    Feeling dumb

don't have to make yourself throw up. when the sliming occurs you can pretty much bet on the ranch that you will pb. not throw up. throw up comes from your stomach. pb comes from your pouch. if you are having a stuck issue the slim and pb is a pretty good way for the band to get rid of whatever is plugging you up. this is why eating slowly, itty bitty, and chew well is so important. it is not good to pb or slime. bandsters do not want to do this with meals. so really try and not to cause this to happen. take your time with food. I know I rush that very first bite and so often am pb'ing before I know it. scares the heck out of my dog. so I take 1 bite and count to 10 before I take another. this way I know the food has made it through the band.

    Chronic Indigestion Need help!

with sarah posting the same problem I just wonder if there isn't a virus going around. see your doctor and get some med's for it. you need to eat for your baby if you are breast feeding. so don't need indigestion complicating things. wish you well. and congrat's on the baby.
  4. Carafate is great. but the purpose of it is to help if you have a ulcer. it fills in where the ulcer is and helps protect your ulcer from acid. good you are seeing your doctor. I hope its'something easy to treat. good luck and let us know

    Hungry

yes to your question. I have to ask myself all the time, are you really hungry or is it brain hunger? most of the time it's brain hunger. especially at night time. I have a super hard time when the sun goes down. but at least my band won't let me eat a whole bag of chips, or half gallon of ice cream. but I won't lose wt either if I keep putting my grubby little hands in the likes of above. I am unable to exercise right now and I used to do that when that unwanted hunger used to hit. I have no simple help here. it's all up to you and what you chose to do instead of eating. exercise, take a bath, read, computer games, talk on phone. make a healthy shake have a protein bar. a cup of hot coffee or tea. get your yard ready for spring. I don't have the excuse of to cold or snow this year. good luck

    First Official PB

my poor dog is so traumatized when I have a stuck issue. all my trashcans have liners now. but that poor dog. when the burping starts he is already on the run. I have to give him the all clear sign. he witnessed a real bad stuck issue in which I looked like the exorcist. he doesn't want to see mommy do this again. I did a pb in the car once. I used the trash bag in there. I told my hubby about it and he wanted to know if I pulled over, no phishhhhh! I can pb and drive for petes sakes. so glad I am not getting stuck as much anymore, but it still happens even if I am eating properly.
  8. my husband is of normal weight and can eat just about anything. if anything has happened because of my wls is that I might be making him fat. I am a cook. I love chopping, slicing and dicing. I love to explore and make up recipes. when I am in that mood and am hungry he gets my cooking full board. he isn't a big eater, skinny ppl aren't so when I bring him a platter of food to eat since I can't eat it he just laughs at me. poor dear, he tries so I would feel satisfied of cooking a good meal.

    Medications and LAP BAND

I am bi-polar and have anxiety disorder. I am on 6 different psych drugs a total of 16 1/2 pills a day just for this disorder. I asked my psychiatrist when I had my psych evaluation can I crush or chew my pills not a problem he said. none of my pills are time released. I also asked if, as I lose wt. will I be needing to lower my dosage. no he said. I purchased a pill crusher and used it in the beginning but don't need to anymore. besides those pills I also take 21 additional pills. sometimes when my band is tight I crush my pills or chew them. if everything is normal I will take with just a little water. I let the water melt the pills in my pouch. But I have changed pills to smaller ones and got away from time released pills so I have the option to chew them. good luck. this is a valid question to take to whoever issued the prescription.

    Banded 2-14-14

yes to your question sysnowden. even now I can hear my stomach digest my food. I can also feel when the food goes from the pouch to stomach. I love that pop type feeling that I can hear. I know after that my food is going to not get stuck. if you have just eaten and you have the hunger type sounds and feelings drink fluids. that should help stop any sounds coming from your stomach.

    BAD Headaches lately...

I am also headache prone. I measure my headaches on the 1-10 scale. when the headaches are below 7 I use tramadol 50 mg. its a non narcotic pain reliever, and a ice pack to the neck. if the headache reaches a 7 and higher I have to take maxalt. with that I add hydrocodone 5mg. I also use a ice pack to the neck. a cup of coffee for the caffeine helps to. most headaches are stress related. of course checking with your primary care doctor is a must. I have had a mri to make sure nothing is going on up there, my husband said he could have saved us a buck for that one. ha. funny guy. but I feel for you. besides feeling nausea a headache is my worst nightmare. so if I am being drastic I apologize. wishing you well. please talk to your doctor, there are many things you can do.

    Camping Food

now this is a first for me. what would I do. I would take hamburger and chicken and buy some fish like trout. trout has a lot of fat so goes down easily. I would also take a few potatoes. bake them in the fire. they will also go down easily, especially if you bring a cube of butter. bring lots of foil and make little meals at home into packages. like the hamburger with cubes of potatoes and sliced carrots or frozen peas. wrap it up like a present put in a freezer bag. the chicken season well with lemon pepper, add some cubed up root vegetables, like squash, carrots, celery, add a bit of olive oil and wrap. don't forget the salt and pepper and if you like things spicy add those to your package too. with the trout I would use olive oil and rub the outside of it, salt and pepper and add potatoes to it as well. for breakfast oatmeal or a protein shake. although the shake won't keep you from getting hungry. but for the oatmeal add powder milk to the oatmeal so all it needs is water. lunch can be a soup with meat and vege. l love chicken and dumpling soup. don't forget protein bars and try and remember what your friends might be snacking on. and duplicate with a healthy choice. we can eat baked chips with refried beans. the bean dip isn't bad when it comes to calories. and remember low fat cheese. I think I am hungry is why this is so long. perhaps you can talk your friends into making spaghetti one night. if you can't eat pasta the sauce would taste real good. and canned chili is on our list too. make sure it has a pop top for easy opening. crystal light, lots of water and you are set. have a great time on your trip. I would love to go somewhere right now. little jealous here.

    Extreme gas one year post-op

please let your doctor know this so you can be referred to a gastroenterolist. it sounds like you might have irritable bowel syndrome. the only way to find out is to have a lower gi . go to your pcp. I don't think this is a band issue. good luck
  14. since this last fill I also noticed that if I can prim my digestive tract I can enjoy food without getting stuck. even if I just eat one little tiny bite of food and wait 10 min's or so the rest of my meal will go down without trouble. but if I try and take mouthful followed by another I will get stuck. you wrote your post so well. I smiled because you are me. so if there is 2 of us. there are more.

    Psych Evaluation

sweetie, that was a big left out. you cannot be bulimic and have any wls. vomiting will cause you severe injury. you need your bulimia in check before any of the wls. I am ss. I know your thought is if I can lose wt.i won't have this eating disorder but so much of what we do is mental. we struggle every day with the mental aspects of being overweight. I am not sure what your psych eval. is going to do. please don't hide this from the psychologists especially if you are seeking a lapband.i wish you a whole lot of luck.

    Is it fair...

I don't think so either. in fact we have gone the extra mile for our weight loss. do you feel as if you didn't fight for every ounce you have lost. did you not change your eating habits to a more healthy way. didn't your whole lifestyle become more health conscious. and you don't need to tell anyone either. you have followed the guidelines. good luck

Doesn't She Need A Wig Cap?

I had the same thing happen when my mom died. my brother was just trying to be helpful to me in a big brother caring way, so when we were picking out her clothes he picked out the shoes. asking if they matched the dress. I also put my head down and waited for him to catch up. he finally did and even though it's only been since nov. I chuckle over the look on his face.

    Fill

I don'.t I have a 14 cc band and this fill was .5 cc the smallest one I ever had. I have 8.5cc in my band now and am still getting used to the restriction from my last fill on friday. I get frustrated when the food doesn't go down and happy happy when I eat properly and the right amount and have no problems. good luck to you.
  20. the port is generally behind the largest of your incisions. if any of you do get some gas pain you can feel it just about anywhere, lay on your left side this helps the most. I wish all of you speedy recoveries and I want to welcome you all to bandster world.

    Saline Removal

simple diet for us bandster. protein first about 3-4 oz. vegetable second if you are still hungry, and if you really need it a carb. you want to keep your meals at 3time a day about a cup or less per meal. be creative with your meals so you don't get bored. use your spices etc. to make meat or your choice of protein have flavor. if I was in your boots I might start off doing 24 hours of liquids, and than graduate through the phases we have to do. good luck. I was wondering what size band do you have? and why were you able to eat so much without being in pain? I know if I eat more than my pouch allows it causes me pain and not just a little pain. I wish you lots of luck.

    Hair

anytime you cause stress on your body it seems as if the hair takes a beating. I started taking biotin and I changed shampoos. and not to the expensive stuff. my hubby bought suave moraccan shiny formula to put in my Christmas stocking. I love it. it made my hair shiny and healthy looking even if it was falling out. I am 8 mos out and my hair has stopped falling out now. so keep up your protein and add biotin.

    Psych Evaluation

I would say most pass their psych evaluations. and if you don't don't despair. everyone on your team wants you to succeed with lapband surgery and this is just one of the steps to do. medicare covers the surgery. medicare covers anything having to do with wls. some states are not approved for sleeve yet with medicare. I have medicare. I even had to stay in the hospital for almost 3 days. my share of the whole hospital bill was just over 1000.00. so if you stay just the right amount time your share will be even less. please just take a deep breath. you are going through what we all had to go through. you will end up on the other side with a date for surgery. good luck

    Stuck episode

I always test my band with sips of fluid before I try solids after a stuck episode. my doctor wants liquids for at least 24 hours after a bad episode. I would start out with liquids and slowly graduate up. you do not want to get stuck again today. that would likely cause a problem.
