LapBand to RNY-tell me how it's different!
terrydumont46 replied to melliecat's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The difference is night and day. No more fills. No more vomiting. No more reflux. Your pouch actually gives you good warning that you are going overboard. Now for some cons. For me. A lot of gas. A lot more stools. And they are smelly. Hmmmmm trying to think of more but have none. I love having the band removed and having the bypass done. -
Acne after bypass?
terrydumont46 replied to secondchance_tx's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My skin changed to break out conditions and if I squeeze them it takes months to heal. I've never had skin condition prior to surgery. I am 10 months out. I take the skin nails and hair tabs so now I wonder if that is the problem. -
If he has a lawyer you need one too. Google and find a low cost legal aid in your area. The courts will force him to allow you access to your share of property.

I was allowed to start drinking regular coffee by my 6 week checkup. I got the jitters so now enjoy a half half combo for 2c cups in the morning and than change to decaf. I think I enjoy the warm drink especially when fighting head hunger.

terrydumont46 replied to beylove's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Post Bypass Surgery foods I can eat
terrydumont46 replied to bigmoe99's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Carbs aren't bad just eat the healthy ones. My nutritionist added potatoes to my diet. I love them. About once a week I will have 3 small red potatoes. 5 grams of protein in them. Also sweet potatoes. I weigh and measure so I don't go over my calorie count for the day. Once in a blue moon I make pizza. Only 1/6 of a med. pizza is about right for a pouch and you stay within a 1200 a day cal. Count. 1/2 of a turkey sandwich at lunch also stays in the calorie count. I don't do pasta or rice but only because I don't tolerate well. So I guess my answer to carbs or no carbs is toleration and calorie count. If you aren't keeping a food log you should be, also weigh and measure what you aren't sure about. -
What was your "Yep. I'm getting WLS." moment?
terrydumont46 replied to GranadoM74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When my heart stopped in the er and my family pleaded with me to live. My daughter was pregnant with my first granddaughter so first I stopped a 35 year habit of smoking and saw the surgeon. -
It sounds like they put you on carafate. Good stuff. You will be feeling better soon.

I can only sleep on my side. I was sleeping from day 1 on my side. Hurts my back to sleep on my back or stomach.
-
Are you getting a revision? If not I am really surprised you aren't getting a full work up. Most of us have sleep apnea tests, vials and vials of blood taken, cardiologist clearance, psych clearance etc. this is major surgery and shouldn't be taken lightly.

I add the protein to drinks i like. I love coffee so add vanilla or chocolate protein to it. Crystal lite orange with vanilla taste like a 50-50 bar.

I have been at 210 forever. It fluctuates between 205 and 210 . It's frustrating. Today I am going on liquids to see if I can break this stall. I know I can, -
My stomach is very noisy. Man the other day at the dentist it was carrying on the conversation with the hygienist when my mouth was opened. It's just part of your life now. I just laugh and it makes everyone else laugh.

Nervous is it normal
terrydumont46 replied to ambernicole22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would be more worried if you weren't a bit nervous. It's surgery. But, you will do great. Focus on how much you are looking forward to this. -
Finally got my date March 22! What should I bring!?
terrydumont46 replied to Christina_rny.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The easiest way to get out of bed is to use the up and down buttons for the head of bed. Let the bed do most of the work for you. Make sure the foot of the bed is flat and you are positioned correctly on the back part. Just relax as the back goes to a sitting position. Than all you have to do is slide your legs over the edge of the bed and the hard part is over with very minimal amt of pain. There are parts of the bed close to the floor that if you find this bar you can use it too to rest your legs on before reaching for the floor. -

No appetite...no desire to eat or drink?
terrydumont46 replied to slimmommy3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes it helps if you take the pressure off yourself. Mydoctor always uses the phrase " do the best you can". Instead of concentrating on food I just concentrated on protein intake. I made my favorite stews and soups and emulsified it to mushy or liquid form. I would added chicken flavored protein to them. Made protein drinks the way I liked them like vanilla protein with orange crystal lite. Or decaf coffee hot or cold with chocolate protein. Keep a sports bottle next to where you sit. Sip on it all day. Use flavor u like so you will drink. Good luck and "do the best you can" and stop beating yourself up. -
Not feeling any different
terrydumont46 replied to Sammie16's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Both of you are on phases that allow food to slide on through your pouch. You don't get a full feeling eating sliders. Things will change when solids are added to your diet. If you are hungry enough to eat something you aren't supposed to eat more of what you are allowed. The phases we go through are important. Try real hard to stay true to it -
Do you take your blood pressure at home when things happen? Fish oil can raise your be. It's hard at times to diagnose things. I had a fever once that lasted 6 months or so. I had every test my doctor could think of and he couldn't find the cause. Start keeping a log of vitals signs, bp, pulse, temp and blood sugar if you have a glucose monitor. Make notations when the symptoms appear. What were u doing, eating etc. perhaps you can find the missing link. I wish you well

Medicare coverage question
terrydumont46 replied to glitter eyes's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had Medicare as secondary and my primary didn't cover bariatric surgery and in my state Medicare didn't cover sleeve. By now I would think the sleeve would be covered. -

terrydumont46 replied to beachwalker4rny's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
i do the. Once a week I organize my medication. They have pill organizers that have big compartments. I just had my 6month blood work and my body chemistry is perfect. So it is important to take what is ordered. -
How much how fast did you loose after bypass?
terrydumont46 replied to Soexcited's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
We don't usually like to answer this question. Everyone loses at their own pace. We are all at different levels of physical capabilities . I think safely I can say 1-2 lbs a week. More in the beginning but as your body adjust so will the rapid wt lost. As for me at 6 months l lost 56 lbs. but I am a revision from a band. We lose a bit slower and due to a bad shoulder, wrist and both knees I keep active but can't do repetitive things. So see a lot of factors will determine your wt lost. -
Vitamix/blenders after surgery?
terrydumont46 replied to RollingRing's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The one tool I use still is a emulsifier. It takes my homemade soups to liquid so I'm not stuck on the same stuff. Even vegetables can be emulsified so it is mushy. -
that was my first goal. Not weight but when my blood sugars were normal. I was on 200 units of lantus also humalog and my bs was in the 200. I was so happy when I was told to go off insulin. Good luck to you
