  1. Ok, I had my first fill on sept 29th, My surgery was in April 07. Been doing great, when I feel a little pressure sometimes I know that is all I can eat. But tonight not sure what happened, maybe too fast or too much at once. But it felt like the food was stuck, my chest hurt, I broke out into a sweat, was spitting up, burping and then finally kind of threw up some mucus. It was terrible, i felt terrible, it really hurt. It felt like I was foaming at the mouth I am scared I may have done something to my band, I feel fine now, it took about 20 min to pass. How do I know if I am ok, if my band is ok? Just want to make sure , I am going to start timing my bites after this one. Has anyone else experienced this? Please share your thoughts. Thanks Lost_secret Surgery April 24th Down 69 pds 20.25 inches

    Slimed? PB'd Help me understand

So sorry for your loss. The biggest thing is making sure you get your Protein in that will help you lose the weight and feel fuller and feel better and have more energy. something I use is called IDS New whey protein it has 42 grams of protein per 3.1 oz vile, you can order them online or get them at the Vitamin store. I highly recommend them. I had alot of restriction during my first 3 months even without a fill, didnt really feel that hungry and lost quite a bit of weight. I havent had any problems until yesterday, You might want to go back and start over with liquids for a couple of days then go to mushies and see how those work out, and make sure you eat slowly and chew alot, the key once you start eating real food is to eat slowly and chew really good. In my mushie stage I ate alot of refried Beans mixed with rice (high fat) but high protein. And still choose those when I am out and about and feel hungry. Good luck to you , and read through the post on here they are very helpful, if you go to the food one they have alot of really good examples. But remember protein, protein, protein. Lost_Secret

    Before and after fill rules

I just had my first fill Friday, I was terrified, but it went well. They didnt tell me not to eat before or after. I can tell a difference but nothing too bad, the first couple of times I ate I tried to eat too fast and felt that pressure. But I have the hang of it now. Glad to have it so I can keep on losing. Good luck to all Lost_secret

I have so much energy and desire to lose weight. I am worried about my loose skin, I have heard lots of exercise should help the skin tighten up. I need help with any suggestions of the best type of exercise to do. 10 weeks since surgery and down 60.5 pds YIPPIE I started at 325. Thanks Lost_secret

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

I had my surgery April 24th, when I went to the doctor two weeks ago , I had lost 49.5 pds. YAY! I started at 325 so now at 275.5. I have mini goals of Sept first 250, and by Jan 1st 199. My doctor didnt give me a fill the first time because I had averaged almost 2 pds per week in my 2nd month. Still trying to get my butt in gear and exercise. What types of things did everyone start with? Gotta get motivated to move. Good luck to everyone Lost_Secret

    Desperately need some help

Glad you are doing better. I had a great deal of restriction at first, so I made sure I set used 1 oz med cups and a timer which I set for 5 min, and made sure I took a drink each time then reset it, so it made about 1 oz every 15 min. which will help you get your liquids in. I also used my liquid protein, whey protein clear that taste like orange and fruit punch from the vitamin store, so that also helped me get my protein in. This worked great for me, I had a great deal of restriction until about 1 month out now I can eat anything just not very much of it, I go next week to be checked and for my first fill if needed. I was banded on 4/24 and I am down 45 pds. Keep positive and try the med cup and timer, I think that is what really helped me Good luck Lost_Secret

    post-op overeating

Well I am 1 month out, I have been doing well, I havent weighed myself in 2 weeks, I decided to only weigh myself at the doctors visits. Up until about 1 week ago I had no hunger pains, the Water and the liquid Protein worked great. But then I started on Mushies, and now regular food. I am not eating alot but yet I feel it is more than I should be able to. The other day I ate a medium baked potato, when I was almost finished I started to feel the tightness. I ate steak , green Beans and a tablespoon of mac & cheese for supper last night maybe 2 oz of steak and 2 tbs of the green beans. It seems like so much ( much less than before the band) but how much is the right amount. How many calories should I have per day? and how much fat or carbs is too much? I know 60 of protein that I am good on, as I drink a Liquid Protein with my water that equals 42 grams of protein, I drink half in the a.m. and half in the p.m. But I need a # of calories, fats and carbs to work with. I dont want to do this wrong and eat too much or too little as I want it to work. Any help would be great. I love this site, it has made my journey from my first thought of lapband so much easier. Thanks Lost_Secret

    Frustrated and confused!

I kind of felt the same, my nutrionist didnt have a clue about the lapband requirements, she kept saying things for the gastric and I would correct her because of what I had read and things I had found out on here. Then my doctor would confirm that I was correct. I started with a bmi of 55% in Feb, then through the pre op diet requirements I lost 5 pounds in 3 months, did what I had to to get her to say ok, you lost some weight good job and say yes I could be a good candidate. (If I could do it on my own like that then I wouldnt have needed the surgery) Then the 2 week pre-op diet I lost 17 pds. So that really helped. My doctor still had a tough time doing the surgery so much belly fat getting in the way. But I have done great , no complications, no pain, 1 month out today (YAY) and down a total of 40lbs ( but I havent weighed myself in 2 weeks) I decided I would only weigh myself at my doctors appointments ) I have heard that with the band you lose slower so I think they think if we have that high of a bmi we might get discouraged if we dont lose it fast like the bypass. But I can lose it slow as long as I lose, that is something I wasnt able to do before. I am so glad I went with the band, go with what you feel comfortable with, dont let anyone change your mind, do your homework and figure out what works for you . I am so glad I had it done. 13. :help: i am having a hard time getting my protein, everything taste so sweet and yucky any suggestions?
  14. well i am home and feeling kind of funny, not really hungry and the Protein and sf pops taste sooooooooo sweet yuck. but feeling pretty good, back hurts a little and pretty tired, but feeling good. Lost_secret
  15. I have been very lucky with very minimal pain. But I am having a hard time drinking enough, I drink my Protein I found some that has 42 g per 3.1 oz which I mix with Water. But can barely do 1oz in 15 min otherwise it feels like it is clogged and need to burp. so I have got my protein in , but falling short of my 64 oz each day, not that I am not trying I would like to go to full liquids but am kind of scared and need to make sure I get my protein in, and I am not sure if I will be able to do anything more as the water makes me feel like that. Did anyone else experience this? My doc did have a hard time doing my band because I have a great deal of belly fat, so he did say it was much harder to do my surgery. I am wondering if it might be my stomach is just still so swelled from the surgery and this will soon stop feeling like this. I read of people who eat actual food and I just dont see how that is even in my future the way I feel now. Please give me some insight. Thanks Lost_Secret

    ginger13

I was banded on the 24th, I am 4 days post-op. Pain wise I have done great, a little after my first walk, and another after I started using the spectometer. And even those were low doses, being a 2-3 on the pain scale. Other than that no pain other than alittle discomfort around my incisions, no bigge at all. I have found I have no appetite, so far I am drinking my water and my protein, which is hard but I must do it and do. I do feel a little strange ,but good and looking forward to losing weight and feeling a little more normal, all part of the healing process. I was faithful on my pre-op diet for my 6 required days whicn helped me lose 17 pds. Good Luck Lost_Secret

i am trying bene Protein that my doc gave me, i have a few others to try.i have some eas protein and the testtube from Vitamin store. thanks
  20. well i have been banded for two whole days!! at riverside, my doc put me on a Protein liquid diet for 6 days before. i lost 17 pds in that time period, i consider that my running start. plus 6 pds from my first nutrionist appt., but before the protein diet, i kinda went crazy most of the time, eating things i thought i would never get to eat again.......crazy huh. i am 44,divorced with 1 wonderful teenage daughter. struggled with weight all of my life. my biggest weight of 325 on my first nutrition appt in feb 06. everyone in my family has been great and supporting my decision. i am hopeful this is my answer, it is funny even a sf popsicles tasted sweet and i dont really feel hungry, although just today my stomach is growling. i have had an easy time of it and not much pain at all, all of the nurses were shocked. feeling good and on my way, but feeling confused about what to drink, other than 60g of protein, it is like i forgot everything they told me. so suggestions are welcome. thanks lost_secret (all lower caps because i am feeling lazy:)):clap2:
  21. I lost 17 pds in 6 days and I am so glad I did, it was my running start, plus my doc had such a difficult time doing the surgery because I carry a great deal of my weight in my stomach if my liver hadnt been shrunk down so much he may have had to do open. Plus it felt good to know I am already 17 pds toward my goal. good luck Lost_Secret

    The Bullet

I have read on a couple of the post about a bullet machine that purees food?!? Can anyone tell me what it is and where I can get one. I want to be ready. Thanks Lost Secret
  23. Well I have less than 24 hours til surgery. I am excited, can't wait to start losing weight and being healthier. I have been faithful on my pre-op diet so I am curious as to how much I lost this week. I am looking at this last week as a running start . Any and all suggestions and helpful tips for my post op first few days would be great. I am on Clear liquids until I am home from the hospital and then on liquids for 3 weeks, which means foods thinned down enough so it slides off of a spoon. Wish me luck Lost_Secret:clap2:
  24. Wow, so many mixed emotions, I was fine the last 2 days I had my filter put in and started my Liquid Protein diet. Then last night and today I have thought food, wow can I do this, what a change, will I be hungry after, will I ever eat real food again. ( like I am losing my best friend who listens to all my problems) But then I log on to here and I read such powerful positive information and comments and I am excited to be finally making this change in my life , to keep my life and actually live my life. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone on here for sharing the good and the bad. It is wonderful. Thanks Lost_secret

    going crazy pre op?

I am scheduled for the 26th, tommorrow I start on a 6 day liquid protein diet. So I have been picking my favorite foods and eating them. Like the sweet stuff, those I dont ever want to have again, even though I love them, I have decided to love myself more. Today I am eating anything that sounds good, because tommorrow my life will be about Eating to Live, not Living to Eat. I am soooooooo excited and also a little scared. But I am ready, good luck .
