Gastric Reflux Post Op... A Survey

@@rhfactor272 Please consider the fact that it is well known now days that GERD can and usually does get worse post op. I am almost 4 years post op and it took years before it got to this point. Of course it is always your personal decision at the end of the day though. All the best with your journey.

    Am I experiencing dumping syndrome?

Hi @@menjaz - yes you absolutely can have dumping with the sleeve. I still get it, and honestly its a nice tool to have. It can help you learn to eat better. Good luck!

    Blood in sick

@@crittyc exactly how much fresh blood did you see? A little spot or more? If it happens again then I would say go to the Emergency and if you do make sure to tell them you just had bariatric surgery. I hope you're feeling better soon.

    Trying to decide--Bypass or Sleeve?

@@PdxMan It seems that majority of sleeved people with prior GERD end up with worse symptoms over time, as the stomach is small and the acids are still as active as they were when the stomach was a normal size. Most Surgeons will not recommend the Sleeve to someone with prior GERD problems anymore. I of course can't explain the curing of GERD post op Sleeve, there are always exceptions to every rule.

    Trying to decide--Bypass or Sleeve?

I recommend a Pro's and Con's list. No one's opinion should make you lean one way or another, of course everyone will tout their choice as the best. But you need to consider any prior health problems you have pre surgery to make a good decision for yourself. Such us, do you have reflux problems? Then the Sleeve is a very poor choice for you. Do you have problems with Vitamins and anemia? Then Bypass may not be your best choice. Good luck.

    revision

Hi @@Felisity it turns out the best cure for GERD is revising to the Bypass. I will need a revision no matter what, but I'm def going to revise to the Bypass since I would like to be gone with reflux too. It's really awful!
  10. Me... As of a whole month ago now. That said, it will be the best decade of my life. As you were.

I'm very glad to see that the results are showing GERD is either cured or much less than before. It's an awful thing to have.

    Shiritaki Noodles?

One last thing, their consistency is not Pasta like. That's why I sautee them, it loosens them up. They're more rubbery but I don't mind it, I like them.

    Shiritaki Noodles?

I'm years out from surgery so me being able to eat them without issue will be much different than other responses. I actually really like them and I found them at Walmart. They smell a bit fishy so you will want to rinse them thoroughly before using. They are really really long too so in that case I like to cut them shorter before cooking. I pan sautee them with EVOO and lots of garlic and it kills the rest of the smell and minor bland flavor, then it takes on the flavor of whatever you cook into it. It's def acquired, you will get many different answers. Lots of people don't like them.

    Vain not vein question

@@LisaRu yes there are many people who lose weight and the stretched skin on the face deflates and leaves wrinkles. The problem is that everyone is different so there's no for sure way to find out if you will until you hit goal. I didn't have wrinkles, in fact looked a decade younger. Nothing wrong with wanting to look nice and attractive, just my opinion. I hope it works out for you and if not, that's what fillers or plastic surgery is for!

    Beer is my problem.

Beer is a really bad idea for many reasons, but mainly carbonation and empty calories that our body processes into sugar. If you want an excellent answer then please consult your surgeon. Who knows they might say one beer per month is ok... Good luck to you.

    Tired

Yes it sounds like you need more protein in your liquid diet. Unjury has a great tasting Chicken soup flavor and no flavor protein powder you can pretty much add to anything you are eating.

    Am I experiencing dumping syndrome?

Yes it sure sounds like dumping, I still get it myself at nearly 4 years out. Not nearly as much but I still do. In the beginning I'd get sick on pretty much anything that was high fat or sugar, even eating too many carbs at one sitting. I found it to be a good thing personally. I'm also glad it still happens to me too.

All liquid ounces you are drinking during the day count toward your daily goal.
