JULY 2014 Post Op Rny / Bypass Support Group

I have to do the liquid diet for 2 weeks pre-op. They make everyone do it, even tho I don't need to lose even close to what other people need to lose. Mines a revision but they're still making me do it. *sigh* but I will because I follow directions. Good luck to all! July is only 1 week away!!

Is it safe to dye my hair? (6 months post opt)

I think dying hair is damaging to the cuticles and ends so if you're really worried then wait a little longer. That said, I have dyed my hair several months post op and I don't think it made my hair loss any worse than if I hadn't dyed my hair. Good luck.

    Disturbing Email

So many people do have real and credible complications from surgery. I think it's a little unnecessary to put them in the "crazy" category, they are only sharing their life experience. It is a hard decision to make, but just make sure you're making the right one for yourself.
  7. I'm starting my Pre-Op liquid diet today, even though I don't need to start until Wednesday.

    out of control.

You will be able to anything you want post op eventually. I highly suggest you not do that to yourself, you're only adding extra pounds to lose after that you don't have to. Good luck to you, none of this is easy. Love yourself enough to NOT binge until surgery day.

    What is your dream job?

@@nerms - you have gained my respect, what a wonderful thing you want to do! Mine is more simple, I want to make millions by doing nothing. but since that's probably not in the cards for me I'm actually quite happy with my career right now. It gives me tons of free time to do what I enjoy. Getting my education and communicating with like minded folk. I do plan to write some books and educate people on WLS and proper eating, but at this time there's no money in that. So in order to live comfortably I need a steady income and my job now more than provides that.
  11. I did keep my sleeve surgery quiet for a few months because everyone knew about my lap band and I didn't want to discuss having a revision. I doubted anyone would understand - but eventually I told everyone who asked how I was losing the weight. I always said I had WLS and I eat healthy and workout. Some people would ask me more, some wouldn't. I guess I'm just always very confident in all the choices I make and I welcome a challenge when someone speaks negatively about it. I go out of my way to discuss it with them, and I'm proud to say there is only one person who's mind I was never able to change. I'm okay with that, she's entitled to her opinion and she's a nice lady. That said, telling or not is def a personal choice. I don't typically partake in those posts because I can only see it my way which is "own it" like the OP said. I know lots of great WLS folks who don't talk about it to their family & friends and I still adore them just as much if they did.

    I hate this site :(

Life is extremely frustrating Pre-Op and immediately Post-Op. Every single Dr. on earth is also only human and they are going to use their personal life experiences on what they feel works best for their own patients, and it might not even be similar to another Dr - or there might be some variations and similarities to how they feel. Such as I'm sure every surgeon will tell you to Drink Your Water. Things like that. The only REAL advice for which you should follow exactly is the one your surgeon has provided you. Otherwise listening to opinions of others on the internet will get you down and you might even get sick. You certainly don't want that, but I also want to point out everyone chiming in is only doing so out of a good place, they don't want to see anyone hurt themselves. If you need a break for a little while take one, I know I do that sometimes. But I have to tell you that getting all the support you can get will far more benefit you than not. Good luck!

  15. Wow! Someone just shared this website with me. Apparently this Medical Center does Plastic Surgery. While the surgeons are finishing up their training they perform plastic surgery for much less than other surgeons. Now, I always ALWAYS advise anyone to do your homework before choosing any surgeon to do any surgery on your body - but just wanted to throw this hat out in the ring for anyone looking around. I plan to look more into it when the time gets closer. I've saved the website in my favorites... Here's the link...

On top of BGP great suggestions, get your Iron (ferrous sulfate) however you can. Find them in chews or liquid form. Repeat always take your supplements, especially Daily Multi's / Iron / B-12 and get plenty of Water. Minimum 64 oz per day. If you are especially concerned it wouldn't hurt to call your surgeon. Good luck!
