Feeling AMAZING! New Year New ME!
terrydumont46 replied to enjoythetime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
your wt. loss is awsome. my mouth flew open when i saw how much wt. you lost. good job! your positive outlook is so aspiring. here's to your goal wt. you will be hitting it soon. -
i was a smoker too. but i quit on april 17,2009. the reason i remember this date is because it was the day i learned my kidneys were failing. since i was in the hospital for 2 weeks and my daughter was pregnant i couldn't find one reason to resume smoking after my release from the hospital. my kidneys are perfectly healthy. they shut down because of being dehydrated from a illness. i still have a craving for a cigarette. especially with the same triggers such as frustration or anger hits me that made me eat. i will sit down in my chair and actually reach for the pack of cig's. it's a strong urge. but i know smoke 1 and i might as well give in. like potato chips i couldn't stop with just one. same with food. the same triggers make me think of the most fattening foods i could fix myself and be oh so happy, but only for awhile. i stay away from food as i do cigarettes when those triggers hit. get to know your triggers. i bet they are the same for smoking as in eating. good luck be healthy walk instead of smoking.

Several successful years post-op, pregnancy, band loosen, miscarriage, refill, still slowly gaining weight 7 months later

i am so sorry for your loss. i agree with cheryl but i also want to put out there that you might be depressed. since food is a crutch for us, we wouldn't be overweight if it wasn't, perhaps you aren't quite over losing your baby. you seem to have the knowledge and seem to know how to work the band. i say keep eating healthy, exercise and the wt loss will follow. having your Fluid checked isn't a bad idea either. -
the diarrhea you describe sounds just like what i had when i was taking a certain drug. i hated it , out boating and my husband would have to take me back to the boat launch. i never had a solid stool during the time i was on it. so check your medications in case the doctor missed something. the other problem i had was hyperperistalses. that is when the intestines move to fast. it causes pain and loose stools. it has only shown up on 1 of the many upper and lower gi's i have had. the doctor says that it goes into remission is why we don't see it all the time. the medication is hyomax-sl. i was just thinking that if you have even the smallest of food allergies it could get your intestines going. i hope you get to the bottom of this, no pun intended. but taking out the band should be the last resort but at least discussed. some ppl can't tolerate all the Protein that we eat this could be the problem too. perhaps a barium swallow to follow the barium as it goes through the digestinal tract. good luck. and i do hope you find out what the problem is even if its the band. i just though of another one, diverticulitis, a upper and lower gi missed this but a barium enema did not on me. just some ideas

we had surgery at the same time. i also lost my mother on 11-12-13. she had dementia but the one thing she remembered oddly is that i had wls. so when i visited she would always ask me how it was going. I just didn't count on how emotional wt. loss was going to be. Everything in our life effects us one way or another. i am finding strenghs i didn't know existed. especially when one of my eating triggers rears its ugly head. so stick in there you will do fine. healthy eating to you

Happy 2014, off to a good start
terrydumont46 replied to RSifers's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had headaches for awhile. they got to be really bad. i had to go on medication for migraines. but i haven't had to use any medication for about 2 months now. so it's as cheryl says your body will get used to your different food choices. hang in there. and good luck with your surgery. i hope post op is uneventful and you heal up fast. -
How I cheated my band but found my way back (sorry kind of long)
terrydumont46 replied to Starstruckgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
All of you are wise beyond years. i think and believe that every one of you can and will succeed again with your band. i am not going to preach i just wanted to say i wish you guys all the support you need, and eyes to read your problems and some gentle or maybe not so gentle advise. depending on my mental status for the day i can be a little hard. but my wish for you is a happy, healthy, leaner 2014. -
Eight Weeks Out and a New Year!
terrydumont46 replied to Bandista's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i know exactly how you are feeling. i promise you that when you get the fill that puts you near or at the green zone you will be elated. i finally know what the vet's have been talking about. wahoo!!!! i had a small pb and my husband looked at me and said i am so sorry you are going through this. i told him no this is exactly where i'm susposed to be at. my band is working. this makes me happy. i swear i think he is ready to call the loony bin. tonight was the first night i had dinner and i ate without a problem. so happy. i actually did a little jig in the living room, so hang in there, i know you already know the how to's. happy new years to you too! and heres to a slimmer, healthy 2014 -
your band hasn't been adjusted yet so it is wide open. you still have swelling just from the surgery. but don't eat like you did before. this is the time where you learn discipline and eat as if the band is filled. it is hard. i think you are still on liquids so drink as much as you want to feel satisfied. follow your doctors plan as to when you can graduate your diet. always follow your dr. orders. it really is important

there are quite a few ppl on here that have had it. it wasn't even offered to me and this is one question i am going to put up to my doctor. it is a modified sleeve. no cutting just the use of sutures to make the stomach smaller. i haven't heard anyone complain about it. and they seem to lose a little bit faster.

New Year's advice for the newbie?
terrydumont46 replied to Corridor72's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
my best advice is to learn patience. getting fills require a great deal of patience. you have the food down and the exercise so i thought i would throw in a mental aspect of the band. -
Awakening the Beast Inside
terrydumont46 replied to Leepers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
this is a hard time for bandsters. as sandy said bandster hell. right now you are on a diet. i think that with the band they should do a lobotomy too! our brains are so strong. you really are not at the point where one meal will be satisfying for long. this is where you need a lot of healthy Snacks to get you through until you start getting fills. once you eat something just tell yourself that is it until my next meal. i found that a Protein bar or drink or a banana was food choices i ate that helped. this is also a good time even though it is hard to keep your food intake to a cup full about 3 times a day. really work at it. it will come in handy when the band is being adjusted. to learn how to eat during this period you are in will make your life a whole lot easier later down the road. eat as if you are in the green zone. -

okay take a deep breath. i have never heard of a doctor doing such drastic fills. i had surgery about the same time as you and i have had 6 fills altogether and am just at 7cc now in a 14cc band. going slower allows you to get used to the band with each fill. there is something wrong here. either you need to unfill to stop the vomiting or check and see exactly how much fill you do have. the band isn't there to make you eat healthy or to stop eating its a tool to help you not be so hungry so you won't overeat. but what we put in our mouths is up to us. but you may also need a counseler to talk things over with. we all have food issues and if it wasn't for my psychiatrist that i talk to and who gives me pointers and ideas on how to cope i don't know where i would be. perhaps you need one to figure out your triggers and why you can't control your eating. you have already taken the first step and that is taking control of your life by having wls. now you need to work with your band to finish the battle you have taken on. i wish you lots of luck and a slimmer happy healthy 2014.

i want you to answer some questions to yourself. are you running a fever? is there swelling? is the discharge clear or pus? is it getting more red and inflammed? is there more pain at the site? is anything rubbing on it? like clothes. have you tried neosporin or triple antiboitic ointment or, i did solarcaine spray. works well for me. clean it with a little peroxide . now if you answered yes to my questions especially the fever one your doctor should respond. sometimes it's very hard to get passed the receptionists. it is their job to triage the calls to the doctor. but they are not medical ppl. also dry your incision well after a shower. and no baths or hot tubs. not until your incision heals. if you are concerned your doctor office should fit you in for a appointment. you may need a oral antibiotic but only your doctor can decide this. good luck and i hope everything is okay

1 year, 1 month after surgery and pregnant! Advice!?
terrydumont46 replied to smellslikecoffee's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
since i am to old to have a baby i cannot advise on that. i will advise on what i would do. first. tell your surgeon, it doesn't matter if you haven't lost wt. right now your concern should be only about the baby. i am not against mid wives but remember she doesnt have the medical background to deal with your lapband. and perhaps your surgeon knows of a good midwife that he can recommend that he works closely with. i would think that a partial unfill would be done. you need to be able to eat more because the baby will take what it needs nutritionally and leave you what is left and with the band filled it may not be enough. but how exciting for you, a baby!!!! congrat's and here's to a healthy and safe delivery. -
Can keep down solids but throw up liquids... Bizarre?
terrydumont46 replied to Katie L.'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Fluids can be just as troublesome as solid food. i once drank just as i was getting up in the morning. and it was a gulp. it caused me to get stuck and i swelled shut for the day. i mean i was on my way to the er to have Fluid removed from my band it was getting that serious. but finally i was able to take in some fluids and i was okay. so yes fluids can cause problems. try taking a sip or bite of something and let it go completely through before taking another sip or bite. this gets your gi ready for what you want to introduce to it. the first place digestion takes place is your mouth and the saliva in it. we need to prime our esphagus and pouch in the same manner. -
Giving up meat is not the end of the world
terrydumont46 replied to cheryl2586's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i love meat. but i am now realizing that perhaps meat isn't going to be the big thing on my plate. today i did research on what foods make a complete Protein. there are a lot of foods that i love that together make a complete protein so i'm not going to be sad anymore. says I, until i see someone eating a rib eye steak. but i know i am still adjusting but i like to plan ahead. -
How long before the shoulder pain goes away
terrydumont46 replied to CAtoTX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you are doing what you are supposed to be doing. sorry but it does last a bit. use your pain med's to see if they will help. if you don't have a prescription for it ppl say that ibuprophen works better than tylenol. you can also call your doctor. there are medications he can order to help. but generally speaking it is just something we need to go through. hope it goes away soon. -

NEED help reviving my motivation
terrydumont46 replied to Ricksgal_1996's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i don't know much about the sleeve but if you would like to try what bandsters do is just eat 1/2 to 1cup of food 3 times a day. Protein being the biggest portion of your meal. we eat healthy and exercise. for your wt. loss to continue you need to either cut your calorie intake or up your exercise intensity.keep a food log. try and see where you are eating to many calories. you maybe eating more than you think you are. get a scale. weigh your food. good luck. here's to a healthy you in the new year -
doctors make mistakes. my surgeon moved to florida after my surgery and the next surgeon made a mistake putting down on his notes i had a 10 cc band. i was getting fills according to that info. and than i was changed to a pa whom i love and she looked at my surgical notes and found i had a 14cc band. i am caught up now on fills and maybe reaching the green zone. am i angry, no, the mistake actually gave me more time to get used to the band and to learn all i can about fills and what to expect. the one question i have is do i need to know what type of band i have? i don't think the subject has ever been brought up.

i am still wearing my old clothes mostly. so it hides my wt. loss. no one ever talks about it. i think they are trying to just let me be me. what i am going to wait for is, one time when i was on yet another yo yo diet and lost a lot of wt. my husband looked over the table at me and said that my face reminded him of the face he first fell in love with. it sounds corny but i am hoping that happens again some day.

Confession: I fell off the wagon 4 1/2 yrs post op!
terrydumont46 replied to Lady Lap Band's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i was actually looking at the posts and saying to myself without the band the wt. gains would have been a lot higher. i know i could gain a bunch of wt without the band. it's nice that we have this option with the band. a little adjustment with our mind and with the band can make the difference in wt. loss. good luck to all of you. it sounds like you guys know the deal. happy new years to everyone.
