this is the hardest meal for me. i usually eat a Soup of some kind. i keep the calories to 300 or less. also using sara lee whole wheat bread, 90 calories for 2 slices of bread i make a sandwich using, egg or chicken, i also found that a liverwurst spread goes down pretty easy on me. cottage cheese with something in it usually chopped up tomatoes. or just a salad with left over Protein. i make my own vingarette so i control amount of fat in it.

I too was at the end of the line. I was scared and apprehensive about the whole thing. I wanted to be strong and diet successfully all on my own. I wanted ppl to praise my strength and stick to it until it was done. the last 2 years prior to surgery i just wasn't sucessful. my family knew i tried nutrisystem, wt. watchers, south beach diet, low fat, low calorie, no carbs. etc. and i wasn't losing a damn thing. my blood sugar stayed high. i was so afraid as the scale was hitting 300lbs. my husband and daughter sat me down and told me what i knew, i was dying. so i looked into wls. my daughter went with me to the seminars and did some of the internet searching. my husband didn't care what it cost he would work double shifts. they knew how hard i tried on my own. i continued to be scared but i wanted to live for them. yes i said them. the wt. loss was for me but living was for them. so with all the doubts i went through it and have not regretted one moment of it. if i don't lose even 1 more pound i already feel better my bs is normal and my energy has improved. so be scared , be apprehensive, have anxiety but do it.

Willpower and umm....chocolate
terrydumont46 replied to Pittsburgher's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am the most committed bander alive!!!! but i am having trouble when the sun goes down. i have now thrown in the trash moose munch. it's a carmel coated, chocolate coated made from heaven popcorn. i had some and threw the rest in the trash and still threw some trash on top just to make sure. last night even though it was my birthday i had made a cake using a can of soda instead of egg and oil. my grandaughter is allergic to eggs. her birthday is coming up so i am experimenting. well that chocolate cake turned into my favorite food, brownies. gooey, lovely wonderful brownie. i had a little slice and i knew i would be going back and eating a little here a little there so it went into the trash can. blew my husband away. lol i cant have the stuff in my house. one thought about eating it and i have to or the pain of it all won't go away. i know my depression isn't helping. but i won't get to my next goal if i snack on stupid calorie loaded stuff. for those of you that Pray i need your prayers right now. and i Bless you for them. -
Drinking - why and why not?
terrydumont46 replied to ccjll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once again this is a very personalized part of being banded. i cannot drink during a meal. i don't drink while fixing my meal. i wait until my pouch is empty of food. why??? fluids make me pb. it's quite simple with me. and this works as a benefit for me as well because if i have a stuck issue a little bit of Water will help me either pass the food object or bring it back up so i am not in misery for awhile. now if you can sip a bit of water while eating my hat goes off for you. but if you are not having a problem i see no reason to go against what most doctors recommend. no liquids. keeping solid food in your pouch does send a signal to quit eating. also when that solid food goes into your stomach whether it is sewn or whole will continue that signal. -

terrydumont46 replied to 911dispatcher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
contact your surgeon for a fill. yes our bodies do change and you may need just a little fill to help you continue on your wt loss journey. drink Water before leaving your doctor's office to be sure you can retain fluids. good luck to you i'm wishing you well -

i am so sorry everything didn't go as planned. but you can use this time to train yourself. like using a saucer to fix your meals on. eat no more than a cup of food at a time. chew slowly, chew alot, and eat just little itty bite fulls of food. eat Protein first, vegetables second, carbs last. get your cupboards cleaned out and stocked with liquids and mushy food. take 20 min's to eat a meal. so much you can do since you have the time. good luck

Pb and sliming?
terrydumont46 replied to supraguy17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my doctor feels as if 3 times a month is to much. it's nothing to be afraid of. just really pay attention to your pouch and band while you are eating. they will tell you before you eat to fast,to much or to big. just don't take the one more bite, this is the bite of food that will give you the trouble. you will do fine. -
How much did you lose on post-op diets?
terrydumont46 replied to Wendydarling19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
from surgery 284lbs to my first post op check up which was 2 weeks i lost 22 lbs. i know this because i keep a journal. i recommend a journel of some type. right now it really helps to keep track of my medical problems so i don't have to remember when i am talking to the doctor. -

terrydumont46 replied to lapbandchic73's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i apologize in not advising in calling your doctor. i usually always lead with that. i sure wish you didn't have to have surgery again. i wish you speedy healing and lots of sex afterwards. this couldn't happened again could it? perhaps your doctor could use double thread to secure it -
I've Got Questions, You've Got Answers
terrydumont46 replied to HotButterFly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i had a fill on dec. 26th. i posed this same question to all the veterans because i was having some trouble, they told me to be patient. let things settle it might take 3 weeks to be okay. so i did what they suggested. finally i was able to eat solids and now almost a month i am ready for just one more little fill and than i think i will be in the green zone. but take it easy. be patient. if you are able to drink and eat some mushies you are okay. -
was watching my 2 grandaughters today. 1 is 4yo and the other is 1yo. both of them climbed up in my lap to have a book read to them. i didn't think about it until just now. 2 babies on my lap at once. wahoo!

to much potassium can cause your legs to cramp. it sounds as if you need some blood tests to determine your electrolyte balance. call your pcp or surgeon and inquire. leg cramps isn't normal. maybe once in awhile but not daily. remember your leg cramps are muscles spasming your heart is a muscle. so take this seriously.

what do you do when you are stuck?
terrydumont46 replied to Pittsburgher's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
at first i just sit there, especially through the pain up the sternum part. about 5 min's after the pain i wait and than i just plain give up. i will go to the bathroom where i drink enough Water that sometimes it makes what is stuck go through or causes enough slime and liquid so i pb. most of the time whatever is there unlodges. for the next couple of intakes i make sure with liquids that i am not swollen. i have never vomited though. i also never have reflux. tonight i was in the car and took a bite of some takeout which i knew i shouldn't have and of course i got the sternum pain. since i was driving i did do the left armed chicken flap to make the pain go away and it did. i than just had a bag ready just in case i pb'd . which i didn't. so i suppose as with everything its something that is personal just to you. -

your pouch empties in 20-30 min's. it still has the same ability as your stomach does. -
Came back to forum, because I need support...
terrydumont46 replied to nomorejellybelly's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
i am not a veteran but can offer you some advice. don't cut down on your meat, or Protein. that is what fills us up so we don't eat all the rest of the stuff. make sure you are taking the supplements. i really wanted to talk about you single status. when i got a divorce i was at a normal weight so had no reason not to date, but i had a toddler. i watched my friends bring men in and out of the kids lifes'. i didn't want that for my daughter. so for 7 years i didn't date. i wasn't even asked out. but it was all to my stand offish attitude. i wasn't approachable. as soon as i said okay now its time for you, its time to date i was asked out constantly and was married within a year. that was 28 years ago and i am still married to the man. so perhaps you are putting out those signals. make yourself available, turn on the charms and i bet someone will ask you out. and if they don't than you ask someone out. good luck. the veterans are around. it's the weekend. -
you may have to go through a period of band hell. remember that? go on a 2 day liquid and 2 day mushies, and than add some solids. but really concentrate on keeping whatever you are eating at a cup or less a meal. 3 meals a day. 60 grams of Protein is usually all that is required but that is where a doctor is needed. every doctor is different. but not 75 in one shake. that shake must have a million calories. keep track for just awhile while you are adjusting to less food. keep your calorie count to 1000-1200 a day. 60 g of protein a day, 5g of fat per meal, 15-30 of carbs. per meal, you need to retrain your brain. i wish you luck

Not sure if my port flipped? Dislocated? ANYONE? HELP!
terrydumont46 replied to lapbandchic73's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i don't think you need to be alarmed either. the port will move around a bit even though it is anchored. but with your physical endeavors you may have moved it a bit. as long as you are not in pain, and as long as you can eat and drink you are likely okay. i can feel my port to. as we lose wt. it can become more pronounced. it didn't flip. it is anchored. with sutures. -
Any cavemen/paleo diet followers?
terrydumont46 replied to desertpixie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i eat steak. rib eye is my favorite. i have found with meats that they really either need to be on the rare side or is the moist part of the meat, like dark meat over white meat. i am only allowed 1 red meat a week but everyday i do have chicken, turkey or fish as my Protein. its the way you eat it that is important. a lot of ppl follow the atkins diet. protein isyour first priority. so when you are eating solids that is what you will need to concentrate on. when i was reading your post that avocado and egg sounded so good. lol i love avocado. my doctor does not. great fats he says but calories no. i told him i'm from califonia for Gods sake. i eat avocados. but i have gotten used to not having them. as you will. good luck -
Hello! Newbie with Q's :-)
terrydumont46 replied to hailsmac's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i can eat steak. rib eye is my favorite. i am allowed one red meat a week as part of my diet plan and i make it steak. i am almost to the green zone and i was able to eat about 2 oz of my steak. on my steak night i also enjoy a baked potato. it was only half of a small potato not a football size potato but it is what makes me happy on this one night of the week. see even though you won't be able to chow down 8 oz steak your band just won't allow you. you just can't eat that much. you will be to full. your brain gets that signal that says no more. you individually will be on a road to finding what you can eat and what you can't. everyone is different. good luck. -
yes yes yes. some ppl put it in cupcake tins and than transfer solid chili to freezer bags.

Pre-Op diet question
terrydumont46 replied to DebraSV's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
call your doctor. he needs to know what is happening. he can also advise you on what to do as well as prescribe medicaiton that might help you get through this phase. good luck -
i eat small bites i chew well but i am still working on eating to fast. my husband will let me know if he notices how fast i am eating. as i near the green zone this eating to fast is becoming a big big problem. i wish i had really worked harder on it while my band was still open more. i am going to try a timer because i cant' do it just by thinking it. good luck
