Managing stress
terrydumont46 replied to melanndoll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am severely depressed right now. stress is a catalyst. stress makes it very hard to handle little things. i am not even allowed to answer the phone. do you guys know how many idiots are on the other side of that reciever. and i'm on a no call list. my husband took the phone away from me when i told a complete stranger to fing off. and don't call me again. oh boy. with my mother dying in nov. i am grieving for my best friend as well as my mom but the thoughts are that i never had time to grieve for my dad who died 2 years ago. i was to busy taking care of my mom. this morning a example of the load my brain cant handle anymore is just a conversation with my hubby , it wasnt an agrument it was just a disagreement. but my first thoughts after he went to work was what can i fix myself to eat. thank goodness i have some goals in place that i want to meet so instead i made a satay of chicken , i took the time to write calories and Protein down so i know what i am eating. i only made it for me. in the slow cooker for dinner. but the time it took to chop, mince, shake, and stir. got me through that self destructive mode. and than i went on a walk. in the rain. so my advise is to try anything to get you through the self destructive mode. it might just give you the moments to get yourself under control. i wish anyone and everyone love. especially if mental illness is in the way. with this said i may not be on as much. i am reading all of your posts tho.. i need to read what everyone is doing. but like this post its winded and i apologize. happy eating. and happy band -

2nd Band surgery and was wondering if your doctor ilnew the answer to my question
terrydumont46 replied to Gcake's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i agree with 2much, that your body didn't do this. that the tubing was defective prior to being put in you. the tubing doesn't come in contact with food. it only acts as a conduit to get saline to your band. now i am not going to say that your body ph wasn't in play. i have a brother that cant' wear a watch because he shorts them out. so anything could be true. but i would think if your ph was involved your lapband would have been crystalized as well. i wish you success with this band. -
all pills post op while on liquids and mushies should be chewable or you need to crush them. but i think you know that now. you are likely swollen from surgery and this stuck episode may have made you even more swollen. you have stitches etc. holding your lapband in place as well as your port. the pill has dissolved by now so thats why i expect you are swollen. try not drinking fluids for a bit. but sip just enough to wet your mouth. use warm tea for now. increase the sip amount a few hours later. do this slowly. if you need to take medication. i don't mean supplements(don't take the supplements right now) but heart medication etc. crush them up unless they are time released. cant crush up time released pills. but once you crush the others add some Water to it. just a swallow. control that swallow so it goes down slowly. and as we always advise you need to contact your doctor to let him know what happened. he may have better advice. good luck and hope you feel better soon.

Help one of our members out on FaceBook!

i went straight to facebook bariatric pal. my response doesnt show up on my personal facebook. -
please check out south beach diet sweet suggestions. one of them is using bakers chocolate. it has 1/2 the sugar as regular chocolate bar. melt it in a microwave, add some chopped walnuts or pecans and than spoon a dollop on a cookie tray. cool and than place in freezer bag. put bag in freezer so it isn't a constant stare at. nibble on one of those for a chocolate treat the trick is to just nibble not gobble. lol. you can make your own custards and puddings using sugar subsitutes. get your thinking cap on. there are many many treats you can make from scratch by subsituting stuff to make them more healthy for you. the idea for Snacks is that you include the calorie count in your count for the day. good luck

Oh god! slipped off the pre - op wagon!
terrydumont46 replied to rosieposie88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you are okay. if we were good dieters we wouldn't need wls. thats what i yelled a lot when i was on the pre-op. although i was on a carb free pre-op for 60 days. but it is important to follow your doctor's advice. you will have to follow advice from here on out. -
if i can remember my drug dealing days a kilo is 2.2 pounds right? just kidding on the fore mentioned. i can gain 2lbs blinking an eye. please remember that as long as you are eating healthy, eating the right amount and throwing a few laps around your living room, you will lose weight. just concentrate on that. your band will help you to not overeat as long as you eat good healthy solid food. i didn't lose a thing one month and the next month i lost 6lbs without changing a thing. enjoy your band and don't sweat about a few pounds, they likely are just Water retention. good luck and best wishes

once a month. i don't think i could do it any faster. being on a 2day liquid and than a 2day mushie and than getting used to a tighter band. ughhhhh.
-
good question. i think i am going to name my band. but since i named my husbands wahoo i will let him name my band. let you know later.

CHANGE DOCTORS. don't get an xray. what is it going to prove anyways. that your band is in the correct place, not how liquids or food goes through. there are lots and lots of doctors in florida. look above and check the tab with surgeons. your doctor isn't treating you as a individual. he is treating his patients as if they all are the same body type, same internal types etc. save your money. 200.00 a fill is also expensive. we had a long long thread about this last month or the month before. you are not in distress right now. so take a deep breath and decide what you really want. a doctor that cares about you and listen to you. some ppl can handle rapid fills but there are others i am one of them that need them to be a bit slower and smaller amounts. you have done nothing wrong. you just need to find the right doctor. good luck

How to know when you have hit the GREEN ZONE?
terrydumont46 replied to BeachBish's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Be careful of sliders. sliders are different for everyone. salads are a slider for me. i can eat salad all day long. it just slides through. thats why eat Protein first no matter what. it will take longer to go through. eat your vegetables next. likely you will not be able to eat a whole cup of food than. the protein is taking up the room. how do you do on, say, a piece of meat. can you eat like you mentioned in your post if you were to have a solid piece of something. that sounds dirty but you know what i mean. it won't kill you to have another fill. if it's to much you can have it removed. that is why this is called a adjustable band. thank God we have this option. i also think i am nearing the green zone. on the 23rd i will get a small fill. i want to see if it will help keep me satiated between meals better. if it doesn't than i don't need it. good luck -
First Day Back To Work
terrydumont46 replied to MistyfortheMountain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
at most pharmacies you can buy a binder. it goes around your belly. it will hold your band in place until it heals a bit better. a back brace turned backwards will do it to. even a ace wrap might work. something to help keep that band from moving. i wish you well -

Medical ID Bracelet
terrydumont46 replied to khelm32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i got mine from medialert. i have so many different illnesses that medialert picks and chooses what they think is important to put on the bracelet. lapband was listed. i got a adjustable band bracelet. when it gets tight i know my band might be tighter. i chew very carefully when i am retaining Water. -
on one of my visits with my PA, she and i discussed my sleeping habits. i keep my husbands hours, he works PM's. going to bed at 2am and getting out of bed at 10.00. i am a fitfull sleeper. i wake constantly so one of my doctors put me on ambien. being bipolar it was important to get at least a couple of uninterrupted sleep. i have been on ambien for about 5 years. well this pa said that the ambien could be the cause for my sleep eating. for most of my night time cravings. sometimes i get up in the morning and look at my kitchen i cleaned the night before to discover what i ate during the night. ugggh. so for the last couple of months i make every attempt to get to bed by 11.00, no sleeping pill and get up by 8.00. that way my day has enough hours in it to eat 3 square meals. i found that i sleep better without the ambien. surprise surprise. and my night time food cravings have diminish. i still have trouble getting to bed at a decent hour but i do try. what i have found from a better sleep is having more of a emotional healthy attitude the next day.

Struggling, but sustaining...
terrydumont46 replied to LenRen25's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
i do wish you lots of luck. its nice to have fantasies. i fantasize about what wt. i will have lost at a certain time. i can't wait until summer! you oughta see me than!! but this is a lot of hard work, sometimes disappointments, and anger. but for every victory i achieve it is pride in myself. i see pride in my families eyes too. it makes all of this worth while. i am glad i am not gaining anymore. i can look forward to getting into those smaller jeans. but even more i can wear shirts i never wore before because my upper arms didn't fit. they fit now. hip hip horray. but you don't need to much luck you have the band to help you with this journey. so my wish for you is a skinnier you so next halloween you can wear a princess outfit. -
3 days and counting!
terrydumont46 replied to Ohio Girl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
welcome to the forum. this place has a wealth of information on it. it literally saved my life. i had already had surgery when i found this site and boy i was so lost and felt so alone until these ppl came into it. so keep coming back and use us over and over again. as far as surgery goes may it be a speedy and uneventful recovery. hope to see you back on here letting us know how things are going. -
good luck to you on your surgery. i wish for you a speedy and uneventful recovery

my port sits on a adhesion and scar tissue so it sticks out a lot. when i walk i have to hold it in my hand so it doesnt move much. if it moves it hits a nerve and causes my back to feel like it is going into a spasm. i am hoping as my wt. goes down so will the belly fat and perhaps my port area won't stick out so much. my pcp and bariatric surgeon are discussing different alternatives for me but it doesnt hurt unless i do a lot without support, i just figure its part of my journey.

i cook 2 meals at night. one for the hubby and one for me. the only time we share the same meal is if its red meat night. like tonight my husband had a chili cheeseburger with fries and i had poached tilipia and green salad. but i am lucky in that my husband works the pm shift so i only have him 3 nights a week. last night we had steak. and i tolerated it without problems. but it took me forever to eat about 2oz of steak. when you are eating more solid foods ask your doctor if they would have a problem with you eating like whole wheat bread. sara lee has a 45 cal a slice whole wheat bread. i like it in the morning with couple of eggs on it. or for lunch. well good luck. and i pray for a speedy recovery for you

ha i have been a pogo member for 9 years. and played pogo before that. pogo is a great gaming site. i love it! it has helped many ppl with disabilities to have a social outlet. try it out. -
and so it is why ppl that have had wls doesn't tell everyone. apparently i just don't care what other ppl think. prior to surgery i worried what ppl thought about what and how much i was eating for a obese person so now i can care less what ppl think about me. iam thinking a long your line of thinking. after this last fill meat doesn't have the appeal it once did. i have books ordered to help me understand vegetarian Protein choices and how to cook and prepare them. and hummus is so good. certainly your co workers know what that is. i loved hummus even before i had surgery. yummy. and hummus can take on any flavors you want it to have. cheryl has great ideas on vegetarian dishes. good luck and no apologizing for what you eat!!!!!
