I had my surgery on Dec. 27th and I feel like I've done really well. No real pain, stiches look good, no nausea, feeling good. Then I came back to work today. I felt good most of the morning but I spend alot of time on my feet and standing and walking. And now it feels like the muscle that my port is attached to is on fire! I'm sure I just need to sit down and let it relax, but boy oh boy, not pleasant!

First Day Back To Work
MistyfortheMountain replied to MistyfortheMountain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work at an elementary school also with developmentally delayed 3-5 year olds. They don't let you sit very much! LOL I had a problem with my bra earlier in the week and had bought some very unflattering but comfortable sports bras to wear for a while. So at least that wasn't a problem. Good luck to all of us heading back out into the fray again tomorrow. And stay warm!! -
Is your weight loss surgeon morbidly obese?

My doctor's partner has had the lap band himself and all the office staff that I have talked to have had it also. -
First Day Back To Work

This sounds like exactly what I need. Seems I jiggle too much! I wish I would have seen this earlier, I would have gone to the store and gotten one. -
First Day Back To Work
MistyfortheMountain replied to MistyfortheMountain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all the support. No one at work knows about my surgery so it's nice to just get some feed back from people who understand. There's no option to take more time off so I am just pacing my days the best I can. I am home now with my feet up and a cup of hot tea. Feeling much better! I'm sure it's just that muscle wall that the port is stitched to getting irritated with too much moving around. A hot shower and a good night's sleep and hopefully tomorrow will be better.. -
Getting banded tomorrow!

Mine was done outpatient, I think it's nice you get to stay overnight. Take the time to rest and plan your new life! -
Surgery in the morning!
MistyfortheMountain replied to MistyfortheMountain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure you will do great Diva. I was nervous also when it came right down to the wire. But I'm feeling better and better every day. I even ate a couple of egg noodles out of the turkey noodle soup I made today. -
I feel like I'm ready. I've been reading the forum and feel like I have a good idea of what to expect. I bought a heating pad and gas-x strips. I even have 2 quarts of won ton broth in the fridge. So why am I so nervous? This is the second surgery I've ever had. The first was a tubaligation (sp?), so not a big deal. I guess if the EKG or blood work came back saying I wouldn't survive the anesthesia, they would have let me know. I am just nervous. About both the surgery and the first week after. I just want to wake up and be feeling good and in the mushy stage.

How are YOU ringing in the new year?
MistyfortheMountain replied to KristinaRnY's topic in The Lounge
We live in the country with about 6 houses on our road. So we are all getting together and having a bonfire. Everyone brings a dish and what ever you want to drink. Then walk home. -
Ticker question
MistyfortheMountain replied to LI Lady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used the number before my pre op diet. I figured the morning I started my liquid diet was the start of my journey so that morning I took what I consider to be my starting weight. -
Cavities at my Dental Appointment

Good advise! Thanks! -
In addition to coffee and tea I drink Vitamin Water. I feel like I am killing 2 birds with one stone. Getting in my water and hopefully the vitamins will help me avoid things like hair loss.

Surgery in the morning!
MistyfortheMountain replied to MistyfortheMountain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am feeling better and better each day. Both my surgeons office and the hospital where I had my surgery done called me today to check on me and see how I was feeling. I thought that was so nice. I was feeling so good I thought I would get up and go to the store for some sugar free jello and a sports bra. I can't wear any of the bras I have, they all rub my very top incision and trust me, this is not something you want to see unrestrained. LOL We live out in the country so it is a 20 minute trip each way into town. I went straight there and straight back, and I was exhausted. I guess maybe I'm not quite as healed as I thought, but definitely better each day. -
Being Banded on Friday
MistyfortheMountain replied to KSteele's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for asking Slinkielovin. Friday was pretty rough. The nurse told my husband that the anesthesiologist got a little heavy handed. She had several of us coming out of surgery feeling nauseous and having trouble getting awake. I felt rough Friday but a little better yesterday and better yet today. I am surprisingly hungry! Muscles are sore and my insides feel like they've been rearranged but that is getting better. My stomach is growling and rumbling and I get the occasional hiccup which is unpleasant, but over all, I'm on the mend! -
Surgery in the morning!
MistyfortheMountain replied to MistyfortheMountain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys! Thank you so much for the words of encouragement. I made it to the other side! Whew, it is painful over here. LOL Doing my walking and sipping and I do feel better this morning than I did yesterday when I got home. Yesterday pain was in my back and chest, air I assume. Today I still have that pain but it is lessened and I actually have pain in my stomach. Like when you are super hungry. I can hear my stomach gurgling and I have hiccupped twice. Ouch! I hope this stage goes away soon! Oh, and I have no voice! -
Being Banded on Friday
MistyfortheMountain replied to KSteele's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi KSteele! I'm being banded tomorrow also! Friday 12/27 I had to start my liquid diet 2 weeks ago though. Lucky you. The good news is I've lost 15 pounds. I'm really nervous about tomorrow, are you? Well, I'm off to bed. See you on the other side! -
Pre Op Nausea
MistyfortheMountain replied to MistyfortheMountain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really appreciate the replies and advice. I figured out that my blood sugar was dipping too low. I take 2 metformin morning and night so I have cut it down to 1 today and feel so much better. My blood sugars are still low but not low enough to make me sick. I may have to cut them down further if they dip low again like that though. I think my body must have run through my glucose reserves after 10 days on protein drinks and broth. That is a horrible feeling I hope to avoid it again. -
I'm in my 9th day of pre op consisting of Protein shakes and broth. After the first couple of days I have actually done Ok with it. Until today. I woke up feeling sick to my stomach and I have felt sick to my stomach all day. It is sometimes better than others but has not gone away all day. Has anyone else experienced this and if so how long does it last?

I went last week to see the dietitian and the psychologist. They both seemed to think I had done my homework and was ready for surgery. When I dropped off my paperwork at my surgeons office, I asked if I could schedule in the 2 week period that the school district is off for Christmas. That way I wouldn't have to take any time off of work. She penciled me in for Dec. 27th! That works out perfect for me. I have the family over to my house for Christmas and I won't have to worry about recovering while planning for a big family holiday. I also plan on only telling 2 people at work, so this way I won't have to lie about why I need a couple of days off. I will just play it all off as another New Years Diet. Now I just pray the insurance approval comes through and they can write my name in ink for the 27th of December. Merry Christmas to me!

Proud of myself!

I would love some cream soups! Soooo tired of broth. Went to my grandsons band concert tonight. Of course everyone went to Arby's afterwards. My favorite fast food place! I had to sit and watch everyone eat while I had a diet pepsi. This is hard hard hard!!! -
Today was day three of my 2 week liquid pre surgery diet. I debated on whether I should go to the Christmas party for my work but decided to go ahead and go. As I expected there was food everywhere and I had a glass of diet coke. Yea me!! Now I'm going to just go to bed and try not to think about being hungry.

No solids? I thought you were allowed vegs. Some doctors are more strict than others. Mine is a stickler. But I am trying to be really good because I know for a fact that my liiver is fatty and i dont want it to affect my surgery. I do plan on cheating on Christmas day. Just a little. -

Pre-made bottles. They come in chocolate and vanilla. I don't think they are too bad. The chocolate tastes like sf pudding cups and the vanilla is a little thicker and very vanilla. I like them. Although I would rather not have them for EVERY meal! -

I'm drinking Premium Protein from Sam's Club. They have 160 calories, 5 carbs, 1g of sugar and 30g of protein. My doctor had shakes he wanted me to buy but these actually had better stats than his so he let me use them instead. -

Well, another day done without cheating. I went to my local Chinese take out this afternoon and bought 2 quarts of wonton Soup without the won tons. It is so much better than the canned broth. That or my taste buds have starved to death!
