I was wondring if someone could explain the process start to finish
terrydumont46 replied to erinm51's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the first step is the orientation. it likely is a seminar with other ppl looking into wls. you will learn a bit about all the surgeries. they all have their plus and minuses. you will also learn about what your insurance company expects. they might not expect anything but all insurances are different. wish you luck on this learn and read and consult as much as possible it will do you well. and by the way i went to 2 seminars with 2 different doctors before picking the doctor i went with. i got great info from both of them but my doctor wanted a more comprehensive preop consults. i have many health issues. so felt more secure with him. -
i am just watching everything on hallmark and lifetime. lol. been crying with all of them. lasts nights was a angel who really was in a coma. she got to come back and finish her life as a christmas miracle. i cried and cried. lol. and now i'm crying because my football team lost. boy. i need fluids badly

i like the answers above. especially trying a teaching hospital or calling the lapband manu. pharmaceudical companies have a lot of programs we are just not aware of they might be of help. i also thought that since you wanted to pay with a credit card use one of the checks that usually come with your statement or go to the cc company website and get a cash advance on the amount of fills you think you will be getting. i don't endorse this but it is another avenue.

My Pre Band Wish List For 2014
terrydumont46 replied to msirish's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
and remember these, if things are tough. in fact print them out and put them on your refrigerator. so when the gas pains start, or a stuck issue happens or if you aren't losing fast enough you can just read your goals to remind yourself why in the hell you did this? so many forget -
Fever post op
terrydumont46 replied to m.simpson88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am just getting over a virus that had a temp just like yours and headaches. my doctor helped me out a lot. gave me cough syrup with vicodin in it. since i am on that pain med. routinely. i also took tylenol flu and cold medicine. that helped for the headache a lot. drink lots and lots. and than wait it out. but i did contact my primary care doctor for help just as you should. he told me that this virus this season has been mild with some folks but he has had to hospitalize a few that got it severely. hope you feel better real soon. rest baby rest!!! -
ribeye for me too and it has to be rare. i eat a steak or at least 1/2 of it once a week. i never heard of cornstarch. but the good dose of salt on the outside does make it have a better sear and crust.

since being banded i got through the july 4th,halloween,thanksgiving and had no trouble. but for the life of me and i am not a sweet eater i can't stop eating chocolate. i love truffles and i think i bought them for my grown daughter's stocking but i ate them all. so tonight i took every piece of candy in the house to my husband and asked him to put them away until christmas eve so i could put them in stockings. my dinner was healthy and no snacking after dinner. i know i can do this. i know how to do this.

What to Pack for Hospital? Bander
terrydumont46 replied to msirish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had planned on a 2 day stay, because i thought i was having a by pass. to many adhesions and scar tissue connected to my intestine prevented me from having it. but i am happier than anyone could be with the band. i think it all depends what other diseases you may have what you may want at the hospital. i wore the clothes i wore home to the hospital. i wore a sundress and sandels since it was the beginning of summer. my underwear didn't fit over my enlarged gas filled belly so if you have a larger size underwear or go commando might be helpful. i also wanted a fan. i needed the fresh air. i finally purchased one from the gift shop at the hospital. or my daughter did for me. take some single glass size of crystal light. i appreciated the taste of fruit. and as awhitmire said. all of hers was good. have a great surgery, hope all goes well and your recovery is speedy. oh oh a pad of paper to write questions for your surgeon if you are staying overnight. write your questions down so you don't forget -
i have 6 incisions, but my surgeon was trying to do a by pass at first. so thats the reason i have so many. the longest one i had was about 5 inches long. and it is where my port is. right in the center on my right side below the rib cage and above the waist line. the others are all over my abdoman about 1 inch in length. it did take longer for the long incision to heal. i had the staples removed on my 2nd week post op. best to you and hope you have a speedy recovery

here are the things you can try. walk of course. even if it's just around the room. pretty soon you will be walking around the house and continue upwards from there....heating pad to the shoulder. ice pack to the incisions, warm drinks. and take pain med's. your discomfort will pass. but it may take a few weeks. drink plenty of fluids. no carbonation. rest as needed. lay on your left side sometimes will help pass the gas as well. best wishes and hoping for a speedy recovery

no no not exceptable. yes we are new but we depend on all the guidance vet's give us. just a like on a response i make is enough to give me a lift. please stay and help out. i do understand if it's getting to you but remember for every 1 person that doesn't except what valuable info you provide there are many many of us that need that mature advice. there are a lot of ppl that have not even posted yet. just watching from the sidelines. i did that for awhile. i learned so much from you guys. i was all alone. my surgeon moved to florida and no support groups. i depended on what i read and learned here. and still learning. and i know i am heading into a different phase of my band as i pass the 6 mos. mark. i need to learn how to relax and just except my new life style. not bent over a food diary and books and food scales. this is the mature wisdom i need from vet's.

Merry Christmas
terrydumont46 replied to cheryl2586's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my family had a white artificial tree. we also had the circle of colors on one side and my dad put a black light on the other side. no he wasn't on lsd. i remember the long walk down the hallway as my dad filmed with his 8mm. if the first one wasn't right my brothers and i had to go back down that hallway and walk it again. we didn't have much but we had each other and that was always fun. thanks cheryl made me go back and remember -

No restriction 3 weeks post surgery
terrydumont46 replied to sdholt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
for the first month and half i didn't have a fill. i was eating an entire steak without problem. i didn't have this site to tell me just because you can eat doesnt mean you should. i am learning now and sometimes i get stuck because i didn't practice this from the beginning. i think the motto here s/b exactly what i said, just because you can doesn't mean you should. practice keeping your food intake to less than a cup of food per meal. if you need to snack, keep them high in Protein. you will be hungry between meals until you have a proper fill in your band and that takes time. so good luck you will do great! -
congrat's and good luck and best wishes on a speedy recovery.

cost of fills in uk
terrydumont46 replied to dream to be slim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my first thought is why are you not done with the fills. i sure hope i am not still getting fills in a year. are you not in the green zone yet? is there a reason you need more fills? -
if i read your question correctly you are asking what we are talking about when we say green zone. this green zone is a place in which you are satiated with a small amount of food for 4-5 hours between meals. as you begin your journey you will begin to get small fills in your band at your doctors. you continue to get those fills until you reach the green zone. i hate using the word restricted but that is what is occuring. the amount of food the band allows you to eat is restricted it begins a process which you feel less hungry between meals. it takes your band and brain to be successful. eating small amount of food no matter if you feel full or not. that is your brain part. be satisfied with , like bandista said, a tennis ball size meal. good luck on your journey

the best day in my life was finding this site. i had already had my surgery and just wasn't getting enough from the doctor's info sheets to be of any help. with no support groups within a 2 hour drive one way i was just a fumbling idiot. the ppl on this site are the best. keep coming back everyday to learn more and to learn that you are normal with your feelings. good luck

Curious....I can't be the only one...
terrydumont46 replied to Sherlock1969's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am not this person to pity anymore. i am so glad i don't have to listen to one more lecture on what i was doing to myself. Lordy be i knew what i was doing to myself better than anyone did. as i evolved so did the ppl around me. their pity has turned to respect. I LIKE IT!
