Cleared for regular diet 1 week after surgery
terrydumont46 replied to Wendydarling19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
this is fast paced but this is why we say to listen to your doctor first. my phases were in days not weeks. i think i was a bit more quicker than most i have read in here as well. at 1 week though i was just starting the mushie stage. fish, etc. so be careful and if you do have stuck issues just go backwards in your diet for at least a day. helps with the swelling. always test your stoma, band by doing a little bite and wait for a few min's to see if it makes it through okay. and than proceed to eat small, and slowly and throughly. good luck -
i was instructed too not to use straws. but the first thing the nurse brought me was a crystal light with a straw. lol. i use them at times. especially when i drink a iced coffee Protein drink. i don't drink with a meal so the air i might be taking in doesnt bother my volume

Need suggestions on Fills
terrydumont46 replied to hildebrant's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
i was banded in may 2013. i got my first fill in the middle of july. in july i had 3 cc put in and than a1 cc a month after . i have 8 cc now. still working on adjustments. but i think i'm pretty much there. everyone is different. some ppl don't need any fills just the band to lose wt. it is a very personal thing. and talking with your new doctor is the best thing you can do. -
BMI 38 they want 40. is that IT for me...am i DONE?
terrydumont46 replied to fancypants67's topic in Insurance & Financing
your doctor needs to fight for you a bit. not just submit your request for surgery. your pcp should be able to help out here too. he is the one that has been treating you for all the other weight related diseases. sometimes it takes a village to get what you know will be saving your life. good luck. be assertive. and make repeated phone calls to your doctor's and to your insurance company. they can tell you exactly what they expect -
congrat's. i always love your threads, and responses. i like your surgeon too!! ha. mine is like that too. you are a inspiration.

Sandy, i don't know the type of place you had your surgeon, but for your lapband to work properly you will be needing to see someone at least once a month to have little fills in your band. you get used to each fill until you are in what we call the green zone or sweet spot. a place that you can't eat more than a cup of food and stay satisfied for h4-5 hours between meals. when i was in the place you are now i swear i ate a 8 oz rib eye steak. i thought the band would stop me and it didn't. but now 2 oz would be pushing it for me. the real purpose of this time period in a successful bandster is to get used to eating a cup or less of food 3 meals a day. you will be hungry but believe me once your band starts to get adjusted you will be glad you measured your food and learned during what is called bandster hell. good luck to you and good luck making good choices. those videos that 2 much posted are really great videos. please be sure to watch them.

I think i hit green!
terrydumont46 replied to bluegudren's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had a fill on the 23rd and am still going back and forth from liquids, mushies and solids. i am not hungry either. my last fill before this one it took me several weeks before i got used to the restriction. having same problems with this fill. but after a couple of weeks i sorta get used to it and the hunger comes back. good for you for achieving that sweet spot. -
Just got banded today, and in so much pain!
terrydumont46 replied to Cat225's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
terry's post op orders. please make sure your surgeon recommends also 1. take your pain med's. they are there for you to take. if you need more call the pharmacy , they will call your doctor for you. or call your doctor if you are on a narcotic like percocet. 2. move even if you are in your recliner or bed. turn side to side. walk to the kitchen and back. 3. use a heating pad to your shoulder 4. use ice packs for incisional pain 5. drink a lot of fluids, broth and tea. warm tea helps a lot 6. sit upright and take deep breaths, do some short deep coughs 7.. ibuprohen over tylenol seems to be the ppl's choice 8. always keep in mind. fevers over 100.9, increased swelling, redness and drainage from your incisional sites not normal call your doctor right away 9. and just rest and give yourself some time to heal. in the day you would have been still in the hospital on iv pain meds. you are home doing your own recovering. so don't be to hard on yourself. good luck and i pray you get through this part of post op quickly. -
i don't think you would have started this topic unless you wanted to start over. 210 pounds is still over weight. my vote. get the band replaced and start the program all over again. start getting fills, and correct your diet. and come back here and let us know how you are doing. good luck as you make this decision for yourself. but i think you already know what you want to do.

Is this a good idea?
terrydumont46 replied to vincereautmori's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my husband was very much involved at first. he learned about all 3 surgeries so together we decided on which surgery. he helped keep me on track pre surgery since it took over 2 years to complete all my doctor rounds. trouble seems to follow me. he never found out how much i weighed though. i don't want him to know. i still don't even though he isnt a dumb man so he can guess it. but because he knows the lengths i will go to to stop him from knowing we don't talk about wt. loss. but he does help me when i am eating. like telling me to slow down, or smaller bites etc. so having your spouse educated is a excellent idea. good luck -
not only does it stretch your pouch but our pouch is so little to begin with and our job is to put in healthy high Protein food not empty calorie stuff. i can see where once in awhile a person might want to do it but there are so many other things to drink. find something you like and drink it instead.

i am having a preop checkup tomorrow after having a MRI that was showing my gallbladder in pretty bad shape from previous attacks. i so agree with you about having right sided pain checked out. i think i passed a pretty big stone sept. 2011. i remember that date because i was already in the hospital for my heart but they were giving me pain medication for pain in my right side. all the tests for my heart required me to be on all those crazy little tables turning this way and that way. i remember crying out in pain. over the years i had pain there and my doctor did a abd. ultrasound but it was negative for stones. so i lived with the pain until now. i can't exercise because of it. the pain goes right through my body front to back. i have a swelling or mass above my port. it hurts my back when it is press . so... i am having my gallbladder removed and praying the back pain will no longer be there. It would be such a relief. thank you for posting. i needed to read your story.

your band is sutured to muscle it takes more than a stuck issue. but if the pain is where you say it is , it could be your gallbladder. please call your pcp or surgeon to report this. it likely is nothing to worry about. we are all worried about things because we are mind centered on our bodies right now.

Vasovagal Syncope ( Fainting ) episode
terrydumont46 replied to catfish87's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i would think in your case a halter monitor would be advise. most of the time after the event has happened all vital signs and heart go back to normal. because it is happening a bit more frequently its time to have all the tests. i have cardiac arrythmias. i go into atrial fib and than v tach and than my heart stops. i have had 3 episodes so far. but after the episode is over all my vital signs are normal. so make sure your pcp just does the tests to clear you. there maybe nothing you can do about it. except be more careful standing up. always sit at the side of your chair or bed a few min's first than stand up. take care i hope they find out what is wrong with you -
my doctor called today and informed me that i will be needing my gallbladder removed. they are also going to check out a mass i have in my abdoman near my port .i have been having pain in my back and the port area since lapband surgery. the question i have is. are they going to have to empty my band for surgery. they didn't when i broke my arm and had to be put under for surgery. but i am glad to have this done. i haven't been able to exercise with the back pain. i so hope the surgery will help my back. any info would be appreciated

Ovulation time -can't eat, green zone issue!?
terrydumont46 replied to MandyJ's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
my doctor said that if i am swelling to change my 3 meals to 5 small meals a day. if you can eat chocolate and ice cream you can go back to healthy liquids or mushies during you TOM. if your tom is lasting 2 weeks than may i suggest you see your GYN. periods shouldn't last that long. there are teas like parsley tea that helps with swelling. watch your sodium intake . talk with your doctor for suggestions to help you. you don't want to undo what you have worked so hard to do. -
Almost 7 years post op - gained half back. Recommiting
terrydumont46 replied to loridee11's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
of course you will have your band adjusted. but do it really slowly so you get used to each fill. take medication for heartburn. prilosec or something your doctor will prescribe. don't eat or drink after 7 at night. you know what to do. just take a deep breath and start in the morning. eat healthy until you see your doctor and nutritionalist. you are starting over so start at the beginning. I wish you lots of luck. also a upper gi is not out of question. so many ppl suffer from what you said you did and their band isn't in the right position. -
head hunger is really a hard thing to combat. even when your band is getting filled. your band will only do so much. have good Protein bars or Snacks that are less than 110 calories. make them chocolate if you need to. have a banana and Peanut Butter. STAY AWAY FROM THE VENDING MACHINE! and dunkin donuts. even when you reach the green zone you will have to deal with head hunger. you have to decide now that it is more important to control your brain than to have it control you. only some ppl have complete non eating issues with hunger, in fact i only know of one on this site. baking chocolate is only 1/2 the sugar as regular chocolate. melted with some nuts for protein and a piece or 2 of that will be better for you than a snicker bar, my favorite candy bar by the way.which is full of butter fat and sugar. have cottage cheese with fruit or tomatoes. have a greek yogurt. have a smoothie. watch how much you drink of the smoothie. satisfy your hunger but be creative and keep it as healthy as you can. enjoy your foods but a snack should only be 110 and less twice a day. eat more protein at your meal times. add a bit of fat to your meals to help keep you satisfied afterwards. i can only type this because i deal with hunger too! gained 3 lbs last month. so even though i am getting close to the green zone i still deal with hunger. but i have made a vow that i will win this battle. you need to say that to yourself too.

Got an appt next week with surgeon to remove band
terrydumont46 replied to donna12's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
i hope they won't have to remove your band. i have heard from a few ppl that wt. loss is the best thing for lupus and fibromyalgia. i hope that they see your post and offer their advice and knowledge. it's horrible what you are going through. please feel better soon. and i pray that whatever treatment the doctors feel is right for you works. -
please be careful of all the Water you are drinking. you can become toxic with water which means you can wash out all your water soluable Vitamins, like potassium, sodium, b''s and c's. there is such a thing called to much. i think most doctors recommend 64 oz a day. but do check with your doctor. but good job on working hard at losing the wt.

open your mind to all liquids you can eat or fix. everytime you get a fill you will be back on that liquid diet. boo! when i go for a fill i get a chicen soup started. i drink the broth while on liquids and than pulverize for mushie part of fill recovery. drink plenty of fluids. my favorite is crystal lite. i make 2 quarts in the morning. i alternate good old Water with crystal lite. but if i finish the 2 quarts i know i did well. also drink, tea, coffee, sf koolaid apple juice etc. on the liquid part of your diet. fruit juice isn't recommended after wards to many calories. and sugar. well good luck it sounds like you are on the right track

Anyone else have hiatal hernia 7 months after Lap Band?
terrydumont46 replied to nikkidcas's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
hernias and gallbladder disease are all common to all the weight loss surgeries. most of the time the hernia's don't cause many problems but they can. i am going through gallbladder mri's and scannings right now. ask your doctor what his/her plans are.
