Had gastric bypass 8/20/ 15, slow revovery?
terrydumont46 replied to zackly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you have sutures inside that still needs to heal. you don't want to tear a suture or get food caught in the suture line. i was allowed on stage 2 to have soup that was emulsified so there wasn't any lumps in it. i even made my own using chicken beans and southwest flavors. i had 1 protein drink either vanilla protein with crystal lite fruit flavor or chocolate in decaf coffee for a poor mans mocha. a lite and fit greek yogurt and soup. ask your doctor about adding some soup to your stage 2. good luck -
i wore a sundress. didn't want anything like a elastic band around my stomach. get yourself a mumu lol or something like that.

need tips for vsg to rny revision
terrydumont46 replied to imawlsfailure's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have a revision from band to rny. my doctor said it is much harder for us revising to have a good outcome in wt. loss. so I am being so strict with myself. eating exactly what I am allowed and especially amount of food. I am keeping a food diary and fitness pal. I am treating this surgery as if its the first wls I had. I can see what my doctor has said as true. we know the ends and outs of wls. its easier for us to not follow the rules. so my advise. be strict and overly strict with yourself. -
Pain in chest on right side - normal?
terrydumont46 replied to hmj2015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you may still be expelling the gas used to expand your abdominal area. try a heating pad. but your question is definitely one for the doctor if the pain becomes worse. -
Incision issues?
terrydumont46 replied to sjmoney75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had many abdominal surgeries and not one time did a doctor tell me to put Neosporin on it. as for the pain sometimes a ice pack helps especially with the port incision. I had a band and I was told no hot tub for awhile. nothing was said about swimming but I think the thought about this is that a swimming pool isn't the cleanest bunch of Water around. and if your incisions are still healing you don't want the bacteria to get to them. also for the pain try and not turn to your side while sleeping that has that port incision. that might be what is making it hurt more. -
theres a company that makes noodles and stuff out of a mushrooms. no smell and it isn't slimy. I think its called miracle noodle.

can someone please tell me how to change type of surgery? i have been all over the site. i was able to change surgery date and wt. etc. but not surgery type.
-
Click on your own name in the bar at the very top. A menu will drop down. Click MY SURGERY. The first question on the new page is the type of surgery, and you can change it there.

Has anyone gone in for RNY and ended up with the Sleeve?
terrydumont46 replied to MrsAce's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had one aborted RNY and ended up with a lapband due to severe adhesions and scarring. on july 31 went in for a revision and went in for a second try for a RNY and it was a success. -

2nd lapband and still having issues
terrydumont46 replied to Short and Chunky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't mind. about a month before I found out I had begun suffering from reflux. I told my surgeon and pcp. they increased medications for reflux and I took measures like not eating after a certain time and sleeping upright. on the 4th of july at a party I started to have severe chest pain. I could actually see my heart beat or I thought it was my heart beat right through my shirt. I went home and took my blood pressure and pulse and all was normal. so on the first day after the holiday I went to the surgeon who ordered a barium swallow. in the pictures it showed over 20 esophageal spasms. I didn't even have any pain at that time so I can only imagine what the one that caused pain and was throbbing looked like. so the symptoms are reflux, sliming and pbing all foods, pain and I mean severe pain . they unfilled my band and slowly over 6 weeks my diet changed from liquid to full liquid mushy and than regular. although the band went back into place it was just a small slip my esophagus still showed distention, and elongated and spasms. tried to do fills but the reflux was immediate as were pbing all the foods. hope I answered your question. and I don't blame my band. I blame the pa for not ordering a swallow when after a year I had suddenly got reflux and pbing. this is my message to all concern. be a advocate for yourself and your band. always demand a endoscopy or barium swallow when things start going wrong. -
Can't get enough calories to exercise...
terrydumont46 replied to lorilove's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I have a lap band but am revising to bypass. I had to see the nut and she instructed me to make my menu plans with a Protein and a energy. as she called it. like fruit would be the energy. look at the menu plans your nut gave you to see what is listed. if you are only getting in protein you may feel fatigue. -
Trouble eating slowly?
terrydumont46 replied to irishgirl520's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hunger you are experiencing is bandster hell. you haven't begin to have fills so its like you were prior to surgery. really mentally and verbally talk to yourself about your hunger. if you are eating tell yourself you are not hungry that its just your brain telling you, you are. drink a full glass of fluid. and than get up and walk around until you can get control of that hunger pain. I wish you luck. this is the hard part. -
2nd lapband and still having issues
terrydumont46 replied to Short and Chunky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
when my band slipped and I was unfilled I was able to get the band back to correct place. my problem was that my esophagus couldn't handle my pouch. once my pouch even got a little full my esophagus spasmed. my doctor tried to give me little fills but in a 14 cc band I was only able to fill to 5 cc. so no restriction. he refuses to try again. his reason is that my problem will always be present and could cause permanent damage. on Friday I am going in for a bypass. I need to lose enough wt. to get both of my knees replaced so its really important. -
I'm 6 days post surgery and I have a question or more a hungry rant!
terrydumont46 replied to mafai's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call your doctor. lapband diet is a lot less restricted than the other wls. you don't have to worry about sutures on the inside healing. after the first week my doctor advanced me to mushy food.but eating small, slowly, and thoroughly. so call you md office -
How did you know?
terrydumont46 replied to Soon2beslimSamantha's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
my heart stopped. it was a simple leap to wls after that although the heart stoppage had nothing to do with weight. up to that point I tried nutra systems, wt. watchers , south beach diet. calorie counting, exercise etc. and my wt was going up not down. I have always yo yo'd well but this time no. when my wt hit the 300 mark I was done trying with diet programs -
you have terrible reflux. also pb'ing and sliming. when the food backs up into the esophagus you will have pain. I promise if you suddenly have the symptoms you need to call the doctor and ask for a endoscopy.

Has anyone gone in for RNY and ended up with the Sleeve?
terrydumont46 replied to MrsAce's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
my first surgery I went in for bypass and ended up with a band due to adhesions and scar tissue. I am now going in for a revision and my surgeon is going to try again to give me the bypass but I also signed papers for a sleeve. I have surgery on the 31st -
Some of you already know my name. I first went into surgery 2 years ago for a bypass but came out of surgery with a lapband. For one year I did really well and lost from 296 to 215. but problems started and for the past year I have had no Fluid in my band. On july 31,2015 I am going in for the bypass again. I am praying that my surgeon will be able to do the surgery but scar tissue and adhesions stopped the last surgeon and that's why the lapband. I started today the pre-diet of 3 Protein shakes, 1 lean cuisine or wt. watcher and a cup of vegetables. I am truly excited to join ranks with all of you and continue my trip to wellness and health.

What if I don't want to tell?
terrydumont46 replied to Bournetodo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Female problems is always a good one to go to. you don't have to tell anyone you don't want to. when my cousin first had hers done she told everyone that she does the treadmill an hour a day without fail. thhats how she lost her wt. it's nobody's business. good luck -
6 months post op, no weight loss in 5 weeks!
terrydumont46 replied to AC274132's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
because I am revising from band to gastric bypass my doctor challenged me to find the secret calories in my diet. I took this challenge and started logging everything I put in my mouth and I found secret calories in a lot of food and portions. I lost 10 lbs during this last month. eating the same healthy food but weighing and logging. -
How accurate is your calorie counting?
terrydumont46 replied to Sara51692's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I used the scale that weighed your food and than tell you carbs, Protein, cal., fat etc. from there I went to fitness pal and just entered quick calories. after awhile I was able to weigh and than use fitness pal and their food list and eventually I made up all my food choices I use on a daily basis. makes it easy. -
Vitamin (pill form) recommendations?
terrydumont46 replied to Psychsnob's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Even if you swallow it whole the first place it digest is in the mouth and than stomach. some ppl can't take Vitamins. it makes them nausea,, or gives them reflux. my husband breaks out. this is a question you need to ask your nut or doctor. I 'm sorry I just don't have any suggestions for you -
Usually, I'm pretty even keeled, even on the Internet, but some questions...
terrydumont46 replied to no onions's topic in Rants & Raves
when I was still in the hospital after my banding the nurse told me about a man who had had a gastric bypass. on his way home after discharge stopped by mcdonalds and had a quarter pounder and fries. he was back in the hospital and had to have repair done. some ppl never learn. I too hate the drinking questions. we give up soda's why wouldn't we give up alcohol especially the first year. I have a flat head from hitting it after reading some posts -
Disgusted... So I'll just vent!
terrydumont46 replied to CeeTee13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
not many ppl lose a lot of wt. until they start getting fills. I would check with your doctor's office about your diet. you might be able to move to a regular diet by now. you maybe a bit more depressed because of the limited diet. believe me we all go through emotional roller coaster ride during the first months after being banded. it will be okay. but do call your doctor about getting on more of a solid type meals. my incision hurt more where the port is. icing it did help. check and make sure you have no redness, swelling, or warm feeling to the site. is your temperature staying normal? please try and remember that you had anesthesia and that medication could be the cause for your blues. you are healing give yourself a chance. I wish you well.
