I'm sitting in my office with my space heater on my feet and my dog is laying in front of it hogging all the heat! I have no idea how she can stand to be so close to it! lol

Long Term Effect-Gastric Sleeve
circa replied to jewels1227's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Only in stages for the food limitations while your tummy heals. Every surgeon's post-op diet is different. For example, mine was a week of Clear liquids, a week of full liquids, mushy foods, then adding in regular foods. Not too bad Some people have way different post op diets - be sure to discuss a post op plan with your surgeon thoroughly. -
I Wish Someone Had Told Me....
circa replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think a big thing that people don't seem to realize is the stall. You're going to stall. Weightloss isn't going to be steady and even every single day, every single week, every single month Your body needs time to adjust to changes. First the surgery, then the substantial weight loss and diet change, then your body will go through different phases of adjustment - and it compensates with the "stalls". -
Long Term Effect-Gastric Sleeve
circa replied to jewels1227's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Your sleeve will decide what you can and can't eat, really. Some people have zero issues with any foods, some people find that they can't tolerate certain foods after surgery. It really just depends on your tummy -
Vsg And Getting Sick
circa replied to Shoppingbeemom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
a few days sick will not cause you to go bald. I know that it feels like an eternity when you ARE sick, but it won't have that effect. You may want to contact your doctor or your surgeon for something that can help with the nausea though - needing to get in your protein and not being able to isn't good -
Long Term Effect-Gastric Sleeve
circa replied to jewels1227's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This procedure was just recently approved (in the last 5 or so years) in the US as a single stage weight loss surgery. Previously, this was part 1 of the 2-part duodenal switch procedure. Doctors began to find out that the weightloss in the first stage was substantial enough to not perform stage 2 - the rerouting of the intestines, much like the RNY. The surgery itself has been done for other reasons for decades here in the US. Its been done all over the world for weight loss for lots of years. -
Seriously About To Give Up Food Entirely!
circa replied to Lilee84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Part of the reason you're probably having trouble with so many foods IS the dehydration. You may need to go get rehydrated if its that bad. I'd nip it in the bud before you end up admitted - a trip to the ER or to your doctor's office might be called for here - they can give you IV fluids and send you on your way with a better start! -

Ask The Person Below A Question, Answer The One Above.
circa replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in The Lounge
absolutely! Its only right! Question: If you could pick one person in history "why did you do that?" Who would you ask and what would you ask them about? -
yeah I went thru that too - had mine on my preop - but eventually the scale plummeted! That's always a nice feeling to look forward to!

oh so coordinators, just not coordinators here Gotcha -
People's self-imposed ignorance is kindof humorous to me. They have no idea how much they sound like an idiot. I typically laugh at it because you can't enlighten those that demand sitting in the dark. All you can do is nod and smile. I'm sure by the way you're talking that there's no "M.D." after your mother's name, so her opinion on your medical condition and your ability to have future children is really quite moot. I personally am the kind of person that would say "yes, I'm not going to have another grandchild, I'm afraid voluntary stupidity skips a generation and I don't want my kids to get it from you" but hey - that's just me. It really doesn't matter what you tell her - she's not going to change her mind until she decides to change her mind. Live your life, let her do the panicking and worrying.

perhaps try walking on your lunch at work? Its a start! I know its hard to get started, but its worth it - it can actually cut the exhaustion!

Can I ask where you got your information about a "nicked artery"? -

Actually, there has been a lot of talk about the "death" - and that it very well may not have happened as was told by "A lighter me" - irregardless, 1 death in a surgeon's career, while tragic for the family and the surgeon himself doesn't not make him a bad surgeon. One death does not erase hundreds and hundreds of great successful surgeries - especially when the patient's condition was unknown. There has been no medical report released to the public about the cause of death of this woman. For all I know, she had a pulmonary embolism and died from that days after surgery. Dr. Kelly is a member of FACS - you don't get there by making mistakes. -
So the area around my incisions itch - not the incisions themselves, but the areas that still have tape residue that I can't seem to get off. This is just plain torture lol. A little gold bond and I think I'll be ok

So my family wants me to write a cookbook of all of my recipes. I have a lot of custom recipes that they absolutely love. Most of them are ultra healthy but don't taste like it. Even some of my desserts are quite healthy I think I'm going to do it. I might also do a cookbook for small portions with the same recipes and others that i come up with. Might be a lot of fun I love love love to bake - but don't really eat anything I bake, other than a bite or two - then I give it all away. Holidays are fun - I send so much stuff to family and friends. I like the fact that I can still do that - and I'm going to work on altering some of my more...rich recipes to be more healthy and smaller portions.

Well for me, I did run and work out every day - then I got sick and was basically bed-ridden and then put on huge amounts of steroids which actually made me sicker. Other people have had food addictions that, like ANY other addiction has taken priority over exercising and other activities. The thing about food addiction that makes it a MILLION times harder to kick than any other addiction is that you can't quit cold turkey - you can't really 'DETOX' because you need food to survive. That's where the sleeve and a lot of internal work come in. Can I ask why you aren't able to exercise?

I'm not far enough out to really "hit it hard" but I do make sure I walk for at least an hour every day. That will increase to circuit training and jogging as soon as I'm able.

good luck! There's plenty of room on the losers bench! Things are so much different on the other side - while the diet is pretty much the same for the first week post op, its actually quite satisfying because you're not really hungry. What hunger you do have, the broth completely takes care of. Good luck and let us know how it all goes!

Just Got Sleeved.... And The Scale Is Not Moving Yet?
circa replied to imknothatgirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You're 4 days post-op. You know all those bags of IV's they dumped into you? Those all need to come out still. Your body tissue is swollen from being poked and prodded in. Your body is adjusting to the changes - its not going to be all that ready to let go of anything excess until it starts to heal. its quite normal to not have lost anything yet - and even normal to have actually gained. Ditch the scale for at least a week. Oh and dont' panic if you get your period and the scale goes up again - totally normal. Just get your liquids in - once your body realizes that you're going to keep giving it what it needs, it'll give up all the excess. Just be prepared to pee a lot! Make sure you have plenty of toilet paper in the bathroom! haha -
One of the things that can happen when you have trauma when being overweight, is that the injury doesn't heal because of the weight affecting the weakened area. So yes, your doctor is probably correct that your weight has a lot to do with it. Those injuries can heal a whole lot faster when there's no stress of excess weight on them.
