Starting My Journey
terrydumont46 replied to Jatinsle21's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
i talked to my pcp who gave me my surgeons name. than i called the office and was set up for a seminar. at the seminar not only do i learn about the 3 different surgeries available but my insurance info was taken and verified, and this is the big part. i also checked the internet to try and find a place closer to my home. i went to their seminar too! but i chose the doctor that seemed to really take all my medical problems into consideration. he made me check each and every one of them out and get a clearance. i liked this approached instead of see a nutritionlist see our psychologist and we will have at it. lol , so start with your pcp and go from there. or just check the internet. good luck -
I'm getting frustrated
terrydumont46 replied to vincereautmori's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
when i started on the road to surgery i had so many health issues blocking my way that i felt very disjointed from the surgery team. but as my health issues resolved and i started the psych eval. and nutritionist eval. i felt a bit more a part of the process. talking with the lead intake member he started to call me every other day making sure i was getting all the different labs and xrays etc. together. my pcp than made his report and had all the stuff needed by the surgeon. and than and only than did i begin to feel like i was having the surgery. i started on 9/11 and had surgery on 5/29/13. good luck to you -

18 MONTHS OUT AND GAINING WEIGHT
terrydumont46 replied to cleescruggs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So really sorry you are having a rough time. while i was reading your letter i was ready for you to say you gained all your weight back. you gained 22 lbs. it would be very hard to plan and execute that plan while dealing with all you are. the only advice i can give you is that you being unhealthy will not help anyone. they all need you to be healthy have energy and be strong. a tough order i know. perhaps dealing properly with your band will help you be strong because you will be feeling good about yourself. choose food wisely and when you can't, eat in moderation. God Bless you and your family. -
chili and refried beans are good. eggs, oatmeal, smashed up tuna fish. but your doctor will likely give you a list of food. my doctor did. i remember my first chili after being on liquids for so long. man were they good. i had them in a little measuring cup and i actually licked the measuring cup. my hubby just stared at me lol. man were they good.

Poll: Do you let Food sit in your esophagus? Or wash it down with liquids?
terrydumont46 replied to NaNa's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
all i know is , if i drink with a meal i will spit up my food. i have to wait until the food goes into my stomach. if your food isn't flowing and empting the "pouch" effortlessly than you are to full on your band. or you have eaten to big of a bite. or didn't chew enough for the food to fit through the band. -
my dog makes me walk once a day. i have 2.5 acres and i started walking with him after meals. it became a must to him. so even if i am taking a nap he will nudge me and bark at me telling me we haven't gone for a walk yet. it was funny tonight. with the sun going down so early i just got on the treadmill. he came into the room, now i am talking about a 115 lb. german shepard , he tried to get on the treadmill with me. he wanted to walk with mommy. do simple things to exercise. you will more than likely keep that up than a regimen that you don't look forward in doing. good luck

Lapband for my brain!
terrydumont46 replied to Watchershrink83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my brain won't stop either. today i had a depression day. not about the band but other stressful stuff. i reverted to my old self and just couldn't get satisfied. i was constantly in the kitchen. and i knew what i was doing but couldn't stop it. i finally got on the treadmill and came straight to the computer just to stop my wandering and eating. i think we are all a work in progress. fighting everyday just like a alcholic would be doing. good luck to you. i understand totally. -
i ate celery and peanut butter once. i tolerated fine. like missy said you try it and see. i don't think any food is restricted except high calorie foods. but some ppl don't tolerate food the same. i can't for the life of me eat deli turkey weird i know but it's on my avoid at all cost. also left over meat. i don't care how moist or if it is smothered in sauce i can't tolerate cooked meat reheated.

I have pooped, but not a good one!
terrydumont46 replied to melanndoll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had the worse time after surgery. never been constipated in my life. how could i be with all the food i was eating? i finally called my doctor and he told me to use miralax. i used it in my protein drink. sometimes fiber pills can do just the opposite of what you are wanting from them. just think of it, if you have diarrhea you would want some more fiber to harden up your stool. so i took the miralax and 2 dulcolux(SP) and in the morning i really did have a nice bm. -
My band is bipolar! Stuck!!!
terrydumont46 replied to Christina.Rose's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
and i have papaya. just didn't know. thanks will give it a try next time -
i too was out and about today. i stopped at jack n box because it was close to my designation. living out in the country doesn't give me much choice. i got the whole wheat chicken fajaita. didn't eat all of it but most of it. when i got home i looked it up for the nutritional info so i could put it in my food log and it was in line of protein, fat, carbs and calories that my doctor has set for me. i was surprised because it tasted so good. i think this is the first time since surgery 5 months ago that when the lady said do you want that in a meal? i said back no! just the pita and a cup of water. it felt good. usually pre surgery i might have ordered 2 meals so no one would suspect i was the only one eating it. so glad that is behind me. God, it feels great to feel good. doesn't it?

Everyday I ask god to give me strength
terrydumont46 replied to ineed2dothis4me's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
my household rule was school or rent you pick. if you go to school we pay for everything, if you don't you pay us rent. out of 3 kids, 1 went to the university, traveled europe for a semester and we paid everything. but she even worked while taking a full load. the other quit school, but she did work and pay us rent. the son joined the navy. they all said that the rule of school or rent was what made them adults not children. your 19 year old is not a child. there are a lot of jobs for a cute blonde girl. and you need to stop worrying about them if you stay stressed out you won't be successful with your band. it is" you" time they are old enough to appreciate that. -
My band is bipolar! Stuck!!!
terrydumont46 replied to Christina.Rose's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i was like that a few weeks ago. my doctor explained how easy it is to get swollen over really simple stuff. mine was water. and the rest of the day i couldnt even sip fluids. finally someone on here told me to drink warm tea. i also took a pain pill at the same time. i had to chew it, yuck. all of the sudden the tea was staying down. something relaxed i guess. even after this awful incident i got a .5 cc fill 2 weeks later and i am doing better than ever. how i get unstuck on items is walking. than i try a little bit of water, it usually makes me burp which makes me feel so much better. the air from my stomach likely unlodges the item stuck. i try hard not to spit up. good luck -
In need of encouragement
terrydumont46 replied to mslele74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am 5 months banded now. i just got my 3rd fill. i have 5 cc in a 10 cc band. i am for the first time feeling satisfied between meals. i am also being real careful not to overeat. my doctor spends a lot of time going over protein, carbs, fats, sugars, and calories i am allowed with each meal. this takes a lot of time, but i know i will be more successful than just eyeing and hoping i got it right. i don't think i am all the way into the green zone but between fills i am really reading, learning and educating myself about diet, exercise and the band. don't fret everyone is different. you will feel it. it is a nice feeling because i don't think about food all the time. -
How to get a new PCP to sign off on lapband?
terrydumont46 replied to Wendydarling19's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i just had to get medical records from a doctor who treated my husband 6 years ago. i called the office she used to work at and they gave me her phone number. and she had his records still. if his office has closed all together the hospital he worked at may have the records. -
i want constructive opinions. so feel free to blast me and blow me away if i feel sorry for myself or are looking for support in something i did being stupid. most of the time this is the best way to learn and i have a lot of learning to do

Sleep Test Results...
terrydumont46 replied to BillieG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
with my sleep study i also was diagnosed with nacrolepsy but i also had severe sleep apnea. even though my husband says i don't snore anymore i still wear my cpap, it gives me a better night sleep. as for the nacrolepsy they started me on allderal(sp) i took it for several months until i started having anxiety attacks. since the anxiety only started after this new medicine was started i contributed to the allderal. but if they do prescribe a med. it is the kind of med that can help you lose weight. good luck -
i agree with you on the missy front. she has been so helpful and i really look up to her. so thank you missy for all the education and support you give on the site.

Crying in poison from my lap band port
terrydumont46 replied to alliegurl612's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
if anything is bad enough that it makes you cry you need to call your doctor. i am 5 months out and only recently when i am doing my walking do i feel the pinching at the port site. but it isn't so bad that i want to cry i just reach up and hold it with the palm of my hand. -
so many think that the band or any wls is the easy way out. this is the hardest thing i have ever done. but at least i have the confindence that once i lose the weight this time i will keep it off. i am learning so much , no wonder i was obese and couldnt lose weight on my many diets .

terrydumont46 replied to Monykaperez1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ha, we just had a posting just like this. look under view all and you might find all the wonderful suggested protein drinks. i like nectar and click. you can find it on amazon. just get the vanilla flavor and add your favorite flavor to it like a crystal light etc.
