  1. my doctor told me that when a 14cc band is inserted a lot of doctors prim it with 3-4cc. he did not for me. he likes his patients to move slowly down the road and to be able to get used to it. I now have 8.5 cc in a 14cc band. I believe this is it for me. but in a month usually a person swelling is gone from the fill and can judge than. but I lost 8 lbs this month all total and I think I am there. but your own doctor will have their own questions to judge when they will do fill or not. good luck.

Not ready for mushy foods yet

I agree with the amount every 4hrs. the food will pass through your pouch in about 20 min's if it hasn't you have eaten more than your pouch can handle. you can still be having pain from surgery. it is really early in your recovery. my suggestion is to back off just a bit in the amount although I don't think the pain you are describing has anything do with your food. perhaps keep your intake at a 1/2cup for now and see if it helps. use a heating pad for the pain. don't forget to use pain medication as well. while you are under during surgery they could be moving you around a bit and make some muscles sore. if the pain increases and /or you start running a fever call your doctor. that is what they are there for. my doctor was so sweet today. when I told her I thought I was filled enough she told me that I can come in anytime just to talk about whatever. it doesn't have to be for a fill. so use your doctor, most of them just want to help you. good luck on a speedy recovery. I hope you feel better soon.

    Antacids

no I have never used them during a stuck episode. the antiacids would just add to the volume in your pouch. but if you are having indigestion they are okay to use. but, every doctor will have a choice of what to use. I am on Prilosec and can take tums when I need to. but they will not help when stuck.

    Banded and have a question.....

diabetis can cause thrush too. in fact that was how i was diagnosed. but in this case i would assume you are a little bit dehydrated. but it is something you should let your doctor know about.

    Stretching pouch with liquids?

i don't think you can stretch your pouch with liquids. the only problem i can see is if you gulp and have more than a cup of liquid and try and push more in its all just going to come right back up, sorta like what a baby does when it spits up. your pouch empties pretty fast through the band. just try and not gulp liquids.

Eat more fish to live longer?

i am getting tired of red meats as well. they are just to tiring to eat. but i am having a bit of trouble with fish like cod. if its thick i am having the same trouble with it as i do red meat.

    Banded Feb 7th!

your family is trying to be supportive. my family was the same way and finally we just don't talk about it anymore. i like it that way. my hubby just reminds me to slow down. that is his contribution to my weight loss. and i do need to be reminded. as time goes by your family will get used to the new you and your new eating habits.

    Anyone still not hungry?

some ppl only needs the band to give them enough restriction to eat smaller and be satisfied. that is what is so nice about having a band. you don't need to have fills if this is working for you if it begins to not work than you have it adjusted. wonderful for us.

Fighting your food! Getting tired of it?

i am having the same thoughts as you are. i am not having a pleasant time at mealtime and am just wishing that i never get hungry again. but because i know i need food i keep trying and i keep doing all the right things. except how i feel about this whole dang thing is when something like this happens i ate dinner. had bbq chicken, i ate without getting stuck. yeah! soon after dinner i had a headache and took some medication that made me fall asleep. i was in my recliner so was not laying down. around 8 i awoke and knew i needed a Protein drink to get my protein in. i wasn't feeling anything abnormal from my pouch or band. i drank my Protein Drink sorta fast but wasn't gulping. and than i felt it ,knew it wasnt going through the band. i drank enough that i figured it would finally push through , well it didn't and it came up and before i could grab the trashcan it was all over the floor my slippers and clothes. my dog even ran from the room. poor thing. i didn't do anything wrong, oh but maybe i did. i took my headache pill and didn't make sure it went down. you would have figured that it would have moved on it's own or at least melted but i take pills with a small amt of Water so it won't get stuck. ha i just hate it when this happens. well on the plus side i did finish my protein drink and i didn't get the hunger night demons. no appetite at all. i am learning but man it can be painful.
  10. once you contact your insurance company with a written letter . cc a copy to your insurance commissioner. the insurance company might be doing something illegal and they really hate it when the insurance commissioner gets involved in cases. it won't hurt.

    Fluids with meals

did you talk to your surgeon or the receptionists. i noticed that resposes are different for each wls and since they deal with all of them you may havegiven you the wrong info. i would think the best response would have been to drink more of the liquids that have some Protein in them like, stock or broth, Protein drinks, creamed Soups, refried Beans, yogurt there are just to many foods that are healthy and loaded with protein that will help with your hunger. you are in bandster hell right now. you need to diet because your band isn't adjusted. but to suggest that drinking a lot of Water to fill you up won't work. you are a month out and can have plenty of different foods to help with that hunger. and between meals drink the Fluid. i disagree with your doctor on this one. but of course you have to do as your doctor suggest. perhaps you need a clarification on this one. let's be realistic here. will water really help with your hunger. it will just push the food that will help through to fast. and it may cause a pb. write another email. and talk about this.

Is there any foods that you totally miss?

what i want and miss is a big fat hamburger. and a fish sandwich from mcdonalds. right now really having trouble with breads. so missing them in my diet. i just had to throw out a loaf of 45 cal . bread because of mold. i want a pastrami dip from the pit in el monte california. i haven't even been to california for nearly 20 years. and the outback steak house. I WANT CHEESY FRIES,i am dreaming about them now. i might just go and eat a few just to get it out of my mind. my band will take care of the amount i'm sure. or my hubby will. perhaps for valentines day.

    Food(s) you thought you loved...

i also take a lot of pills, about 18 alone in the morning. i found if i take them with just a little swallow of Water and wait the water liquidfies the pills so they go through the band. if i swallow to much water the pills get stuck. i found this out through trail and lots of errors. i found that maxalt is a wonderful headache reliever. i take it when my headache gets to a 6-7 on the pain scale. i have also called my pcp on some of my pills to ask for a smaller version of the same acting pill. everytime i have asked i have gotten something different. this has helped alot. all this trouble also started with my last fill in jan. the other thing i do for my pain med's, during the day and my xanax is i just chew them into a paste and swallow with a drink. this also helps and i haven't been stuck since doing this. i have also taken some of my morning pills and split them with my nightime pills so i don't have as many in the morning. you are going to have to be creative. this is where my surgeon wasn't of any help. but my pcp is and also my pharmasist. i am on a first name basis with him and will call and ask him what i can do. like with prilosec prescription strength but it is in a capsule. he was able to advice me that even i time released capsules that is is okay to take capsule apart and swallow all the little beads just don't chew them. ask your doctor about maxalt. i swear by it for a headache. i wish you well. and hope i have helped in a small way. I'm having a hard time since my fill in jan.2014. First one. I was banded in aug 2013. My problem is that I am pbing almost at every meal but onky the 2-3 bites in then afterwards I can finish eating with no problem. Then there's the 4-5x a day I have to take the 6 pills each time. Since fill I take pills after I eat about 30 min. I get them down they fill stuck in my throat...have heartburn type feeling with alot of pressure and I get a horrible headache. Now I get chronic headaches always have and I've never had a problem until banding and worse since 3 cc fill. Maybe my throat is too tight before eating and what do you think I should do and the pills? I have to take them about 33 in all and it takes about 2 hours after taking pills and feeling horrible putting ice on my neck and head before it lets up. By then it's usually time to eat again or take pills again. See its round robin. I am willing to do this and keep on going but just need some advice on how to handle. I see my lapband dr next wednesday and a letter to him outlining just what I've said. But need my buddies opinions too. Thx

    Banded :)

congrat's on your band. besides walking, a heating pad to the shoulder will help. also sleep on the side of the pain. usually the left side. or if in a recliner type chair turn to the left side. this might help with gas pain. keep us informed as you get into each phase of this journey. we want to help. quick recovery to you

    Struggling

getting stuck regularly is not good. my doctor indicates up to 3 stuck issues a month is normal. okay now my suggestion. you may not be filled to the amount you need to be to be satisfied. what you need to do is really concentrate on eating tiny, eating slowly, eating smaller and see if you can stop the stuck issue. if you can do this and go a few weeks without getting stuck than you can get another fill. our stuck issues is generally our own doing not the restriction of the band. close your eyes when you are eating and imagine the food as it takes its trip down your esaphagus and into your pouch and than the seconds it takes to go through the band. and than take another bite of food. i make the mistake of filling my pouch and thinking i am stuck because of a full pouch that takes 20 min's to empty. just try this with 1 meal that generally causes you to be stuck. i am learning a whole new word , patience. i want to eat mouth full after mouth full . even though i make it small i eat to quickly for my band. now with all of my posts discuss this with your doctor , they know what a normal amount of fill the different size bands generally will cause the green zone. set a timer, someone uses a egg timer to count bites of food. try that. good luck
  16. i think your way of thinking is the correct one. my doctor wants me to wear a ring , any ring so it will let me know if i am having swelling. apparently our hands swell first with TOM, or me cardiac edema. if the ring is tight , her theory is the band maybe tight and to eat as one would if just filled. as long as you are getting some fluids down i would first call your doctor office to let them know what is going on and get some advice from them and, second to continue to do what you are doing, sipping fluids and trying mushies like yogurt, and cream soups, refried Beans etc. good luck i hope it works out

Equipment failure at the gym ;)

i was wearing a sports bra the other day when i noticed the bottom of my bra was sitting on top of my chest. i could see the material when i looked down my top. i just turned to my hubby and adjusted the bra and the first bathroom i came to i took the sucker off. it's cold here and we are layered so no one would notice anyways. lol

    Check out my blog

it seems like i lose nothing 1 month and than 6 pounds the next month . but i have been measuring myself since jan. 13 i have lost a total all over inches of 10 inches. thats less than a month. okay a few days shy but still. and i had gallbladder surgery so my tummy is still a bit bloated. i think i like the measuring instead of weighing. liked your blog

Has anyone had a SMALL leak?

i would ask this doctor what he planned to do about the leak. it's pretty easy to determine if there is a leak. ask him to withdraw the Fluid from your band. it should match up to your medical records. if the measurements are the same it sounds like you need a good fill. be assertive. i don't know where you are at on fills or what size band you have but you do , so you should know where you would like to be at this point. i have a 14cc band and have 8 cc of fluid. this is being pretty restrictive for me but my doctor said that between 8 and 91/2 is pretty normal for a 14 cc band. good luck make the appt now.
  20. your gp makes the referral but your bariatric surgeon will have you jump through a few more hoops. they all do. they want to make sure you are healthy enough to under go surgery, they want you to meet a dietician or nutritionalist and at the very least have a psych evaluation. most of us also had to do a sleep apnea study. i also have diabetits, hypertensive, cardiac arrythmias, just to list a few. so don't get your hopes up or be bummed out when you are thrown all of this. it is normal. just take a deep breath and do the check lists. good luck and i hope your husband will be able to join you on this journey. that would be really cool.

    Im scared

keep this in the back of your mind as you are fulfilling all the requirements for surgery. everyone you come in contact with, your doctor, nutritionalist, psyhchologists, sleep apnea doctor etc. all want you to have this surgery and are on your side. they all recongnize that you are making the most important decision in your life that is hard to do. God is with you. And never leaves you. remember that. good luck
