  1. Oh god I was feeling so bad and worried and now I can see I'm not the only one. I have a 14cc band and only had my first fill (4.4cc) a week ago. At first I thought the fill must have not given me any restriction as I was able to eat just a day later and I have eaten big meals too. I know it sounds crazy but a few times I even forgot I had a band on. Yesterday I didn't eat or drink all day as I was so busy with the wedding (my brother got married on Monday) and as I gulped my dinner down (dry chicken n rice dish), I got an acute pain in my chest as if the food was stuck half way to my stomach. I had a feeling of needing to throw up but couldn't. That was only after eating about four or five big spoonfuls. I was in shock n panic. I grabbed some coke and thought I'll either vomit or it will go down but at least I won't be in pain. The food went down. I wish it hadn't. We had a family meal for lunch today n I kept reaching for the diet coke so that the food would go down n I could enjoy the meal with everyone else. Then I did the same for dinner. I am getting frightened of myself now. I paid for this surgery as I wanted to lose weight. I looked at the wedding pics and they make me hate myself even more. I have stopped weighing myself. I am scared that if I find out I have put on weight I will give up completely like I used to when dieting in the past. I promise myself to be good from tomorrow. I have to do this for myself. I can't keep risking a band slippage or any other complications. I won't be able to forgive myself as there is no one else I could blame. I am so afraid right now as I didn't think that I wouldn't be able to control myself and behave this way. I am afraid I will do this again. I hope I won't allow myself. Could someone give some harsh warnings about what I have done to discourage me from repeating this please.
  2. You have had a tough time. Hope it's finally over and you may start afresh and positive after this surgery. All the best and keep us posted!

  4. Hi everyone. About a week or so post op I started getting a single hiccup, sometimes up to three times a day and some days I don't get it at all. It's such an odd thing for me. It doesn't happen immediately after I have eaten, perhaps up to an hour after. I am currently 4 weeks post op and have started on solids. Any ever experienced this/ could shed some light please?

    Hiccups

Thnx everyone for sharing. I still think mine is a little odd cause I don't get it while I'm eating, but sometime after I have stopped.

I've got the "mushy" stage blues....

Ughhh! Try white fish like cod with mash potato instead with some nice sauce.

I've got the "mushy" stage blues....

I hated that stage so much, l also stuck to liquids most of the time, until I tried fish pie (topped with mash and even blended with a bit of milk is nice), curried lentils (over cooked so that it's very soft and curried mince with lots of sauce. I was enjoying these so much, they are so filling and satisfying, I thought I would put on weight but I actually lost. The most disgusting thing is blended chicken yuck!

    Hiccups

Sojourner I think that may be the reason why I get mine too. Perhaps I'm eating too quickly and the food is taking a while to go down? I'll be more careful from now on. Thnx 4 sharing

Hit the 50lb Mark! 3 Month Post Op

Congrats! Ur success is inspiring! U look fabulous
  12. When I used to feel like that I would remind myself that I would be in control after four weeks and plan on sampling all the bad foods I could think of, in smaller portions. You haven't given away all control, you still are in control, although you will have to be careful how you eat and the amounts of whatever it is that you choose to eat.

    Depressed

Do go for short walks a few times daily. It is initially uncomfortable and tiring but it is great for circulation and helps with the pain. I remember the pain from my main incision, I couldn't move in bed, turn abruptly or bend down. It used to be constantly aching. It didn't feel much better until after about 10 days. It is still painful sometimes even now, almost 4 weeks post op, especially when I turn in bed whilst trying to sleep.

    Depressed

I was advised to take my fluids in half cupfuls at a time, as many times as possible and only sips of it for the first few days. Why not give this a try? I was asked to even dilute yoghurt or custard with skimmed milk. I never had bowel movement until 8/9 days post op and when I did, I thought the strain would have caused my band to slip!!! If you follow your post op eating, or should I say, drinking procedure? well, you should not have to worry about your band slipping. You will soon feel better, promise x

    Pre-Op Diet Tips

My BMI was 42 and I made my appointment for my surgery only four days prior. I was reassured that it didn't really matter, I should just have a 800-1200 calorie diet until surgery, that in reality, the liver takes three months to actually shrink considerably in size. I did well and consumed only about 800-1000 calories until the eve of surgery when I had two slices of a medium pizza which my husband was eating, thinking it would be a long time before I was able to eat pizza again. I asked my surgeon about my liver after surgery and he stated that it was enlarged but nothing he wasn't expecting. I wouldn't advise anyone to do what I did at all, especially if it is against what you have been advised by your doctor, but boy am I glad that I didn't have to suffer the pre-op diet as the post op diet is bad enough!

    Recovery

I had surgery on Sunday afternoon, felt rubbish the whole evening but was better by night time. Woke up brighter on Monday and was back to work (office) on Tuesday, although I wasn't feeling very energetic. Wednesday was much better and by Friday I was my usual self, and even worked Saturday to catch up on some work. I'm glad I did not take the "day" option at the hospital and went for the "overnight" stay. That was totally necessary.
