yes it could. vomiting is the worse thing a person can do. if you get sick again or perhaps your doctor will give you medication for nausea. I had the flu a few months back but my band was deflated for another reason. I still used nausea medication, Carafate and tums to try and stop the vomiting. we will all get sick with different things and if your band is filled than you might have to go in and have a unfill until you feel better. a slipped band isn't a picnic.

I was challenged by my surgeon to go 1 month finding secret calories in my diet. I am revising from lap band, ( sorry to see it go) to gastric bypass or sleeve. He said that ppl that revise sometimes don't have success especially after having a lapband. so I am on the hunt. This will help those that have been having trouble with their wt. loss as well. I got out the measuring spoons and my scale. I have been finding secret calories hidden in most of what I eat. I eat healthy and prepare most of my food but weighing and measuring has kept me honest. I have been surprise about tomatoes being 50 calories, I won't go into avocados, perfectly healthy but between whole wheat bread and lite mayo, my oh my. my half and half in the morning. I still use it but measure serving size. salad drsg. I thought I was dieting. Hell no. I have already lost 9 pounds in a week and half. it takes a little more time but I challenge you to a find your secret calories.

I'll be never happy/normal even after WLS/Anyone else feel like this?
terrydumont46 replied to SoulGlo's topic in The Lounge
When I get down on myself and verbalize it with my husband he always says the same thing to me. You aren't gaining wt are you? The wt. will come off. I look at shorter goals instead of goals a long way away. I second that if you are not seeing a therapist than you really need to. when I feel the way you do right now I feel the need tohurt myself and struggle not to. that includes feeding those thoughts away. So I ask you are you gaining wt. because remaining the same is a plus for us. I used to gain 10lbs a month before surgery. Keep to your plan one time you are going to feel joy about how your clothes feel, how you are able to bend over without being out of breath. wanting to take the stairs instead elevator. not sweat when you move. all these things will go away in time. I wish you lots of Luck please take care and do what you must to be successful. -
I love orange and lemonade crystal lite and vanilla Protein mix. add ice and shake real well. reminds me of a 50-50 bar

In a wedding this Saturday, Can I have a drink?
terrydumont46 replied to Butterfly512's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
keep away from anything carbonated. you don't want to all of the sudden without warning spit up. my doctor didn't want me to drink alcohol at all but did at 6 mos. allow me to have my Christmas drink of bailey's . I suggest asking your doctor all doctor's are different. and sipping on a white wine may not be off their list. -
21 days Post Op and having a lot of mucus
terrydumont46 replied to BrandNuMeHPB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it's not mucus but slime created by your esophagus. you are eating to much at one time. your pouch only holds about 4 ounces at a time. So my advice is to eat much much smaller amounts at a time, chew each mouthful thoroughly, and take time between bites. all of this allows the food you are eating time to process through your band into the stomach. -
Please say it gets easier! :-(

Get yourself some hummus. on my mushy stage I was allowed corn tortilla chips to go with the chili I was also allowed to have. I can see you sitting in front of the campfire with a little bag of chips and your hummus laughing and talking and being social. make yourself a little ice chest that you have made several dips like stuff. use your blender and get creative. never mind all the food going around. you have determination on your side and can have a great time without food. -
I like multi vit. gummy chews. I can chew these really well. also calcium chews. I tried the bariatric ones but choked on the yuckiness of it. up north we are low on vit. d. haven't found a chewy in them but did find a small gel form.

I just figure it to be a real treat. I used to pre surgery have movie theater popcorn every night maybe even two. but now I air pop and use my fat allowance to sprinkle real butter on top. I only allow it a couple of times a month.

If you are very band compliant and do exactly what your doctor says the band will help you lose wt. the band is a bit more tempermental than the other surgeries and complications can occur. but if you do as you are supposed to do you will be successful in band life. I drink crystal light and Water. ever so often I will have a diet ginger ale. but never close to a meal. and I drink it slowly.

Time to find a doctor. that will be your first stop. talking with a nutritionist is a must. and a plan will be made. start eating slowly, chew thoroughly, and small amounts. start a food journal. I wish you luck.

Pain in left side, nausea, vomiting- 4 months post op
terrydumont46 replied to reevesfarm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is when I tell ppl to be very assertive in your care and your band. my story and I am going to make it short was where I started to have reflux. my PA and surgeon treated me for that by increasing prilosec and using Carafate and onesdastron(SP). but what I should have said since I have never had any trouble and at the point had lost 81 lbs. I was a compliant bander. but I should have insisted on a barium swallow. I didn't and on july 4th I was in severe pain . went to the surgeon and had a barium swallow which showed a little slippage but I had a lot of damage done to my esophagus which I have never healed from. my band is in place but any amount of fill causes my damage to flair up. now I have no fill and slowly gaining wt. and have to start all over with a revision. I love my band and treated it well. but I needed to know when to assert myself and this is your time. make sure everything is okay. -

protein powder is like adding an egg to something hot. it becomes lumpy and yucky. to add protein powder to anything hot you have to first make a paste with the powder using tepid fluid. than slowly add hot liquid while stirring rapidly. I have never been successful using the microwave on protein powder.

Pain in left side, nausea, vomiting- 4 months post op
terrydumont46 replied to reevesfarm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
when you get a stuck issue going on sometimes the food causes your esophagus to spasm. that is likely the pain you are feeling. it should go away once the food makes its way out as in pb'ing or into your stomach. you don't want to ever throw up if you can help it. but if its just coming from the pouch area it is pb'ing. if you still have pain in your chest after becoming unstuck don't rule out heart trouble. you should report either to your pcp or surgeon the continuing pain. -
Banded today 5/29/15
terrydumont46 replied to barrettmomma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it is perfectly normal to run a low grade temp. I believe they want you to call if your temp is over 101 unless you have signs and symptoms of infection at incision sites. it sounds as if you are doing very well. good luck on a speedy recovery -
Other than...
terrydumont46 replied to mdaily1027's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't feel my band but I hear whats going on in my stomach more now. I don't know why don't know the scientific reason either. and when I am hungry it's astonishing the sounds that my stomach makes and everyone can hear. -
if you can tolerate bread than a slice of bread shouldn't be a problem. whole wheat bread is good for you. vegetables have carbs so a little carb in the morning as bread, to me, is a okay. I like a egg on toast. I just don't use butter on my toast. I let the yolk moisten the bread. meals should be 300 to 400 calories each. you will be able to eat your bread and stay under those calories. my worst time of day for feeling hungry and sometimes helpless is at night. I have horrible brain hunger while watching prime time tv.

What does restriction feel like?
terrydumont46 replied to kellyannrose143's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
if you really work on eating the exact amounts you should be eating the restriction will come into play by keeping food in your pouch long enough so the signal is sent to your brain that you are full. if you are eating until you feel stuck or slime or pb'ing than you have eaten to much and in time complications can set in. try measuring your food. it should be just about 1/2 cup of food per meal. with restriction as I talked about before that half of cup of food will be enough to make you not hungry. I hope this makes sense. -
sometimes a fill will cause a temporary swelling of the stoma. go back to liquids and than try mushies. sometimes we do have to take a step backwards. and it's true that chicken can be dry especially white meat. a lot of banders don't tolerate white meat. I too would try a different kind of protein. so after all this, take a step back. go back to soups and yogurt cottage cheese etc.

port site pain
terrydumont46 replied to statebabe40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have thought this out very well. yes to all your statements. sometimes the port needs to be moved. this is a doctor thing. be sure and let your doctor know of your discomfort. most of us don't feel our port at even after activity. -
Ginger tea is great. and perhaps another type of anti acid might work better than Prilosec. nexium is a stronger Prilosec. and Pepcid works really well. when I was having reflux really bad the doctor had me on 2 prilosecs and Carafate at night and onestraden or reglan. not sure of the spelling on the first one but it is the generic for reglan. and for the ginger tea you can buy it in the tea section of your supermarket. it really is a good product.

Enmend? Phenegran?
terrydumont46 replied to jess9395's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had reglan and I still will use it if I get nauseated. I also was on Prilosec and Carafate. and tums . I don't get nauseated much. and the reglan worked really well and it has a generic so will be cheaper. -
When I have severe allergies or a cold my band is tighter. I often go to liquids when I am sick.

Lap band adjustment
terrydumont46 replied to vickers57's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have never heard of this complication with surgery fill with the band. I would call your primary care or your surgeon. you maybe becoming anemic or something. your heart should be checked too. not everything you will experience post banding is going to be band related. call your doctor.
