    Salads?

i have salads for lunch but i will have either a salad or a hot vegetable with protein at dinner. i make my own salad dressing. using different types of vinegars, olive oil, and whole grain mustard, salt, pepper and garlic. salads are almost a slider for me. i can eat well over a cup of it without ever filling full.
  3. my doctor wants me to wear a ring. if the ring is tight so is the band. the idea is to eat accordingly.
  4. my doctor wants 60 grams of protein whether it be by food or protein drinks. i usually consume 90-100 grams of protein because i need that protein drink at night to keep me from snacking all night long. it is a appetite control thing for me. i keep a food diary and keep a tally on protein and calories. i have a 32 oz container that i keep full all day and night. and yes i have to pee during the night. but i am a drinker and don't have a problem drinking fluids.
  5. #1 ask the anthesiologist to give you antiemetics prior and during surgery and after. this should control vomiting and nausea. #2 if you didnt have digestion problems before you more than likely wont after, if you keep to small meals. chew your food throughly. dont eat fast and don't gulp. #3 you still enjoy all the foods you love you just won't want to eat as much. we are all still on diets. low fat, sugar free and mostly carb free. by having surgery you are confirming that you cannot lose weight on your own. you have tried and cant do it. your weight is a health issue and you should be thinking about a new attitude towards food. if you arent there than perhaps postponing your surgery is the right thing to do. i think most banders on here were looking forward to their surgery. worked hard to have it done. i know i felt like it was my last resort. and i have to tell you that losing weight is a high in itself. wearing clothes again that i haven't been able to wear, to have energy that i haven't had for years. lap band surgery is a blessing. not a curse. good luck to you
  6. last night i had a pb and spit up large amount of slime and the fish i was eating. the episode was over or so i thought until early this morning when i tried to drink water and the espohagus felt like the water wouldnt go down. a little bit of pain too. the water came up also with a lot of slime. uncomfortable feeling in my chest. i know i am likely swollen shut. i cant even take small sips of water. when do i get concern? does anyone have any hints on how to get the swelling down? any help much appreciated. thanks

    heartburn?

yes it is normal. try walking when your pressure starts. i walk after every meal. but keep a journal of foods eaten and your response to them. take with you to your doctor appt. it is valuable info for your doctor on whether to do a fill or not. also smaller sips might be in order. gl

    i cant keep liquids down

whatever was stuck or swollen is fine now. i was sipping some warm tea and realized i wasn't burping anymore. i had already called my surgeon who wanted me to travel 2.5 hours to the er where he is at. but since everything is back to normal do i still need to go to the er. i called my doctor and left a message that all is well. i will never eat leftovers again, ever ever ever. whew what a tough day.

    My Weight

i used to be able to lose weight easily. of course i would gain it right back and more. but when i became diabetic and on insulin no diet plan in the world was helping lose weight. i opted for weight loss surgery when i decided enough was enough and didnt want to lose weight and gain it back. i am older and losing weight was a nightmare. you know you better than anyone else does and they don't live inside your head or body. it's a personal decision.

    Borderline abn ekg :-(

i have cardiac arrythmias in fact after surgery i suffered with congested heart failure. to much iv fluids was the cause. most overweight ppl have a heart problem of some sort. your surgeon will read the report and recommend any further tests they want to ensure you are safe.

    Gastroparesis?

i just went to mayo clinic to read about your condition. where the lap band may not be your best option the sleeve might be the answer. in fact one of the treatments for your condition is stapling part of the stomach to encourage emptying of the stomach. you really need to talk with your surgeon or primary care doctor about this. good luck and best
  15. oh man this is a great question. i am dealing with my brain knowing it has always been stronger than me. but i allow all the voices of the ppl sharing on this web site to enter it and it has helped me when i am dealing with cravings. the band does help with over eating but it doesnt help with what you put in your tummy. it is a constant war but so far i have won most of the small battles, and everyday i learn one more way to deal with the battle.

    am i paranoid

i hardly have any problems with band discomfort but once in awhile it just plain hurts. when i walk i hold onto it and can feel a bit of swelling. its not painful just hurts. i am 41/2 months out so i expect that this might occur once in awhile.

    Got my band yesterday!

i am diabetic and kept carb free due to blood sugars for years. my pa (physcian assistant) encouraged me to eat some carbs, like whole wheat bread, yams, brown rice etc. the first meal i made was an egg on toast. 80 cal. for the egg and 80 for the toast. a 160 cal breakfast not to shabby. it was so lovely, i licked the plate. and my blood sugar was no higher than when i restricted my carbs. the bread allows me to fill up and stay full. i am wishing that she tells me to eat a baked potato loaded with cheese, sour cream etc. lol don't think that will happen. we need to be smart eaters but starving ourselves didnt work before the band and it won't help after band. so smart eating to everyone.
  18. with my doctor it was 80grams daily. as you add food to your diet keep track and food plus protein drinks should be 80 g. but again as we all stress over and over again every doctor is different and the doctor should be telling you what to drink and eat. its important to be taking a multi-vit. with minerals. also a b complex. i have to take vit. d because my d was low. also calcium. most start with 1500 calcium. good luck
  19. lol in response to when we get old. my mothers doctor told her that when she reached the age of 75 that the weight she carried would come off. he wasn't kidding. she is of normal size now at 83. maybe we can find comfort in this.

    Holy Horsesnot Batman!!

i like Knorr-Caldo Con Sabor de Pollo chicken flavor bouillon. i find it in the mexican food section at the store. i buy the canister, i hate unwrapping litttle packages. of course popsicles brand puts out the most flavorable popsicle. dont forget your crystel lite. it is a life saver . i dont know where you buy your proten shakes but amazon is a lot cheaper than most outlets. good luck and use us whenever you need to

    Day of Surgery

i stayed for 2 days due to lengthly surgery and i got congested heart failure after surgery. i wanted and finally got was a fan. and also a large water container. i loved the ice. the ride home was almost unbearable. be sure to medicate just before going home. good luck and best
  23. i do very good during the day with my diet but sometimes like last night i cannot control myself. i had celery and peanut butter and popcorn. it was this way before surgery too. my brain takes over and its like i am sleep walking. does anyone else have this problem and if so how do you deal with it? i even went out and bought kale chips and vegetable chips but abused them too!
