  1. it sounds normal. your port is attached to muscle with stitches. you will feel pulls etc as the port settles in.
  2. I am grateful to 1. Hubby, daughters, grandchildren and other family 2. That my health is improving and I am back on track 3. The love God shows me every single day and that he is always there for me 4. My home 5. My Fur kids. And to all of you and the support I felt while I was going through this hard time. Thank you
  3. I was okay until I got preg. gained 70 lbs. lost most of it. and than 6 years down the road after many up and downs I got busy and lost all the extra wt. and was exercising like crazy. and than I met my 6'3 husband. I ate like a tall man. my wt went sky high. I lost it and gained it back. and than I got diabetes. I was never able to lose the wt. again. dieting was a big bomb. when my diabetes got so out of control and I kept gaining wt. and my heart stopped for 12 seconds I knew I needed help. so wls. so happy I did it too.

    Delayed First Fill

We all go through this period. Eat to keep yourself satisfied but eat Protein and healthy. Most ppl don't get their first fill until they have recovered some from surgery, I didn't get my first fill until 7 weeks after surgery. And your fills are likely going to be small fills until you are in the green zone. So you will be fighting hunger for awhile. You will be dieting during this period. head hunger is hard to beat but I know you can do it. good luck

    What am I doing?

whenever I go through something painful or stressful my wonderful brain likes to turn off. what you are doing right now is stressful. I just wonder if you are feeling tired as a way for your brain to adapt to the new lifestyle you are establishing.

    Hit first plateau. Help?

I was going to suggest the same thing that a previous poster said. sometimes a change up in calorie intake or change in the type of exercise you are doing is what you need to do to get out of a stall. but be aware that stalls do happen. just keep eating healthy and moving and you will break the stall

    sick when i eat

you just had surgery. this is a complaint you need to talk to your doctor about. he will advise you on eating and taking your medication. I have a band so I can't advise you about food etc. but I do know you need to call your doctor immediately

    shakes with bananna

for a breakfast smoothie I use spinach or kale, a orange, grated ginger and fat free milk. I share with my husband so I am only using a half of orange. and I put in vanilla protein shake.
  9. the band will work for you as long as you keep in mind that you can't eat like you used to. you will have a pouch that will hold 4-6 oz of food. it is small. if you don't follow the eating rules you might suffer some complications. I have suffered from some complications but because I followed my doctors advise and became very compliant my complications are correcting themselves. so my best advice to you is to follow all directions given to you. eat small, chew thoroughly, and keep your portions in check. also eat slowly. we all eat to fast. it is a hard habit to break. so I suggest putting your fork or spoon down in between bites. a half of cup of food should take you about 20 min's to eat. if you follow the eating rules you will lose wt. and won't have complications. I wish you luck. if I had to do it all over again even with my complications I would have the band again. I can't eat around a properly adjusted band.

    Gurgling noise

sometimes it's so loud my dogs even perk their ears up at the noise. drinking Water helps to keep the loud sounds away. or just a bite of food.

    I'm in bandster hell

Try a heating pad to your shoulder. it should help. or stand in the shower with hot Water massaging the area. bandster hell is rough. keep strong because after each fill you get you will have to go on a liquid diet for a few days and than mushies for a few days.
  12. I am over a year out and just tonight I had some pain at my port site. I just massaged it a bit and the pain went away.

    Wired happenings

go back to a more of a liquid diet for a few days. you may have a swollen stoma where your band is. but I would also call your doctor to just let them know. they may want to let some fluid out of the band . but anytime you are having difficulty its best to drink liquids. I hope things will be fine soon
  14. I am bipolar. my psychiatrists gave his 2 thumbs up about me having surgery. He knew if I lost wt. I would be a happier me and therefore make better decisions for myself. we have a bit more of a battle because of the depression side of our disease. it wants to be fed. but to say you would not be successful is so wrong. I am so sorry you are having all this trouble. I think my first trip would be to my pcp. and start the approval process all over again. and keep this thread so you can hand it to them that refuse you so they can read the truth from real ppl instead of their book policies. good luck.

    Why You Chose That Surgery?

the lap band chose me. I went into surgery planning on a gastric bypass. I was having the bypass because of my high bmi and diabetes and my health in general. but due to adhesions and scarring there wasn't enough small intestine to pull up and connect to the esophagus. but all my health issues have gone to the wayside. I no longer even take my blood sugar any more. and before surgery I was on a lot of insulin. I no longer have to take bp medication and I was on 3. so all my health issues are mostly gone and I didn't have to have anything re routed. I am happy with the band.
  16. you had dry chicken. you will find that leftovers aren't usually tolerated well. in your situation I would have added some broth to that chicken and than blended. my suggestion is to drink some Water. you sound like you are getting dehydrated. you should be drinking 2 quarts at minimum a day. and never go without eating. at your stage Soup, Protein drinks, mushed up protein of any kind. I use a emulsefer. and with every fill you will need to go through the liquid and mushy stages over and over again and you need to figure out how to eat. i'm guessing that your band is not filled right now. so mushy food should be able to slip right through. eggs, pureed vegetables, cottage cheese, yogurt, or whatever you like you just need to put some broth in it and blend it until it is soft. but for now drink some liquids and see if that helps. your pouch will digest just like your big stomach since it is just your stomach pulled up to be a pouch. I wish you luck. but please see to your diet.

    Almost cried today

we all know what you rant about. there are so many things we have all endured over the years. don't worry it won't be long after your surgery for that normal size cuff to fit. good luck on your surgery.

    Isn't it Ironic

I got to tell my daughter this. she has the same thing. she also a few months ago had the same thing but on just the inside of her nose. she too went to the internet. is it a new substance they are putting in nail polish? weird

    Ugh....here we go again.

my mother's doctor told her not to worry. once she reached 75 she will start losing wt. and she did. she was never overly obese but was always on a diet to lose that 20 lbs. isn't al old? he's been around for ages.

Taking my band out for lunch....

I went to a harvest party with my grandchildren. this man was going around with a big bowl of candy for the grownups. I told him no a few times but finally gave in when I saw a tootsie roll. okay as I analyzed the situation. if I eat the tootsie roll it will take me a long time because it's so chewy its chocolate and fat free. yea!!! I hated my mouth after eating it. I haven't had a sugar mouth in a long long time. when I got home I needed to drink glasses of Water. ok that's my Halloween story. I have thought for a while now that a bento box would be perfect for meals. I am not one that just likes one thing at mealtime. a box would be perfect. going to amazon to find one. ha good idea bandista

    Question for band veterans

leepers said it best. fills are a personal decision. your doctor will guide you and ask you questions about how you are feeling. most doctors side on the side of caution, so if you don't want a fill he/she won't do it. good job on the wt. loss. you are doing well.

    September 2012

some slips can be corrected by going on liquids for 2 weeks and 2 weeks of soft with a unfill of the band. I had a small slip that corrected itself. don't be surprised if your insurance company requests this. good luck I hope you get what you want.

    Possible Lap band leaking!

complications are horrible. I pray that there is a explanation other than a leaking band. I lost a cc of fluid but the tests were all normal, no leaking band. you are doing so well. keep up the good work even if there is a problem. it is hard. but can be done. hope all goes well.

    Two Cinder Blocks Down.....

I can't get the diet mentality out of my head either. guilty feelings are always with me. and since I am having a few complications I can add those guilty feelings to the load I am already carrying. did we really live our lives with all these feelings? how in the hell did we put one foot in front of the other?

    How long?

I think most doctors will say 30 min's at minimum.
