Esophageal Spasms
terrydumont46 replied to drehn88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you should be having a stop point before the pain. the pain means you have pushed it maybe even 1 bite to far. i had a spasm once. and i couldn't drink, or eat. for a entire day. Water caused my spasm. it isn't fun and it isn't something you can work around. if you are having one i suggest warm liquids. i sipped tea. and i mean just wet my mouth with it sipped. after a day the tea started to go down all the way to the pouch. i stuck to liquids for days after. and remember that we have nerves running through our abdoman to our shoulder. to me it sounds as if you are getting stuck. i get sternum and jaw pain when i get stuck. and than the slime and than pb'ing. i really really listen so i don't get there. my pouch and band sends off more than one signal letting me know, no more . good luck -
i walked a couple of 6+ today and i wasn't out of breath. i wasn't the last one in the group and i talked the entire time i was walking. it was great.

Still have side ache
terrydumont46 replied to Domika03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
if i had the problems you are talking about i would want to see my doctor. pain and feeling fatigue should be taken to your doctor. at the very least a blood test should be taken. -
i am just reaching my 8 month date. and still trying to reach the green zone. i am dealing with the after meal hunger. but i haven't been to hungry lately and had a fill on the 23rd. that puts me at 8cc in a 14cc band. it is a process so don't rush it learn everything you can between fills.

you have done all the right things. your stuck antiboitic likely caused your stoma to swell. you need to drink a lot while fighting a infection so i think everyone has done the right thing. please feel better soon.

Weight loss is slow...............getting discouraged!
terrydumont46 replied to buddy567's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
please keep track for one day everything you put in your mouth. see if you are eating more calories than you think you are. make sure you keep track of Protein shakes too. some of them could be 180 calories. and than whatever you add it to, well you get my point. i just gained 3 lbs and was totally bummed out. my doctor wanted me to start my food log again. i went the month prior to this visit not keeping track. it really helps to see what i put in my mouth. don't get to discourgaged because that is one of our worst enemies to cheat. keep doing what you are doing and the wt. will come off. i wish you well -
my doctor uses a saucer as a measurment tool. put your cooked vegetables or salad on the bottom your 4 oz of Protein on top and work your way down. eat the protein first and vegetables second.

What happens after gastric band removal without additional bariatric surgery?
terrydumont46 replied to JACKIEO85's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
why are you having your lapband removed? -
speaking for myself. i was going to have gastric bypass because of my diabetes. but the doctor was unable to perform it due to adhesions and scar tissue. he gave me a lap band. the wt. loss is slow for me but for some the wt. comes right off. but my health has improved drastically. i am learning how to eat. and hopefully this willl be a forever wt. loss. and i enjoy my visits with my pa and doctor. they give me as much time as i need to discuss food, pain, exercise and develope a plan for the month. for 8 months we have developed a great relationship and i know they are on my side. the question about the hysterectomy is one best discussed with your doctor. your gyn and bariatric. good luck

i agree with it being okay to give your child a treat. but thistreat is causing you problems. can you come up with a different treat perhaps one that doesnt make you crave it. a 2 yo would likely be just as happy with mommy doing a happy dance(exercise) and a big gold star or something. my kid potty trained herself. my daughter just wanted to wear lacy panties. i had to have all things i crave removed from the house. my husband said he will buy what he wanted outside , some things i put in his man cave. for some reason food in there doesnt sneer at me. have you done a calorie count. does that chocolate kiss put you over the top? maybe you are still doing good even if you ate one or two. or best yet your child gets potty trained real fast

Frustrated doesn't begin to describe it...
terrydumont46 replied to pooky032281's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
what cheryl said is true. it's the amount of time your baby feeds will determine the amount of milk you put out. this is an excellent time for you to contact your doctor. have your band placement checked with a simple upper gi. it's fast and easy. once it has been checked than you and your doctor can determine how to proceed. you can eat enough healthy food to breast feed your baby and lose wt. all those exercise programs for mom and baby's would make you and baby feel great. don't be to discouraged. you don't know yet what the problem is. and i just don't know why whenever there is a post like yours we always get a band to sleeve person posting. no one talks about how many sleeve and bypass end up with a band on their stoma's. also you need to consider your insurance company. they may have restrictions on having the band removed. please call your doctor i don't want you to be this miserable when you may not have to be. -
Have stopped losing weight - any tips for plateaus...
terrydumont46 replied to intelirish's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i didn't keep my food log for about a month and i gained 3 lbs this last checkup. so my food log , scale, calorie, nutritional books are all back out on my counter. i thought i could do it without them and just get on with my life but hell no. so , keep a running log and make sure you list everything. most everything that goes in your mouth has calories. my doctor has me eating Protein -60 grams a day total carbs- 15-30 grams a meal fats---5grams a meal calories 1000-1200 a day being diabetic i already don't do sugar and i think i will not eat any carbs this month and see what happens. good luck -
Off limit foods ?
terrydumont46 replied to SecretBander's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i generally can eat anything except deli meats. or leftover Proteins. even if i put butter or gravy or mayo on it. these things tend to get stuck. but your doctor will have a list of no no's. and you will find your no no's as your band is adjusted. good luck on your surgery and make us one of your tools through your recovery period. and make sure your doctor is number 1 contact number. you will be needing it. -
IMPORTANT! Can I swollow pain meds whole?
terrydumont46 replied to Wendydarling19's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
after surgery and every fill i have to chew or crush all my medications just for a few days and i know that if one of them gets stuck pills quickly liquidfy and will proceed down the digestive tract. the only pills you cannot chew or crush is time release pills. otherwise ppl with the band just have to chew them. now most of the time i can just take my pills whole without a problem i am just talking about when i am likely a bit swollen after a fill. -
Post op bruising
terrydumont46 replied to cutlass6521's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am almost 8 mos out and i still get a fresh bruise on one of my incisions. my pcp says my blood work is good so he isn't worried about it. so i always put things on the back burner until they present themselves in a more sock in the face symptom. and it generally will. but your bruising is normal for being so soon after surgery. they will go away soon. if any of the bruising becomes swollen its time to contact your surgeon. you might have a hematoma. i wish for you a speedy recovery. -
does laying down in a mri machine count? or barium swallow and upper gi.? but as soon as i got home i walked my dogs the 21/2 acres and than crashed in my recliner for awhile. i hate the drive 2 hours away. and than i made 48 cupcakes for my grandaughters first birthday. they had to be special because it will be her first sweet food and she is severely allergic to eggs. so running around the kitchen, does that count as exercise?

Hi just found this site. 2 months post-op
terrydumont46 replied to CarmenLeAn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
until you reach your maxium fill you will be hungry. this is bandster hell. when you finally reach the green zone the place we call being at a perfect fill you won't feel so hungry between meals. not in green zone yet myself it takes a little while depending on your band size. but welcome tothe site. it will be a really helpful tool to your sucess. -
i was cut back to one red meat a week. but i can eat whatever i want to. just follow the rule of Protein first, vegetable second and carb lastly. with the fills i have i am just able to get down the protein and perhaps a salad. as far as steak goes which is my red meat of choice i only ate about 2 ounces the last time i had it. but my PA makes suggestions she doesnt say no . like my favorite snack is popcorn. i can eat it without a bit of problem so we worked out the amount and i bought a air popper and i can put on 2 tbls. of melted butter. but it is a occassional snack i save for football sunday. go hawks!

A little weight gain and freaking out
terrydumont46 replied to CarmenLeAn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i am on insulin and metaformin. this month i gained 3 lbs. i am horribly upset because i too follow all the rules. my doctor was unconcerned about the wt. gain. she said i have other things to worry about. tomorrow i am having 3 different tests. a barium swallow, a upper gi and a mri on my abdoman looking for the reasons i have a mass and that my gallbladder ducts are dialated. so i feel for you and i would imagine that any change in medication can cause a wt. gain. i think you will even out but keep a eye on your blood sugar for the next couple of weeks. it should stay below 120. good luck -

Signs that you're full. How does your body tell you it's enough?
terrydumont46 replied to desertpixie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
if i feel anything i know i did something stupid. and likely stuck a bit. i only make enough food that if i finish it , it is my alloted amount. now most of the time i never finish a meal. i suddenly just get the feeling that i am bored with the food. no longer want to eat slowly, or little bites, its just not worth my time. i than know i have had enough. and i get up with my plate and throw away the food left on my plate because from bad expierences i know one more bite and i will have pain coming up my sternum. my nose runs and i get hiccoughs. so that is the sign i look for. bored with food. -
today i hung blue, green and white christmas lights on my trees and bushes. celebrating my seahawks going to the superbowl. i have 21/2 acres so took a walk around it. my treadmill is causing my mass on my abd. to hurt not only the mass but it extends to my back. for some reason walking the yard doesn't hurt so much. went and got the mail and got the trashcan from street a football field from my front door. and i danced with my hubby. one slow dance in the living room. lovely.

the feelings to cheat are not going to go away even after surgery. you will be fighting and making choices for a new healthier you for the rest of your life. this is just one. drink more. make your own chicken broth so it taste good. eat sf Jello, have tea just keep yourself full on what you are allowed to have. don't skimp. when i was ever on liquids including the 2 days after fills i keep a large pot of chicken stock on the stove so i can just go in there and ladle a cup full. i made my own, but be sure to throw away or freeze the vegetables and chicken or it will be a temptation. i always throw food away so it is never again on my mind. good luck and i wish you hanging power.
