Rules for drinking with meals
terrydumont46 replied to MyHighway's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i cannot eat with a lot of Fluid in my pouch it makes me pb right away. what i do is not drink while i am preparing my meal. no drinking during the meal and i wait at least 15min's to do a test sip after a meal. i cannot tolerate fluids with food. but that is me and you will find what works for you the best. -
Lapband support desperately needed
terrydumont46 replied to klmyers1956's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i feel for you and think in spite of it you have done rather well. my husband has had 4 back surgeries and still is having trouble. so i know what kind of pain you are in. at this point make sure you are in the green zone., and eat healthy. Protein first, vegetables second, carbs last. eat fresh wholesome food. and i wish you all the luck in the world. try not to be hard on yourself. but i do have to say one thing,,try to think about the weight loss as yet another treatment for your back. and Water exercise would be very beneficial to you. best wishes -
in response to missy, i have a large mass just above my port incision. i just thought it was normal. it started hurting and i had to hold it when i walked. the pain now goes to my back at the waist line. i asked my wls surgeon and she said that it wasn't normal and she didn't think it was band related. so i went to pcp. he ordered a abdominal ultrasound r/o hernia, hematoma, but what the ultrasound tech found was a huge gallbladder. no offical report yet but i had 3 ppl including the radiologists come in and take more pictures. so all the pain and nausea could be my gallbladder. and i just thought it was all normal. when there is pain and it becomes a interference with our life we need our doctor's to sort it out. once it is determine everything is okay than we try everything that is suggested here. keep us posted. i hope it isn't anything and a heating pad would help.

i just had a thought. my doctor just gave me advice on the first bite of food i eat in a meal. she told me to take my first bite eat slowly swallow and than wait a few min's before another bite. the reason she has given me this advice is because so often i feel stuck after my first bite. what you are describing as restriction perhaps this is the problem. after i wait a few min's i continue with my meal and can eat my meal without problem. it's just getting past that first bite. it's to bad you can't eat fish. it is one of the fastest meals i prepare. i poach my fish. it gives it plenty of liquid for easy eating. and with a salad or cooked vegetable wala meal done. poached chicken is just as good. don't concentrate so much on what you don't want to eat but rather what makes up a balanced meal.

i am sorry i didn't respond to you and you started this thread. i am wondering if your band has a leak. where you might think you are at 10.2 cc, perhaps you are not. a mistake i hear about a lot is that you actually have a 14 cc band. ask to see the surgical report. on your next appointment asked that the Fluid get withdrawn to make sure there is 10.2 cc. now someone once posted that he had the right amount of fluid but that the fluid was collecting only on one side of his band. i haven't needed one but perhaps a fluroscope while you drink would allow the doctor to see how restricted you really are. once you get this band thing straighten out you need to put on your thinking cap and try and remember why you had wls in the first place. i know you were gungho than and you can get some of that back. perhaps a counseler. we didn't get overweight for no reason at all. we all have food issues. don't give up. get this band thing worked on. something is wrong.

why do you blame the band when you are not compliant. eating chocolates isn't on any diet plan i know of. i had my surgery also in may. may 29th i have lost 44 lbs. i am just now getting to the green zone. i still need small fills to achieve this but i knew, you knew, anybody that has wt. loss surgery knows ,you can't eat whatever you want and lose wt. even with the sleeve. you still have a stomach, you still absorb calories. and the only way the sleeve will work is if you are compliant to a diet plan. ppl that have the sleeve and gastric bypass will run into the same problems as ppl that have lapbands. yes you may lose weight but after a year you will be facing the same thing you are facing right now. eating fresh wholesome food and not eating foods high in calories. if you don't learn this lesson wls, any of them will be unsuccessful for you.

i don't know where to start. the first question is, when did you have surgery? the second question is did your doctor give you medication for nausea? third question is? have you had any fills? the 4th question is, has any xrays been done to determine if your lapband is placed correctly? have you had a upper gi or a endoscopy? i need more info to be able to give you my opinion. and that is the first thing to be learned here is our responses are opinions your doctor should be your number one advice giver. but i take a lot from this site to my doctor to ask about things. give us a little more to go on. because we love to give our opinions. we want to be helpful.

i have a large glass that contains 32oz of Fluid. i have either Water or crystal light in it. i drink on it all day refilling it when it gets empty. as for meals. i figure the time i am preparing my meal is enough time to not drink. and than i wait 30 min's after my meal to start drinking again. remember everything liquid should count in your fluid intake. this container i use has a lid that i can put on and take with me in the car.

Reglan/Metoclopramide 10mg- Scared
terrydumont46 replied to boymom2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you are describing exactly what it feels like to have the gas. your doctor is prescribing the medications because this is what has helped with other patients. warm fluids, walking, heating pads will all help too. i take prescription strength pepcid. it's what i was started on in the hospital when i started vomiting. perhaps you wouldn't need to take the medications for long. he just wants to get you over the hump i think. get to walking. even if it hurts. also don't forget pain medication. i am sure you were sent home with a prescription. good luck -
That's whats so great about having a lapband. it's adjustable. yeah for us. it's never to late to get your gumption back in gear. so get yourself to your doctor and welcome to the best web site ever. we are here to help if you need it. good luck and let us know what happens.

i always love it when reading a post that the person posting is so right on. i know you will be successful with the band. you are preparing like a champ. ask any question you want an answer to. welcome aboard

good question. if you have a choice don't choose the staples. i have 6 little incisions and 1 big one. and i can still see where the staples were. but they are all fading okay. i don't think the small ones will be noticeable soon

because i was having a gastric bypass at first i learned a lot about it. i think alcohol is more of a concern for them. we still have our stomachs to process and digest the alcohol. but its the calories that we are concerned with. it's the same for fruit juice. just to many calories. and no benefit. but i am going to have my bailey's and coffee christmas morning. one mug full. lol its a tradition and i don't want to upset the cart.

print this page so you can refer to it and show your doctor. don't even bother the receptionists talk to your doctor

you are describing perfectly what it feels like to have something stuck. the fact you can drink is amazing. when i have an episode like you are describing i walk first, flap my left arm while walking and if all fails i will drink some Water. usually this results in pbing or the water comes up like a spit up and it brings the food that is stuck with it. it isn't throw up. it's not coming from you stomach but rather the pouch. but i did have an episode that i needed to stay on liquids for awhile and i found that warm tea was the winner. made me feel better. good luck and welcome to the world of band

No restriction 4 days out
terrydumont46 replied to boymom2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i didn't have any restriction after surgery. i was able to take all my pills and theres a lot. Fluid was a piece of cake. it really had me wondering. but this is the time for learning. we don't eat until we are full. repeat after me, we don't eat until we are full. we eat a portion of food , it satisfies us keeps us satisfied until our next meal. i am really just learning and practicing this now and i am 6 months out. i wish i did it from the very beginning. -
Some slight pain in middle of chest which comes and goes since my third band fill 6 days ago
terrydumont46 replied to Sally Pearl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
you are doing very well. it sounds totally normal to me. my doctor suggested with the first bite of food especially to chew, swallow and than wait a few min's and than go for another bite. sometimes she said that first bite of food can get stuck. the pain you describe is food getting stuck even if its very temporary. -
sure be glad to share, this is what i had yest....breakfast---2eggs over easy 1 whole wheat toast lunch---1/2 of a turkey sandwich with lettuce, 1/2 slice of low fat cheese and tsp. lite mayo dinner --4oz of chicken or fish...once a week i can have beef and believe me it's a steak of some kind, last night was steak night. cooked vegetable or salad sometimes i will bake those little red potatoes and have 2 or 3. snack ---Protein drink...100cal 20grams of protein in coffee and blended with ice. i use this if i am really hungry in the evening. it satisfies me completely until bedtime. once in awhile i will have a Protein Bar. made with chocolate and Peanut Butter. and that is a typical day for me. if i am hungry lets say between lunch and dinner i will make my salad and eat it. or have a banana. i don't like other fruits so only option. i try to think what will give me the best feeling of fullness at the least amount of calories with the most protein. i used to be afraid of carbs because i am diabetic but my surgeon convinced me that carbs are not bad. and he was right. my blood sugar is staying normal. it's the amount that makes blood sugars high. to your oatmeal add some chopped apple and nuts. protein and bulk. will satisfy longer. for my salad i make my own dressing. a vinegar and mustard based salad dressing. i use a bottle that last me about 2 weeks. i will put in about 4-5 tbls. of olive oil. salt pepper and garlic. sometimes a bit of honey. i don't use butter on my toas i let the egg yolk moisten the bread, but will use low fat mayo when there is a call for it. i cant eat deli meats unless there is mayo on it. i do use your cottage cheese for lunch at times. but i add chopped tomatoes and sometimes some leftover cod to it. more protein without adding a bunch of calories. and it's filling. good luck
-
sometimes it's really hard. i really work at making my 3 meals a day count. i don't use sliders for meal times. my one snack if i need one is a Protein drink or bar. but its very rare i need one. also my protein grams are usually good with just the food i choose. some of the food you mentioned in your blog would go right through me. i would be hungry between meals. good luck you have the right attitude going for you

Doing fills with different doctor?
terrydumont46 replied to rbmk14's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i don't think you will have a problem with the insurance. as long as your new doctor is in network. i was going to tell you to come to my surgeon but you are a bit to far. lol. she would not only do a fill but ask you why you havent had one before. -
i used to freeze my lean and fit greek yogurt. i liked the cold. like with everything. if it fits into your calorie count for the day. enjoy. just be sure to count it. and as a newbie think Protein first, and ice cream does have protein.
