Had my first fill yesterday description included
Ready to wear cute clothes posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So I had my first fill yesterday and all went well. I feel some restriction but its nit tight. I told the doctor I do not want to be tight. It took ten minutes tops! I went in and they had me fill in a few questions about n how I was feeling and how much I can eat . They discussed my concerns and desires and took my weight. Then he had me lie on the fluoroscopy table which has a small round X-ray head that is stomach sized. He quickly located my port and told me I would feel a slight pinch (. No big deal ). And put a small needle into my port . The syring had saline in it he put in 3 Cc's and had me drink a thin oink flavorless liquid then he watched the monitor to see how the liquid flowed through my band and esophogus. It went down nicely so he Added another cc and had me take another drink. On the monitor you could see that the liquid did not go down as smoothly so he went back down to 3 Cc's and said that should leave me comfortable but add restriction. I drank more Water before leaving and all was well. That day I ate mushy food only and today I can eat whatever as long as I chew chew chew. I can feel a slight restriction but its not too evident yet. I'm hoping its enough. I don't feel stuffed after drinking a 8 ounce Protein shake but I feel satisfied. For lunch I had Soup and dinner I had chicken, and some Beans with no problem. I ordered veggies but they were too hard and I was afraid they'd stick. I ate the whole leg and 10 small bites of the beans . I certainly ate more than 1/2 a cup of food. Perhaps 1 cup ? Hopefully the fill works! -

Banded on 10/9 and having pain in chest and back shoulder blades
Ready to wear cute clothes replied to kphoping's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was worried that I was not getting enough calories so I emailed the nutritionist who said at this stage it was Norma, (5 days). . My chest pain didn't last quite as long but I know it can take a while to fade. -
I had my surgery with Dr. Ortiz and Martinez in September. I feel great probably 98% healed and feeling better than prior to surgery as I've lost 30 lbs since pre op. I live in California so I have been to Mexico several times although not recently due to reports of crime and kidnapping. With that said I was just as nervous as anyone else but have no fears! They picked us up at the border parking as I didn't want to drive in Mexico due to insurance. The driver was English speaking and with in 10 minutes we were in the underground parking of the clinic/hospital. Up the elevator we went and arrived in a very nice lobby. Far far nicer than the doctor in my hometown. The clinic doesn't look too old and is well designed and decorated top notch. There is a cafeteria downstairs and my friend loved the food. After surgery they wanted me to spend the night but I preferred to go to the Marriott as the bed was bigger and my friend wouldn't leave me. That was a good decision as I felt pretty good considering. The same driver took us to the hotel which was full of employees to meet us and meet our very need. I have never seen a hotel with so many employees. I'm sure some were security. The staff all understood where we were from and why we were ere. They were familiar with the package we paid for. The hotel was just as nice as any other Marriott. We never went outside the hotel or hospital. Maybe if we were there longer we would have but my friend speaks Spanish and I can understand a lot. One patient said they went shopping. The area for the hospital and hotel (which is ten minutes away from hospital) are in typical TJ neighborhoods which is a mixture of old and uncared for with newer modern buildings mixed in. There is probably less regulations on building or maintenance than in USA . Also there are a lot of people in TJ very populated with people on streets panhandling or selling stuff. There was none of this on the Marriott grounds there were so many covert security people everywhere it was amazing. I felt safe and my every need met. They did not ask for tips but they were ready to help you and answer questions. the Marriot grounds were well cared for. No complaints. Our room was typical Marriott quality. The dining Restaurant was very nice and they were prepared to meet my dietary needs. My friend adored her food. She raved about it. The package included my food and a continental Breakfast for my friend . I am going by myself for a fill and tooth whitening next week and will have them pick me up at the border again. Getting back they take you to the border gate where they put someone in a wheelchair so that we can all go through a special gate for invalids. They took us to the least busy crossing which was further away from our parking but since they drive us its not a big deal, Just a longer ride. We had to take our luggage with us across the border and through X-rays. This means you must lift it yourself or your companion must help you. You will have to walk about 3-4 blocks to meet the ride at the corner as he can't pull up to the border building and must wait down the street (. That confused us but we has a repeat visitor who knew the ropes). The van must go through security Nd X-ray this is why we had to get out. No big deal just like airport security. Border control is USA people on that side going out.

need to loose 50 lbs should i have the surgery ??????
Ready to wear cute clothes replied to cesar_107's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I want to lose 85 lbs and it will be worth it for me. I'm down 29 since starting preop and having surgery last month. I have had no major problems and can actually cross my legs today! I know that sounds stupid to be happy about something like that but I unconsciously crossed my leg today and said to myself "wow I've been to fat to cross my legs for almost two years and now I just did it! My face is looking skinnier and I am not feeling porky. I still have a ways to go but 50 lbs would be worth it as I felt bad physically, Was depressed and looked horrible. Already I feel better! -

Port area pinching on and off
Ready to wear cute clothes posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am about 23 days post op and have felt fine . About 4 days ago I started feeling random pinching twinges near my port area. The pain is probably 2-4 on a scale of 10. No swelling or puss or anything just pinching. Anyone else have this? -
Banded on 10/9 and having pain in chest and back shoulder blades
Ready to wear cute clothes replied to kphoping's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am three plus weeks and feel pretty good except the left shoulder pain. I feel it more at night and ibuprofen helps . Can anyone tell me what causes this? I don't feel gassy . I got a neck massage and it did help but it came back. I'm glad to know this is normal and will pass . Otherwise I feel pretty good -
Isopure anyone?
Ready to wear cute clothes replied to Corridor72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink Isopure daily I get the vanilla cream flavor and add my frozen fruits to them. I like it and it's got lots of Protein. I compared the ingredients with the shakes I can buy at doctors and it was similar. I found a site on line that rated protein powders and also allowed you to compare nutritional content . I don't really like chocolate Protein Shakes the flavor is just never quite right. -
I had my procedure on 9/16, my first fill is next Monday 10/14, I'm very hungry
Ready to wear cute clothes replied to Robertsmomy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded September 19th and I am not hungry too often. I add protein to whatever I can and I am trying to add to my diet and I drink all day long. I like Special K strawberry Kiwi protein water. 30 calories a 5 grams of protein. It's yummy. I've lost 13 post op and feel pleased sabots only been three weeks so 4+ pounds a week is great! -

Scared and need advice
Ready to wear cute clothes replied to ameyer30's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on puréed foods and my plan suggests keeping away from starchy carbs . I am so afraid of feeling sick or stuck I might be being too careful. I have added flavorless Protein powder to Soups and oatmeal and that is working well for me as we'll. I've not been hungry and I feel I can eat more than I do but my nutritionist told me that just because I can doesn't mean I should. This is the reason I've gained weight to begin with I figure. Like I can eat ice cream today but I shouldn't if I want my weight loss to be most successful. My goal is to be a model patient and stay respectful and slightly fearful of the band but not experience it's wrath! -

MY first fill is still 3 weeks away but I have several questions that I am hoping someone. An help me with. 1. Does the doctor discuss your opinion regarding amount of the fill? If I want less restriction as I feel I am doing well is this considered? 2. Does the process hurt? Do they put you out? 3. After the fill how long before you know if its too tight ? 4. Do most people feel ill after their fill? Okay that's all my current questions. Thanks !
