I was banded this morning! 3-6-14
terrydumont46 replied to fghtffyrdmns's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
just be sure you are sipping not gulping. but drinking plenty of liquids is good. don't be surprised if your stoma becomes a little bit swollen. that will slow down the amount of liquid able to go through your band. but drink. you need it and might be just a bit dehydrated. when you get home watch the fruit juice, lots of calories and sugar. switch to crystal light or something like that to quench your thirst. I too loved fluids. and it only benefits me today. good luck on a quick and swift recovery. sounds like you are off to a good start. -
I am 9 mos out and just now am in the green zone, and still adjusting to the restriction. even while waiting until I got to the green zone I continued to lose wt. not as much as I would have liked but I still lost. and the inches really came off. the part about listening to your band is so true. just the other day my husband and I had a really busy day and elected to go to arby's for a sandwich. my used to be most favorite sandwich ever. well we were driving while eating I had only 2 bites of the sandwich when my brain just said don't take another bite. I had to reassure my husband first that I wasn't stuck just something telling me no more. that is the silent signal that to many ignore. I was satisfied with those two bites until dinner. it's hard when there is a perfectly great dinner or lunch before you and its healthy and portioned correctly but your brain and band has other ideas. it is hard to leave a plate full of food.

Does it hurt when ....
terrydumont46 replied to sleepingarby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it is the doctor's decision. all doctor's are different. some are conservative and some are more aggressive. it also depends on the size of your band. it is harder but better to be on the conservative side. this gives you a chance on learning and getting used to your new size in the band without having to go in and have a unfill. good luck I wanted to add that my fills did not hurt one bit. -
most doctors will say no to alcohol. I have to advise you to ask your doctor if you can have at least one drink for your 21st. I would recommend whatever drink you want but one that doesn't have carbonation. happy birthday to you.

What do you want to do most when you reach goal?
terrydumont46 replied to Skywalker's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I want to go to a full service spa. and get my whole body scrubbed, waxed and tenderized. once I do that I am going to a water park and actually go down the slides. and than my final wanna do is magic mountain in southern California. I want to ride a roller coaster there again. -
I wouldn't be able to live without my coffee. I even get the click espresso coffee protein mix. but I only drink 2 mugs of coffee in the morning and rarely have to have the protein drink. when It warms up I will love it iced.

I think this warrents a check by a doctor. if it is your appendix and it ruptures your hospital bill will be a whole lot worse. see the doctor and worry about payment after.

Protein / protein drinks?
terrydumont46 replied to nolookinback's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
look for Protein drinks that have at least 20 grams and 100 calories for the drink. some have higher protein grams but they also have higher calories. go to amazon and check out what is there. all sorts of Protein Drinks. there is also a bariatric surgery site you can buy all you need from. amazon is just cheaper. ppl say that the protein premier from costco is good as well. -
yes. that's why the lapband can be the best. it's adjustable for the rest of our lives.

Bummer...insulin resistance anyone?
terrydumont46 replied to deleteme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was insulin resistant before the lapband. but now that I have lost a little wt. the insulin is working. I have gone from 200 units of lantus and a bs of 250plus to 20 units of lantus at night only. what I believe they are trying to tell you is that your insulin your body creates to move blood sugar or glucose into the cell isn't working right. to me that means you are diabetic. oral medications is usually the first medication given. also metformin is good for stopping the liver in producing blood sugar. -
I had a fill on 2/24/2014. I am still going back and forth from liquids, mushies and solid. I am sticking with this because I can eat solids without issues at times. but sometimes I can't. I think all the time it would just be easier if I get some fluid removed. but I got this band to do a job I wasn't able to do. control my eating. as long as I am keeping myself hydrated and can take my supplements I will be patient and not worry so much. I do get angry and frustrated but not worry. I wish you luck on the decision you finally make.

please help! need caloric intake
terrydumont46 replied to starfish n coffee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have a problem with calories after I did a log of what I was eating. most protein shakes have 100cal or more. some of the ones with the most proteins can get to 180 calories. I was mixing my protein with fat free milk, so my protein and milk equaled 210 calories a pop. I was very surprised.it sounds like you are to the mushie stage. add healthy choice cream soups, refried beans and a few baked corn chips, add some low fat cheese and microwave. chili. it was one of my most favorites during this phase. yogurt, make it greek like lite and fit. low fat cottage cheese, hummus, one egg is 70 calories so eat a couple of eggs, add some hot sauce to them orlow fat cheese. good luck. -
my insurance didn't require wt. loss but my doctor did. 5% of my body wt. every doctor, every insurance all have their lists of to do's. cut out carb. that's the easiest way to lose wt. count every calorie. calorie in and calorie out in the form of exercise. it needs to be a negative number. good luck.

Banded 2/24 and have questions!
terrydumont46 replied to Mysticangel142003's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
several ppl have had to go back to work quickly. their pain problem was the up and down and pain caused by the port moving around. we have suggested a abd. binder or back brace turned backwards to hold and protect your abdomen. you are going through hell but we have all been there. drink more liquids. you can drink as much as you need. I made homemade stock and dipped into it all day long. sugar free jello, tea coffee, popsicles, call your doctor for a list of liquids he allows. I wish you luck through this phase. it will pass. -

2nd week post band
terrydumont46 replied to LyceeB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
there really isn't anything you can do. there isn't any magic potion. age is a changer though. younger you are the more elastic your skin is. keep your skin hydrated inside and out is my best advice. -
again please call your doctor. there are medications that will help with the nausea, ondanstetron for one. and getting on Prilosec, or Pepcid might help you to not have a recurrence. you don't want to throw up from your stomach. not good for the band. so you need some help from your surgeon. good luck

that little pouch gets smaller but it is an area I plan on getting plastic surgery on. I see to many women in my wls place that look wonderful except for that little pouch. so besides my right upper arm that pouch is going to get fix.

Calorie Counting During Blended Stage?
terrydumont46 replied to BandedBrunette481's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I will give you what my PA gave me to follow. calories per meal- 300-400 cal. protein20 grams per meal.or up to 80 a day.total carbs -15-30 per meal(remember you subtract Fiber from total carb total.. fats 5gr. per meal. I found everything easy to follow except the fat amount. a piece of Protein usually has more than that so as long as my calorie intake was below the 400 I was ok with it. now this is the amounts while your band is being adjusted. as you get close to green some of these just don't happen. or are very hard to achieve. so I found that in the morning my band is tight that a vegetable smoothie with protein added like greek yogurt or tofu or Protein powder helps me through Breakfast. I hope this helps -

Fiber choice chewabled anyone?
terrydumont46 replied to happyloser13's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had a feeling Cheryl was going to have a say in this one. I don't take Fiber. if I become irregular I will take miralax and night and if that doesn't work and than I will take 2 dulcolax the next night. tonight I drank a 4 oz drink of warm prune juice; it just has so much sugar and will make my bs whacky. so don't make a practice of it. -
I have a sluggish thyroid. my tsh are low normal. my pcp feels that I already take enough pills so won't add thyroid medication. any suggestions on how to amp my thyroid without medication. perhaps a supplement, or food product?
