Help! Gaining Weight And Can't Get Back On Track!
terrydumont46 replied to Snoops's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
boy i was reading your story and thought "that could be me". i think you really need a talk with yourself and try to remember how great you felt when you weighed your lowest. it had to feel so good. start walking and do your thinking than. at the age of 56 , same age as me, we have so many health issues we are going to face naturally that facing them thinner will be so much easier. food is just a temporary satisfaction but every pound you lose will be better and last longer than that one mouth full of cheesecake. you did it once you can do it again. i have faith. good luck and best -
Rule Follower - Looking For Monthly Meal Plan?
terrydumont46 replied to ccjll's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
my doctor gave me this plan to follow per meal. 3 meals a day . Calories-300-400 protein----20g carbs-----15-30g fat-------5g sugar---5g total intake for calories a day is 1000-1200 i try and follow this as well as i can. but it seems as if my fat is always higher and my calories lower. it's going to be one of my talks come this monday. my fat intake is things like avocados, etc. not butter or oil. she also wants me to concentrate on keeping it a cup or less of food. hope this helps. . -
most doctors have their area that they will put a port but sometimes during surgery they have to change their port site to another place because of your anatomy. the largest incision you have is the port incision. your port should be right there. if you have an incision that has come apart you need to see your surgeon. it is his responsibility to insure you don't have a infection started or another problem. my port is to the right of midstern and about 2 inches below my rib cage. so you see by the postings that a port could be almost anywhere. again you need to see the surgeon. good luck

Kinda Gross, But Constipated! Suggestions?
terrydumont46 replied to bamagurl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i had the worst constipation in the world after surgery. what worked for me is miralax in the morning with coffee and 2 ducolux in the evening if i didn't go during the day. now i don't work so don't have to worry when things get going but these 2 things have been a life saver for me. -
your doctor should be able to withdraw Fluid from your band and see if you are losing fluid. my doctor always withdraws the fluid first to see how much is in the band and than puts it back in with whatever fill i am getting that month.

3 Days Post Op And Feeling Weird!
terrydumont46 replied to Raool2300's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
still, call your doctor if you have any concerns this soon after surgery. try drinking slower. just sips . you are still swollen from surgery. especially the Protein drinks. and do a little walk around your house after the liquids. gravity may help everything move a bit smoother . -
Pre-Op Need To Know's
terrydumont46 replied to Coach0407's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i wish my doctor had this website to give me. it was and is what has taught me more about everything you mentioned in your post. i have now insisted my doctor give this website out to the other patients. just read all you can from here. you will learn so much. post a question when the need ever arises. everyone is different and has different problems. the only advice i have to offer right now is ...do what your doctor has ordered you to do....... the pre-op is a very individual thing that your doctor wants you to do. good luck -
Thanksgiving Resolution Or "pre New Years Resolution"
terrydumont46 replied to SandyM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i like this too! going to do it. i won't have to change to many things but i do want to concentrate on the amount of food. i want to concentrate on stopping before feeling full and to keep to the 1/2 cup to cup of food in 3 feedings. i also want to work on having my dinner as the last thing i put in my mouth. i don't need Snacks because i am not hungry but always stray to the kitchen to have a snack. the other night my husband yelled from the other room, "are you asleep" thinking i was sleep walking in the kitchen. geez. i need to stop night time eating. -
Very Excited, Scared, And A Lot Of Other Emotions
terrydumont46 replied to evh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am 56 and was banded may 29, 2013. i have lost 40 lbs but do go on dec. 2nd for weigh in. hoping i lost a few more. i did the band because i just wasn't successful with diets. i tried for over 2 years with nutri system, weight watchers, south beach diet, counting calories, and no carb diets. my blood sugar remained in the high 200's to 350's. so this surgery was a life saving one. i am glad that i had it and have no regrets. this web site is the best. the ppl on here are so very helpful and will help get you through your first couple of months. so good luck -
i didn't get stuck either. i was scared that i would so i ate very little. and i loved my dressing and gravy. don't like my blood sugar so much tonight.

i so agree. i am just so happy to show my family how far i have gotten. they will see this when i eat tomorrow. tonight we had hamburgers and i was apparently playing with my food. my daughter asked if i was still hungry, no but i haven't eaten enough to call it a meal. she goes, well isn't that what the band is suposed to do? for the first time in my life i don't finish the food on my plate. it's a miracle -

What Am I Doing Wrong? Or Is This Normal?
terrydumont46 replied to skinnysomeday1211's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
when i was post op about 2 weeks i decided to record all the calories i was eating, including Protein drinks. my calorie intake was much much more than i thought it was. so was my protein intake. i didn't need 3 Protein Drinks a day . keep track for awhile. and walk. you can't do much more at this point but you can take little walks. -
along with the pain you should also check for increased swelling, redness, and fever. if you don't have any other problems i would say yes it's normal. it takes at least 6 weeks to heal and perhaps more depending where your port is.

i have given thanksgiving a great deal of thought. i know i will have dark turkey meat and one other side. because i never eat it i think the dressing. but as always i will just put a tbls. on my plate. only my husband has seen me with a stuck issue the rest of the family has not. and sometimes i can't get to a quiet place quick enough. so with all the ppl around i think i will just be good. oh and i will have cranberries with my turkey. i am making a sugar free type. have a great thanksgiving everyone remember you will feel so good about yourself if you can get through the day band friendly.

i walk around but doing the funky chicken might be fun. and it would be exercise right?

Why Did You Choose The Lap Band Vs. Gastric Bypass (Rny)
terrydumont46 replied to Boobear7's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i went into surgery thinking i was having the bypass. i was getting the bypass because it would deal with my diabetis better. but i came out of surgery with the band. they couldn't do the bypass because of adhesions and scar tissue on my small intestine. i am glad now that i have the band. the weight loss is slower but i am healthier than i would have been with the bypass. my diabetis is under control, and instead of 200 units of insulin a day i only take 30 units at night. in a few months we will be adjusting that because my fasting bs and average for the last 5 mos. is 100. by those standards i am doing great. good luck to you and your decision. -
Protein Intake And Bs From Surgeon.
terrydumont46 replied to Mr Kam's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i agree with cheryl. when i read the 250g of Protein i immediatly figured that it was an extreme amount. most banded ppl stick with between 60 and 80g of protein and that amount includes food. but there are blood test to determine if the overdosing of protein is causing problems. i get a panel done every other month for different things. my latest showed high levels of vit. b-12 and ferritin. nothing out of normal is good for anyone. so your client needs his surgeon or primary care doctor to run some blood tests. i think it is necessary here. not everything wrong with a person is because of being banded. banded ppl still get diseases and such unrelated to the band. -
New To The Forum And Saying Hello!
terrydumont46 replied to desertpixie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
i also extend my welcome. this is a good site for info. they got me through the first 5 mos. when i needed help the most. but please promise me that with every advice you get you double check with your doctor. you want to always stay in tune with your doctor. they need to know what you are doing. good luck on your journey. you will love it when clothes start getting loose. -
