What has your band taught you
terrydumont46 replied to cheryl2586's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
okay this is going to sound a bit off, but what my band has taught me is i am not a failure. i had been on so many diets the 2 years prior to surgery and failed at all of them. i just didn't understand why i couldn't lose wt. like i did before. i yo'd yo'd sucessfully for years. i really hated myself a lot. until my band. i understand now that the amount of food that diets called for was way to much for me. i learned from my band that it is the quantity of food that caused all my failures , even if they were the correct healthy way to eat per the diet i was on at the time. the band taught me not to beat myself up anymore. even though it is hard not to do. but the band taught me so many resources i can rely on like you guys to eat properly and to stop feeling quilty about everything. -
When to tell someone you're dating about the band?
terrydumont46 replied to leighindmv's topic in Singles Forum
i wouldn't tell someone this new in your life. you have no idea how he will handle it. you don't want to become the talk of the office. it's no ones business. order soup. because you like it and its cold. have fun on your date. but as my wise mom said to me when i started dating as a teenager. it's nobody's business about you or your life. your life is just for you to know. have fun. -
Oldie, but a newbie...
terrydumont46 replied to my2sons's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
call your doctor for medication. i take 2 prescription strength pepcid and have a anti nausea med i can take if i get sick. but i never have indigestion anymore. i did prior to surgery but the pepcid has taken it away. i never throw up because the anti nausea medication stops me from getting sick. i don't know when you got your fill but i know with my last one it took a full 3 weeks of going back and forth from mushies, liquids and solids before my pouch and band got used to each other with solids. one thing i am learning is having the band is patience. my doctor wanted me to wear a ring. if the ring was tight so could my band. so it would let me know to have caution with the first meal of the day. -
6 weeks post op. wanting to eat everying after 4 pm
terrydumont46 replied to bluegudren's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
go ahead and eat something. just try and keep it healthy. a lot of healthy choices out there to eat. keep Protein at the fore front and than choose something with that in mind. a Protein Bar, shake, chicken Soup, yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, a banana, a smoothie etc. if you keep yourself satisfied you won't make a bad choice like chips, candy, ice cream etc. -
Anyone scared to eat when newly banded?
terrydumont46 replied to SpartanPrincess's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
heck, i was afraid to take my pills in the morning. and i had a lot of them. while in the hospital the nurse made me sit there in the chair taking them one at a time and chewing them or crushing them. it took a hour just to take pills. so when it came to food i was equally scared. but i found that everything went through without problems including my pills. just take your first bite or sip of anything and let it pass through. it will give you an idea how swollen you still are. -
first fill next week and weight loss.
terrydumont46 replied to megzg08's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
for a day keep track of the calories you are eating. that includes Protein drinks and Protein Bars. i lost a lot while on liquids and than nothing. so i kept track and was surprised that i was eating almost 1400 calories. using even fat free milk with my protein added 110 calories to a already 100 cal. Protein shake and thats 210 calories. and than when i added in my 3 meals and meat protein well you can see how the calories climb. you are to do what cheryl has said. measure your food. good luck -
The Witching Hour - what do you do?
terrydumont46 replied to ccjll's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i cook for my husband and i cook for myself. so i have 2 dinners going. his has gravy, butter, french fries, beef cheeseburgers etc. but as much as i want all that i know i can only eat a small amount and its going to be Protein. i just keep this in my mind. i think if i was extremely hungry a Protein shake maybe a hot coffee Protein Drink and sip on it while cooking. for those that are wondering how to have a hot protein drink just make a paste with your Protein powder first and than add your hot Water or hot coffee slowly stirring all the time. it works the protein doesnt do that nasty thing. or have a salad. make your own vingarette so you can control the fat in it. make this part of your meal. you are just eating it first, salads on the most part slide through the band pretty easily so you will have room for your main protein. don't let yourself get that hungry, being hungry is when we make mistakes it also makes us miserable. good luck -

i always eat breakfast, its lunch that gives me a hard time. but again i eat my breakfast around 11.00 am. i love breakfast. i have 3 eggs and a piece of toast, no butter on the toast. the yolk makes the toast wet enough. the bread i use is sara lee's 45 calorie a slice. even with 3 eggs and slice of toast it is less than a cup and and less than 260 calories. -

terrydumont46 replied to Leepers's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
because you are asking and needing all the info you can get your hands on you are going to be a sucessful bandster. i have never heard of a fill being done this way before. interesting. let us know what size band do you have again? now i am curious lol. have a happy 2 days and i hope everything is good. -
i just started to watch biggest loser. i know their wt. loss is crazy and i could never do the exercise they do but i like looking at how their bodies are changing.
-
you are doing this because everything else has failed. you have fantazied for a while now what it would be like to lose weight. how good clothes would feel, how good it would feel to walk without huffing a puffing, how good it would feel to play, walk, exercise again. how good sex will be , how god it will feel to hold your head up high without feeling embarrsed about the way you look. and the most important is to look fantastic in front of all the skinny binnys that likely talked behind your back. one more thing that i thought about was going to my husbands work picnic wearing shorts or sundress and look great, somebody i know will have to say look at her at her age. yeah i cant wait. i want it so bad and so do you.

i have had to get my food journal back out. with a new medication the dr. put me for depression it seems as if i sleep and wake up thinking of food and eating. with no will power in play. i don't like new medication so am not going to use it anymore. notifiy the doctor and tell him i can't do it ... i rather be depressed than eating at this point. i thought going back to my beginnings where i measured and weighed and jotted down my food intake might help. i didn't do this lap band surgery to fail. damn it!!! i see my doctor on the 23rd and plan on having a fill and discuss what can i do intead of. i wish for spring and summer where the sun stays out longer. i need my hubby to get on board for the country club where i can swim no matter what kind of weather. i could go after dinner when i have my biggest cravings. okay enough. thanks for listening. -
that is one of my first goals i set. i want to wear my wedding ring again. it goes over my knuckle now. my doctor wants me to get a ring to wear so it can fore warn me that i am retaining Water so my band restriction might be less. i told her no the first ring on my fingers is going to be my wedding ring. so nice going so jealous here.

Good or Bad Mushies?
terrydumont46 replied to Neila's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
do one thing for yourself. put a piece of paper on your kitchen counter and everything that goes in your mouth list the protein content and calorie content. Protein content s/b 60 -80 grams a day. calorie content s/b 1000-1200 calories a day. if you are getting enough protein without going over the calorie count than you can call the day a success. but to often what we allow in our mouths is way to much calories. the first time i did this i had managed to keep my protein okay but i had eaten 1390 calories. just with mushies. you are still on a diet. your band isn't helping much. practice being on a diet and eat diet food. sorry i know it isn't what you want to hear but it is the best advise i can give you. mac n cheese not a good selection, noodles give you no protein, so also not a good food choice right now. cream of chicken regular can read the calories vs. protein. not a good choice. but homemade chicken soup that u used yogurt or skim fat milk and pulverized the vegetables and chicken together good protein little calories. there are still rules to follow even though you have a band. i have to remind myself that all the time. -
Sleep Study Question!
terrydumont46 replied to BandedBrunette481's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was a lucky one,. 1 hour into my sleep study the tech came in and put the cpap machine on me and said i needed it badly. after they put the cpap on i slept the rest of the night. when they woke me in the morning i had, had the best night sleep in a very long time. the same day they did a narcolepsy test in which they tested me to see if i fell asleep during the day. and i did. so after a very long night and day my apnea doctor faxed the baraitric surgeon that i was being fitted for a cpap and he okay'd my surgery. good luck on yours. if you need one believe me when i say that it is a real blessing instead of a hassle. i still wear mine when i am not feeling good or have allergies going on. my hubby said i don't snore anymore but i can tell the difference. -

what you are eating are slider foods. they slide right through and your stomach doesn't register them so your i am full signal to your brain hasn't been sent. eating solids will help with that. as you get your fills you will have a bit more restriction and it causes your pouch to send that signal. going slowly as your doctor is doing is a good way. it gives you time to learn that just because you can eat more than a cup doesnt mean you should. you have heard us say that before. but i believe you should be able to graduate from liquids by now. be sure to discuss this with your doctor. tell him you need something with substance. -
Doc won't tell me how much is in my band.
terrydumont46 replied to Angi281's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
i think most of us know how much we have in our band. i have 7 cc in a 14 cc band. i know i am nearing my green zone. i monitor myself to see if i need another little fill or not. but your doctor does have a point too. we all become obsessed with how much fill we have and perhaps keep getting fills instead of judging our food intake and how our intake makes us feel. that is what is important. but on the other hand if i had a emergency and ended up in the er i would want the er doc. to know as much as he can about me and that includes how much Fluid i have in my band. i dunno, legally you have the right to know. -
does the port leak?
terrydumont46 replied to sandra1516's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sounds logical to me. but i would on your next visit just ask the doctor to check how much fill you have. it only takes a second. and be sure you are telling your doctor of your hunger. this helps him decide on the fill he is going to do. sorta keep a record even if its a mental one. i am having to do that now. i question myself as to whether i am eating enough at meal time vs my hunger after eating. -
i made a luncheon spread for my daughter and husband for their moving day. it served all the ppl that helped. and than i drove home and fixed another lunch for the roofers here putting a new roof on the house. i spent the rest of the day going around the house and picking up roofing paper, nails and anything else the roofers threw to the ground. walked to my mailbox which is a football field away from my front door. me tired very tired.

i say wow too! you look great cheryl. -
I want everyone that post a complaint or needs advice to remember this. The first thing you do is call your doctor. And than write us and ask our opinion. i made a mistake by not telling someone to call their doctor and it turned out to be something. Thank goodness it wasn't anything serious, i have always added call your doctor but this time i just forgot to write it. so i am saying it now. always call your bariatric surgeon or your primary care doctor if you have a concern. they are the best to answer questions. now if their advice is crappy we might tell you that and to get a new doctor but always always contact your doctor. i don't ever want to be responsible for your condition to be more unbearable than it is. okay i'm done. have a good life.

Drinking - why and why not?
terrydumont46 replied to ccjll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
lets just be careful here. drinking while eating is a individualized situation. what works for one person will not work for another no matter what doctor wrote what. even if my own doctor said it would be okay i couldn't do it. and if someone told me to do it i would try and try and try and would be pbing constantly. so let's make this extremely clear. it is a very personalized thing. when you get to more of the green zone you may find you won't be able to take those sips of Water. your band and you will know what to do. the reason we want you to follow your doctors orders is that your doctor needs to know what you are doing all the time. God forbid something should happened. your doctor needs to know what you are up to. taking sips of water is the same as what type of foods i can eat verses what kind you eat. i would never persume you could eat rice. i can but i would never tell you to. is my meaning coming through. if you are not having problems and you are just taking sips and letting 20 min's go by before taking a real drink of Fluid you are doing okay. but if you are eating a larger amount of food with each meal you might be pushing the food through to your stomach to fast. believe me when i say hunger is something banders are always fighting and we want to do whatever it takes to keep hunger away. -
i've been married 28 years. my husband married me when i was thin, he watched me go up and down and than up up up. while i was up i didn't like to be intimate. i didn't want him to see or feel my fat. he left me alone. yes we still kissed and held each other and never doubted our love for each other. the other morning my husband asked me if i shaved my legs. i was quickly trying to add up what i did wrong shaving my legs. i couldn't come up with anything so i just told him yes i did. with the cutest smile he said my leg looked so smooth and nice hanging out of the bed covers. he hasn't said anything like that for years. i think it is foreplay for when the time is right for me. and he will wait for me. and he can say all the cute things he wants to. this said your guy needs to back off for the moment. your brain needs to catch up to your ever changing body. but he is noticing the new you. be happy that he is noticing. just explain to him that you need some more time. back the hell off for right now. say it with love.
