My story is similar we had been trying for the past 10 months I only have 40 left to lose was banded in Jan 2014 and found out this week I was prego. Interestingly enough I had an unfill two weeks ago because I was too tight and have already gained 6 pounds! That is a lot and I am freaking out!

I have yet to have the bread on s piece of pizza. I was banded in January. It literally takes me two hours of very small bites and intervals to chew a piece of whole grain toast. Instead I eat the cheese and toppings off the pizza and leave the bread. I think I was about five months out when I did this. Everybody responds differently to things though but the toppings taste just like the pizza minus the processed flour and carbs. Wine I had sooner. I don't drink much but never do I feel guilty when I do. We aren't supposed to stop living just modify our lifestyle to healthier choices!

After hearing about first bite syndrome for the first time yesterday I googled it and read what I could about it. I also took the advice of others and did three things this morning. 1. I waited about two hours after waking to eat anything. 2. I drank something hot first to get my system going. 3. I chewed the tiniest pieces until they were mush and put my fork down in between bites to ensure I gave myself time to really chew and slowly swallow. The results were positive two fold. Not only did nothing get stuck, I felt satisfied on less. Lesson learned but I am certain I will need a daily reminder to slow down when I eat!

Also I have hit a plateau but don't want to get a fill because we are trying to have a baby and my doc is aware of this. I have beefed up my exercise significantly and am training 3-5 times a week 45 minutes a day to keep losing but my weight hasn't budged. I am not gaining which is a win but I am not loosing either. Could this have anything to do with my stuck episodes and not getting the food in? Or pbing after the stuck episode?

You know it is most likely chicken. I try to eat it often for protein because I am so picky. I don't ear sea food, and red meat I find stays with me too long so I don't eat it more than once or so a week. What should I eat for protein then? I sometimes drink the shakes but I don't want a slider...

You know interestingly enough, I did a lot of research before getting the band, went to the support groups, asked my doctor a ton of questions but I honesty don't think anyone did a great job of explaining "bandster hell" and all that is involved until you begin to receive fills. It was only through the kindness if the people on this site and the encouragement I received that I knew I was on the right track. So fear not, your doing wonderful it will take time but you will achieve your goal. Slow and steady wins the race. Eight pounds is great. Just think where you will be once your fills help you with restriction. Best of luck to you! Keep the faith.

It doesn't matter what I eat, how much or how little, how slow or how fast, there are certain times of the day (which vary day by day) that my food gets stuck. Even after one bite and I know I am too tight to eat then. Keep in mind I don't eat bread, pasta, or rice. I find this frustrating. Does this happen to anybody else? I spoke with my doc about it and he said if I am eating too fast that is why it would happen but after one bite can that be considered eating too fast?

Thanks for replying! I had some soup for lunch today but ate the barley sparingly to be safe and so far so good.

Question: does anyone eat barley and if so how does it go down? I haven't tried I am too afraid and I am ten months out and 50 down. I want some beef barley soup but don't want any stuck episodes. Thanks on advance for the info!

I am almost 10 months out and every day is different for lettuce. I find it frustrating.

I too am hypothyroid had my left thyroid removed in 2005 and was banded in january 2014 and am down 50 pounds. I am exhausted when I get home so I try to walk 2-3 times a week at work during break. When I do I lose more. I too shy away from bread, pasta, and rice. But I haven't given up sweets entirely. I would be happy with 30 more off. I am not looking to be a size 5 but an 8 would be great! I signed up for this ten week fitness challenge that starts in two weeks. I am excited because it will hold me accountable. Keep pushing through you will be happy when you achieve your goals!
