Why didn't I get the Rny Bypass first?

I know many very successful sleevers. It is a really great tool if you work the program properly. I did make and surpass my original goal but never was able to completely get my blood pressure in control. I also went in with GERD and at the time is was not as widely known the sleeve would make it worse. If you're considering the sleeve keep doing that, especially if your surgeon feels it's your best option! You two make the decision together. Ask your surgeon why s/he feels that way. Ask them to go into detail the differences. I believe the sleeve on a virgin stomach and no issues with reflux is a great decision. =) But if your Surgeon suggests the Bypass don't be afraid to do it. It is a saving grace and as long as you stay the course your dreams of health will happen.

JULY 2014 Post Op Rny / Bypass Support Group

I am on the edge of 2 weeks post op. Things are going good. I got a little infection on my drain incision but the antibiotics are helping some. Other than that I really can't complain about much of anything. My Sleeve surgery was way worse for me. I feel good, upbeat and not one time have I felt the buyers remorse. I felt that for 2 months post op with my sleeve. My GERD is completely gone!!! I am also being weaned off my high blood pressure meds already. Exactly what I dreamed of!!! Yay!!!
  5. 2 Weeks POST OP and I feel great and just today and only 2 weeks out my Dr. has taken me off my blood pressure meds. YAY!!

    Sleeve to Bypass, Anyone?

Yes I am just two weeks out from my revision from Sleeve to Bypass. I am doing excellent! No more reflux, and healing is going as planned minus one tiny setback, but is being remedied. Nothing major. I feel great and just today and only 2 weeks out my Dr. has taken me off my blood pressure meds. YAY!!

10 Days post op and I'm doing fantastical. Haha At home healing, sipping and relaxing. Today is the first day I'm being left all alone all day. I admit it's kinda nice. My Nut already has me on soft meats such as chicken, turkey or tuna (haven't tried yet) or eggs. It has to be ground and easily able to mash with a fork. It has been going good. I only eat about 2 tablespoons at a sitting, but ultimately I make up for my proteins with shakes. I feel really good! How is everyone else? New post ops? Pre ops, good luck to you!!
  8. Hey y'all!! 10 days post op and I'm feeling fine. Resting, healing and sipping all day long. Just started to chew food again as of yesterday and I will be on this plan for the next 2 weeks.

JULY 2014 Post Op Rny / Bypass Support Group

@jaysweet im do sorry for your complications. I hope your on the mend now!
  11. And I am so ready for it. Sick of being sick and tired of being tired. Reflux keeping me up at night and coughing like a chain smoker all day, it gets in the way of my health, and soon it would get in the way of my life. It's not a risk I'll take at all so into the surgery room I go like a strong woman that I am. I'm hopeful my recovery will only be 3 weeks, I want to get back to work ASAP. I'm looking forward to feeling like my old self again, energized and ready for the day! Carpe Diem!
  12. We all know that hindsight is 20/20. Is there something along the way to surgery or perhaps something about the surgery that you wish you could change if you knew better? I don't necessarily mean having surgery in general, it can be anything, for example you wish you would have lost more weight pre-op or followed your post op diet better... anything! For myself I wish I could go all the way back to 2008 and when my surgeon tried to convince me to get the gastric bypass instead of the lap band, I wish I would have just gone with the bypass. If I knew then that I would end up with a bypass anyway due to many complications along the way, of course I'd rather have had only one surgery instead of now 3. Please maintain a respectable point of view to all responses, thanks.
  13. @@cbk you're lookin at her! I had a lapband in 2008, revised to sleeve in 2010 and now I'm revising to bypass tomorrow.

  18. For face moisturizing/cleaning I only wash with dove soap and exfoliate with apricot scrub. I use L'Oreal face cream with collagen and it helps a lot. I don't think I look too bad for being 40 years young. Makeup I use only L'Oreal from the drug stores but I do prefer either Shiseido or Estee Lauder and of course I love Chanel anything. Have fun! You only live once.
  19. It's time for one of my crazy questions again! Yes I like stirring the pot, I like to know what people think or how they approach any situation that most of us will come to someday. For those who are experiencing this situation, are your family and friends telling you not to lose anymore weight? Do you still have some weight to lose according to the BMI? Are you taking their advice under consideration, or are you going to make your healthy weight goal? What does your surgeon think? Sometimes our visions of ourselves can be greatly skewed by being super obese for so long, so it's possibly difficult to realize when we should stop losing weight or if we really should lose more. Of course the only person you should really listen to is your surgeon or weight loss staff in that respect. No matter what, always remain healthy mentally and physically.
  20. 3 more working days until my revision from sleeve to bypass. Wow... that's so crazy!

@@Jack yay you made the spotlight!! You've always been one of my favorites. Good for you.
  22. I know this has to be on everyone's mind, their final results. I did get very, very small post op VSG. I got down to a size 0... though my goal was only to get to a size 8. I said I'd be happy to be out of the double-digit pants (a very far cry from my largest size 28W!!) and honestly never imagined even getting that small. But I did and I blew right past a size 8. I kept telling myself that I never wanted to get too skinny, but I won't lie - the smaller I got the more I liked it. It's no secret I've gained some back, but now that I'm back on track I know I won't mind getting back into my size 0's again. In fact I have them hanging up outside my closet ready to be re-worn. I'm not that far away, time passes and pounds melt away. How do you feel about getting "skinny"? Do you want to? It's okay to be open about it, we're all thinking the same things believe it or not. No matter which surgery we've individually had, we do all share majority of the same shames and struggles as each other.

JULY 2014 Post Op Rny / Bypass Support Group

IT'S JULY!! Wow it got here really fast! Anyone having surgery today, God bless and fast healing. Mine is on the 9th... it's so close wow! Tomorrow will be exactly one week.
  24. For anyone who has followed me knows that I've surely had many ups, downs, complications, BUT I also had the blessing of celebrating many victories along the way. I would NEVER trade any of those victories to give back any of my complications. I believe with all my heart that if I did not have WLS(s) I would be one of those folks showcased on My 600Lb Life. I would be very super obese, and living a miserable, unhappy and worse, unhealthy existence. I was already well into the 300's by the time I was in my 20's. I was headed for disaster! The most sad fact is, I probably wouldn't even be here right now typing all of this out. I might have been stroked out by now, as I was diagnosed with HBP at 31 years old, and I had an uncle who died from complications of that disease when he was only 44. I'm turned 40 in December. I would probably not even be alive... as scary a thought as that is. I am forever thankful to myself that I loved me enough to do whatever it took to save me. How about you? How do you think your life would have played out if you didn't have your WLS?
