Using a Journal to Increase Self-Knowledge
terrydumont46 replied to DivaStyleCoach's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i am a journeler. the first thing i did after surgery is make up a form that has a format for a food diary , Protein, fat, carbs and calories count on it. it also has a list of my supplements so i can just put a check. but i also put on it a place that i can list my activities for the day as well as a place i can put how i am feeling that day. . was i angry, was i sick etc. so i can look back and see what was happening to me on that day. my doctor loves it. she can see quickly the things i was eating vs. how i was feeling. we were able to spot different triggers for me. i think what you wrote are an excellent idea for all newly banded ppl. -
it really helped to think about my liver. if your liver is enlarged and your surgeon is trying to put the band in and can't because of your liver being to big you will wish you didn't go off the diet. one more thing i need to add. you will continue to diet even after the band is in place. now is the time to learn discipline. you are going to need it after surgery as well. the band is a tool to help you loose wt. but there isn't a band on your brain. if you are having trouble staying on the diet you may need some counseling. please listen to yourself and know that you really need to rein yourself in and think about what this all means to you. i wish you well and i wish for you a successful surgery

How did you handle the Holidays?
terrydumont46 replied to NewMeDebbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i did great through the holidays and even lost 6 lbs. but not so much the last few days. do you all know what moose munch is? well i opened it and ate some one day. the next day i wanted more but instead threw it in the trash. a whole dang bucket of it. shoot. i have had to put christmas Cookies in the freezer out in the garage and had my hubby hide the candy in his man cave. i am not even a sweet eater. but i had a fill on the 26th and all the things i mentioned above are sliders to me. not one stuck issue on sweet stuff. man i had to clean house. because i am hungry and am trying hard to reel myself in. -
Banded in June 2010 and nearly all my weight is back on
terrydumont46 replied to Crispaholic's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i can't believe your doctor said that either. but i will concede that the band or any wls isn't for everyone. now with that said. and since you do have that band i hope you try one more time to have it work. my suggestions are, your doctor or a new doctor to assess your band and the fills in it. second a nutritionalists who will advise and remind you what to eat, and how much and lastly a psychologist, someone who can help you figure out why you are eating and indulging as you are. we all have mental issues dealing with food. we all have triggers that make us want to eat. they don't just go away. i have a psychiatrist i see, who helps me and i think most ppl that are obese need some help. i hope you decide you want to lose wt. again. and here's to you for a brand new you -
Lap Band and Respiratory problems?
terrydumont46 replied to Goalmet's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
no way to live. i am so sorry. illness is so stressful. i do pray that your cause is found soon and that the doctors are treating this as serious as it sounds. i get congested heart failure when i am loaded with fluids. it happened when i had wls. one minute i was walking the hallways just fine and than taking 10 steps was so hard. i knew what was wrong i have cardiac arrhythmia's and one of the side effects is congested heart failure. the Fluid was going in my lungs. i kept telling the nurses to stop the iv. even insisted in giving me boluses of fluid because they said i was dehydrated. uggggghhh. so i know what not being able to breathe feels like. when i got home from the hospital bearly crawling up the few steps i have to take i went straight to my medicine cabinet and took 160 mg of lasix. i pee'd and pee'd so much that i just pulled up a chair to the bathroom because laying down and getting to a upright position took to long and was to painful. i pee'd myself one time so decided just to stay in the br. but it was all worth it. i could breathe again. oh man. so i know how you feel. and i really sympathize with your situation. i hope you have a inhaler and are on med's for asthma. at least that until your insurance kicks in. -
why does plication help with pbing, sticking, or slimming? and i want to know why i wasn't offered this before surgery. my next visit with the doctor you can be sure i am going to ask. does it help with the hunger part?

Gained Some Weight Back...Frustrated! Help!
terrydumont46 replied to kristen1105's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i wish i had the magic bullet to give you so everything would be okay. i don't. my advise. seek professional help. we are all mental food junkies. we eat because of our attachment to food. perhaps talking with someone who can help you find out the reason you think about food like you do would be helpful. a counseler would give you little tricks, to conquer some of those brain craziness. i think you know that because you can eat more or eat something doesn't mean you should. perhaps going back to measuring and weighing and logging your food might be helpful. good luck to you i hope the best for you. -
i always have a Protein bar with me and a Protein Drink. but if i had to be eating lunch away from the house i would have hard boiled egg salad ready. a big bowl of salad to put in a smaller container. cottage cheese on the salad. i make my own vingarette, to control the olive oil in it. i don't have trouble with bread. i use sara lee 45 cal bread. 2 slices for a sandwich. cup of soup. cup of chili,

4th week after surgery
terrydumont46 replied to Hollyapplej's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Constipation is usually what everyone is bothered with. miralax for the constipation. drink plenty of fluids. call your doctor before taking any medication. please now for the other problem. please call your doctor. they may have a solution for you that works for them and other patients. but because i have a big mouth i will tell you what i think. some ppl have problems like yours with the Protein drink especially whey. it causes loose stools. some ppl swear by imodium or something like that. or even metamucil. which just adds Fiber to your diet. look at the stuff you are eating. do they have a lot of artificial sweetners. some sweetners can cause diarrhea. but again please check with your doctors before taking anything. your doctor needs to know what you are suffering from and has their own idea on how to correct the problem. -
First fill since being banded 11-22-13
terrydumont46 replied to slomeli84's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
yes. i don't know how your doctor does a fill but my doctor has me raise my head , hold in my stomach muscles and lift my leg off the table about a inch. lol i hurt a lot after the fill with different muscles. the other thing it could be is the vagus nerve. it runs right through the area of the band. it is actually called the pneumogastric nerve. pneumo is chest area and gastric of course is your abdoman. it could be irritated. put a heating pad on it and it should be better soon. if it makes you feel more comfortable call your doctor office just to let them know of your chest hurting. any advice from us should be followed with call your surgeon just to be sure. we are not medical ppl. lol feel better soon -
my husband is in chronic pain. boy he can be grouchy. i just get quiet when i see this mood. thank God for his man cave. i even tell him to go away . we have been married 28 years and he has been very supportive and taking care of me because of a lot of medical issues i have had in our marriage. one day i thought i would kill him. really i did. we didn't talk for days. but one morning we both had enough and even though it was really hard we laid everything out that was bothering us. and we made a pact. before it gets to the no talking stage we quickly remind each other the different things we are going through and that it is those things that makes us angry. we love each other and that will never change. another thing we are doing is more physical touching. longer kisses. etc. with all the pain medications and i am on 25 pills just in the morning we have found that the physical side of our relationship took a dive. thank God we are devoted to each other. most marriages would have crashed and burned. find a quiet moment and let him know how he is making you feel and let him vent too. make a vow that you won't let these things hurt your relationship. i send you prayers you are going through a hard time.

lets see. these are the things everyone says helps pain medication. ibuprophen over tylenol but the medication your doctor set you home with should do the job heating pad ice packs to incisions walking gas-x beano and rest giving yourself time to heal. you have sutures where your lapband and port have been placed as well as your hernia. fluids good luck and speedy recovery to you

Lap Band and Respiratory problems?
terrydumont46 replied to Goalmet's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
if you are undergoing surgery again continue to diet as if your band is filled. losing wt. will only benefit you in the long run. i am so sorry you are having this problem. but you do need to find out the cause. you certainly don't want to go from one bariatric surgery to another that causes the same problems. time to do research. i send you warm wishes and i pray you find relief soon. -
i like hearing this. my knees are giving out on me. last night on the treadmill i almost buckled under. it made me cry. talking to my dog i asked what else could go wrong? i want to lose some more wt. before knee replacement surgery but i think the time has come. but this is one of the many reasons i got wls. my physical problems don't allow a full workout.

What's your favorite protein bar?
terrydumont46 replied to Corridor72's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i haven't done much research on all the different Protein bars but i have bought a few. but one day a couple of weeks ago i was out with my husband and wasn't prepared food wise but in his lunch pail i had put in his favorite bar which is a nu go nutrition bar. when i read the back of it i found that the calorie count was less than the Protein Bar i was using and the protein was higher. and i really liked the taste and it was a very satisfying meal. 170cal. 11g of protein and 23.5 total carbs. which is online with what i am allowed for meals. i don't know how this lines up with other brands but i like it. i find them at costco so the price is good. i am sure someone knows of a better one. -
what happened to leepers happened to me too. i have bottles and packages of Protein taking up 2 shelves in my pantry. i do use them but only after a fill . once i start solid foods my protein comes from food not drinks. so don't buy up to many until you talk with your doctor and get your orders for post op.

might be a dumb question, but it's about ice....
terrydumont46 replied to Starstruckgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
when i was still nursing we never gave patients post surgery ice cold Water. ice chips yes but not water. the reason. it causes gas. -
i also wanted to lose 100lbs the first year. i am changing my expectation on that one. i will be happy with anything i end up with. i am compliant with the band and do what i can do so i cant ask for anything more. you are doing quite well. so congrat's. and heres to a new 2014.
-
60-80 grams is usually the recommended amount. i like unjury, chike and click. the last 2 are coffee based. i like the unjury chocolate and vanilla. go to amazon.com they have most of all the Protein products listed. a lot of banders also use costco brand. good luck on your surgery. best wishes for a speedy recovery

be very careful with pickled anything. it is loaded with sodium. perhaps you need your sodium checked. i saw a medical show where this woman craved salty pickled anything. it turned out she was low in sodium and was just trying to do what her body was telling her to. good luck
