal amount of liquids easily, you could lower that to 1 cup of coffee to an extra cup of water - just to make sure you stay plenty hydrated.

    Check My Math...

Your thyroid controls your body temperature. Low thyroid function, lower body temperature, lower metabolism is the science (insert crazy pituitary crap here) Anyway - when your body temperature is lower, you don't feel as cold because your body temperature is closer to room temperature. My normal body temp is 96.4. "standard" body temp is 98.6. Quite a difference. I'm never cold. Ever. When you get a fever, your temperature rises, you feel cold because of the greater difference between the temperature of the room you're in and your body temperature. My guess is that a lot of people's thyroid function has increased, which has increased their body temp, which has increased their metabolism. Think of a woodstove, when its heating at 300 degrees, its not burning wood as fast as if it were heating at 500 degrees.
