talk with your doctor. with the band you need to learn how to stop eating. and to always chew your food and slow down. the band will not stop you from overeating. it isn't better to be to tight. a whole lot of complications can start if you don't follow the protocols or are to tight. your doctor should be asking you questions at each appointment and be able to deduct if a fill is needed. you don't want to be the bandster that goes in for a fill just to go back in and have the fill removed. practice on being band compliant. I promise it will save you.

Band slippage
terrydumont46 replied to wesleyfamily's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
constant reflux. depending on the severity of the slippage food can be backing up into the esophagus. this causes severe pain in the chest. so relux, pbing, and slime. and pain. it takes a lot for a band to slip. if you are having some of the symptoms you need to check with your doctor to have some fluid removed and have a endoscopy done. it just maybe that your band is to tight. -
I just wanted to know if anyone is happy about revising from one surgery to ds. after my research this surgery seems to be so appropriate for my eating disorder. I can no longer have fills in my band so it is wide open and slowly my wt is going up. complications caused me to be in this spot. just was wondering if anyone had an opinion.

Blood Oxygen Level
terrydumont46 replied to LousPeachy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Being heavy can also cause a low sat. level. practice breathing deeply. Inflating your lungs. it will help you for post op. -
That's right on your waist isn't it? if it becomes a problem I understand the replacement of the port is very minor surgery. so don't worry.

Gallbladder Removal
terrydumont46 replied to Weightogo123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
exactly nine months after lapband surgery. but I had a horrible diseased gallbladder dealing with it for years prior. it is commonplace for us to have our gallbladders removed I have heard of lots. -
Difficult to accurately track progress as all scales are massively different
terrydumont46 replied to Fookoff's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
just weigh on the one at home. don't pay attention to the doctor's scales. my doctor told me to weigh naked on Saturday morning. and that is it. -
PREOP SCAR TISSUE
terrydumont46 replied to LousPeachy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
if you are having gastric bypass the scar tissue and adhesions can be a problem. I ended up with a lapband because there wasn't enough free small intestine to pull up. I too was in surgery a long time while my doctor tried. -
right side just below my rib cage. easy place for fills. anyone that has done a fill on me can find it without problem if I stick my tummy out.

Lap Band Completed - May 1, 2015
terrydumont46 replied to jthelwell's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
you did a good job. try and push the liquids a little more. we do get dehydrated fast and this can cause nausea and general not feeling well. popsicles are great during your first couple of days. but it sounds like you are on top of things. good luck and wishing you a speedy recovery. -
It's so funny how one food is tolerated by one person and another couldn't eat it if offered a million bucks. I can't eat deli meats. I have tried as a quick protein lunch and it makes me slime so bad. but I can eat all pasta's and rice and bread without a problem.(DARN)! I do stay away from them because of my diabetes. I also really shouldn't have beef in my diet unless its in chili or something like that. I can eat lamb without problem. It just amazes me how different we all are when it comes to food.

I love salads now and any vegetable I can get my hands on. I roast my vegetables or steam them. I used to pre band eat crisp tender but now I do a little more cooking on it. when I was very newly banded I would emulsify my asparagus and stuff. I began to enjoy vegetables just for their taste not so much their texture.

I don't ever want to do THAT again!
terrydumont46 replied to DoneItForMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i go to the bathroom and sometimes just the bending over and the slime will bring up the item. but it generally takes a drink of water. this brings it up fast and the discomfort goes away immediately. just don't overdue that day. soups and fluids yogurt you know the drill. just don't sit there until the unthinkable happens. I know in a second if I am stuck and go straight to the restroom. when I first got banded and was learning to eat I pb'd a lot, so it got to the point that my dogs left the room. to hear me burp and waiting to long to go to the bathroom so I had to use the trash can next to my chair. my dogs hated it. -
Feeling like I am taking the easy way out :-/
terrydumont46 replied to Butterfly512's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If anyone says wls is the easy way out they should try it and find out that it takes just as much work as not having it done. we still diet, exercise and worry about every bite we put in our mouths. I would be well over 300 lbs right now by doing weight watchers or jenny craig. my wt was going up even with diet. my diabetes was out of control even with a zero carb diet. I don't know what went down but the harder I dieted the more I gained. easy way out , no way!!!!! -
If you didn't have fears I would be worried for you. it is normal to have fear. you are undertaking a big change in your life starting with surgery. but as I read your letter you are doing it for all the right reasons. the more you educate yourself the more sure you will become. continue reading all you can about the surgery you have chosen. wishing you luck on this adventure.

Being a old pro at this and the fact I waited so long to get a unfill caused me to have problems. it is normal to feel tight but not normal to have pain in your chest. that is usually indicating that the fluid or food is backing up into your esophagus and that your esophagus is spasming I think you are doing the right thing siding with caution.

Weight Loss Surgery right for me? Which one? Mental Illness Concerns
terrydumont46 replied to Butterfly512's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am bipolar. I have type b where I lean towards depression. I am on 5 different medications for my disease. I have a healthy relationship with my psychiatrist and he was one of my support persons prior and during wls. none of my medications were changed. I have some real lows and we were about to change one of them but I pulled out of it without tweaking my med's. yes you may have a harder time losing wt. but being overweight and doing nothing about it I think, would cause me to be more depressed and out of control. wls is having control of that aspect of your life. it will make you feel better. but don't expect wls to correct your bipolar. or your med's you are on. I wish I could take those medications out of my life but I know I never will be able to. you have to be very compliant with the lap band. if you don't think you can you need to go to another surgery. I have the band but might be revising. I had the band fail, my doctors both pcp and surgeon fail which caused depression so I have failed too. it is very very depressing. I cry when I talk with my husband about what is going on with me. but now I am looking forward to talking with my surgeon and the possibility of revision to a malasorbtion type of surgery. I wish you luck. as long as you put in the work the band is terrific. -
Revisional Surgery Approved, Sleeve or Bypass....?
terrydumont46 replied to kiwi-scot's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am also maybe doing a revision with my band. I have gone back and am researching all the surgeries available. I am really liking the ds. my gi doctor who doesn't have anything invested in my wls said that the ds was a very good surgery very successful wt. loss and maintaining the wt. loss with little or no complications. you don't get the dumping with ds. and no reflux as some experience with the sleeve. I have a appointment with my wls early part of may. good luck on your revision. it is a nerve racking decision. -

Excessive leg and foot swelling
terrydumont46 replied to Sunshine_Gal's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was taken off just the days I was in the hospital. and I am surprised you were off your bp meds at all. but when they took me off Lasix and was giving me iv fluids I developed heart failure while in the hospital. had to stay 3 full days over the usual one day discharge. for anyone having surgery and are on blood pressure and Water pills it is dangerous to just go off them. these are some of the medications that you should go home on. but there is another lesson here for all to learn. prior to surgery you should discuss all your medications with your primary care, surgeon and pharmacist. to change pills from large to small, non chewables to chewables etc. I have on my medication list that no medications to be changed unless my pc and psychiatrist is contacted first and I list their names and phone numbers. -
Weaning off CPAP
terrydumont46 replied to ready2B's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
i too just went off the cpap when the mask kept sliding off during the night. I asked my husband if I was snoring and he said no so I didn't worry about it anymore. sometimes when my allergies are causing grief I look at the cpap machine and want to wear it for the night for better breathing and air intake. -
I had right sided pain in my side and it made my port stick out more from swelling. a ultra sound found my problem. I didn't have any kidney stones but I had a very enlarged duct and gallbladder showing that I had been dealing with stones for a long time. as my doctor called it, a very sick gallbladder. so don't let them say nothing wrong, because for a couple of years I had the ultrasounds and when no stones were found they said gallbladder okay when it wasn't .

do my vitamins have to be chewable?
terrydumont46 replied to bangbangbarbie's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I like the gummies and for calcium the chocolate chewies. they are like a treat or candy so I save them for later in the day. but all other supplements are pill form. -

Frozen meals - lean cuisine weight watchers...
terrydumont46 replied to MamaTo3inNH's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I don't ever look at frozen foods but 15 grams of Protein is rather low for a meal. a piece of chicken, or shrimp or fish or even steak, hamburger will all have much more than 15 grams. if I were to look at a frozen entrée as an emergency meal I would look at atkins. if you can't find food healthy for you, you will not succeed, I am sorry to be mean here but our brains are wired differently. you will start to look at foods you like more but likely isn't a good choice. the wt. loss will stop. try hard and get the cookbooks out and get on the internet and find good healthy meals that you can fix and that you will like.
